Starting 7 matches and another 9 off the bench thus far seems like he has cracked 1st grade to me, but hey, WT could have run with Hope again instead.

He isn't a star, but can fill a role and is much needed if Api continues to miss a number of matches whilst Haywood develops.

Maybe, and I stand by Apiā€™s words šŸ¤”. However, Iā€™m not a fan of this - family first - signing direction that weā€™ve taken. It will lead to further failure.

In fact, him slotting in at 13 has had him described as a Team First player. Basically he came to the capital looking for a fresh start but ran straight into a dummy-half traffic jam with Tom Starling and rookie Owen Pattie in the mix. Pattie came on quicker than most expected so Ricky had him playing as a hybrid lock/14 super sub instead of letting him rot in reserve grade.
His stats aren't anything special but certainly solid:

Games: 16 NRL 3 KoE
NRL Starts: 7 mostly at lock and 9 games off the pine as the 14
KoE Starts: 3 at hooker
Tackles: NRL 322 at 96% efficiency 76 in Cup (couldn't find the efficiency)
Line Breaks/Try Assists: NRL 0 KoE 1 Try Assist (Grubber)

How does he fit in @ WT for 2027?
Let's be real; he isn't coming to replicate Api's dynamic; he provides crisp service, can back up at 13 if required, and fills a defensive hole. With Api getting older, Brailey gives Benji some NRL flexibility while Haywood develops. He has the defensive ability to start at 9 in a dual hooker system and slot in @ 13 if required while Haywood gets a season of KoE under his belt
What are our thoughts? Pair him with Api in a dual Hooker role, use him as a 14 or have fight with Haywood and potentially play 9 in Cup.

I do expect that this means the departure of Hope; what's in the future for Lanyon?

Agree , him and API as a dual roll , I would start him and let him do the defensive dirty work early say first 20 / 25 then swing api in and let him try and open opposition up with fresh legs and darting runs , could be good , Brailey can also give Twally a spell if needed , but it also gives our young guns more time but they must play reserve grade all year to harden up more , I would play both Haywood and Lanyon in a similar roll as first grade , dual roll , Hope back to Queensland ,

Doubt it'll happen my preference would be start him at 9. His defence, ruck control and service are all very good. Bring Api on to exploit fatigue around the ruck. Game play dictates if Brailey stays on as a defensive 13 or subs off to keep a running forward in the 13 role.

Looks like he will be our 14 for next year, to help out API if needed or fill in lock for 20 mins.

Anything has to be better than Hope.... I think Haywood will benefit from another year in NSW Cup before moving up to first grade in 2028 full-time.
 
He also brings some professionalism to the side and is someone I think can really tutor the younger nines, something I think Api does not do.

Mostly a couple comments made by some former players suggested that is the case.

I do think he is a bit of a different style 9 to most that it wouldn't really be easy for him to try to mould someone to play like him and perhaps he has enough additional responsibilities as captain that there is limited time for doing so.

I know Richo removed the board members from the selection committee, maybe they found their way back.

That said, I actually don't mind this signing. Has leadership qualities taht we need, being an ex-captain of Newcastle and gives us depth in a position we need.

As long as it's at the right price, it ticks a lot of boxes.
 
Think he was a CO captain at Newcastle for a while.

I hope his leadership skills help. I liked the way Sharks have built their roster with guys like Finucane and McCinnes being the off field leaders with hard working players like Kennedy and Hynes the back bone.

Like us, they don't have a bunch of money, but a good crop of Juniors local to them.

Maybe Brailey can be the McInnes and we still need to find the Finucane.
