Jason Taylor's Christmas Present...

If Jason Taylor is the coach next year I'm not supporting them. Simple as that.

And Jason Taylor will be the coach next year because they punted Farah.

Don't go mate, stay true.

Baring some massive revelation he is going to be there, 2018 and on is what we are discussing.

The 'big four' players shouldn't all be considered in the same way. Fundamentally, the days of getting either Woods or Tedesco for a bargain price are in the past: they are both established representative players with reputations, who will be able to command full market value. Perhaps either or both will offer the Tigers some sort of home-club discount, but realistically they'll cost full whack. Hopefully the club will be able to make sensible decisions about retention within a cap: there isn't a player in the game who's worth so much of your cap room that you can't surround them with a suitable supporting cast.

Brooks and to a (slightly) lesser extent Moses will still be paid to some extent for potential in all likelihood. Brooks hasn't yet lived up to expectations and while Moses has shown more he certainly hasn't demonstrated the ability to consistently deliver or to deliver when it matters most. And actually it's these two where the Tigers have an opportunity to either grab an advantage or tie themselves to another Sironen-type millstone.

There's no point waiting for Brooks to deliver before offering him a contract. If he has a great first half of 2017, guess what: the price just went up. Moses' already has. The club fundamentally has to come to its own judgement based on its own assessment of the halves talent, and try to get ahead of the competition (and market value) by locking in the players it wants to keep before their value soars. If they really believe Brooks is just coming on slowly, get him signed up as soon as possible. If they're right, great - a bargain. If they're wrong, well, sack the talent assessors and start again. But if the plan is to build from within it cannot work by waiting for players to reach their full potential and hope they show 'loyalty'.

Quoting myself, but hey…

I see Moylan and Cartwright have just re-signed for Penrith until the end of 2021\. This is why the Panthers are succeeding with the building from within approach and the Tigers - so far - are not. They identify the players they want to build round and move to lock them up long term. It's easy to say Moylan and Cartwright are pretty obvious signs, but Cartwright still has a lot to do on his defence and consistency. However, the Panthers clearly think he's going to get there and they're backing their judgement. There's none of this 'wait to see if he starts next year well' or player options or whatnot.

You are so easily pleased…can you tell me who will come 5th in Randwick race 7 on the weekend please? People who support mediocrity tend to know the answers to questions like this.

THIS
Backs up my comments.

You think we had a "reasonable" year we'll be "stable" for the next few and that'll do you. You are the sort who bores his friends to death still talking about 2005\. I bet you have your kid's 7th placed ribbon in the past swimming carnival front and center on the fridge…We need a winning mentality in this club and its hard to bring it in when supporters don't demand it.

I hear your mother calling.
So many juveniles on here. Sad really

Stryker, I agree with your comments a 100% - if it makes me childish so be it

If Talyor can attract a good assistant/ defence coach and has the backing of the big four..then I'm all for it.

Who was the gibberer who kept insisting JT was only contracted to this year & '17 was an option in the clubs favour?

wasnt it tiger torch, the same guy you conveniently quoted to back your point about farah burning bridges :astonished:

Good old Tiger Torch. TT reminds me of the French Resistance bird on 'Allo 'Allo who pops up from nowhere saying "Listen carefully. I shall say this once and once only."

In this day and age when a man can cut his doodle off and the world has to call him a woman, it stands to reason that a coach who has failed for the entire time he has been here gets a contract extension.

So…meh it is what it is....

Great post.

My memory tells me it definitly was TT. In the same post he said that Farah was being moved on to clear money for ET and that Farah had burnt his bridges, he also said that technically the 3rd year was only activated if we made semis. It makes sense though to give him next year, just not sure about extending to 2018 without a ball being kicked yet.

Maybe TT said it, its not whom Im referring to tho, regardless….you seem to have a good albeit incorrect memory of my quoting history...new acct hmmm?

I quoted TT to back up farah burning bridges ???

You know more about me than I do....move on mate

The biggest Xmas present that Taylor should be concerned about is the one our good friend Mayer has given him

The near to 500 k contract in 2018 that Sironen decided to activate

Worse than Farah's situation we have just went through in real terms

Only difference is 99.9% wants Sirro gone

The tap on the shoulder that Farah got, needs to be done to about 5 or 6 players. We must clear some money and move some players on to build up our roster.

Moylan and Cartwright have just re-signed with the panthers. If Tedesco, moses, woods and brooks re-sign before the season starts then sign Taylor away.

Two things on this.

One: we'll never know what Lawrence would have been had he not had his hip injury. Any player can have a horrible, one-off injury that lowers their ceiling, so either clubs shouldn't give deals of more than a couple of years at all or they have to accept that injury will make some of them bad investments. In theory it's part of how you get discounts for longer-term deals: we'll give you five years at less per year than someone else will give you for two, but you're now covered for injury.

Two: I mentioned in my first post that a club has to back its assessment of talent. Maybe Cartwright will always be shaky defensively and prone to turning over the ball, and the Panthers won't get their money's worth. But if you wait until a player realises their potential before backing it you end up with what the Tigers are going to have with Tedesco and - possibly - Moses: young players off contract at the top of their game with dozens of clubs chasing them and willing to pay full price.

Was already signed till the end of 2017…the option in Sironen's favour was for 2018...
