OFFICIAL Jeral Skelton #294

one of my mates is a dogs fan...hes not happy on this either.
seems to be the general consensus

It’s rare we sign a fringe player at another club in which the fans are very unified & not happy he has been let go. Also even more rare when a club has done all the development ready work for us.

We also need to remember the Bulldogs brought him from Union and progressed his development via the right methods. Much like the Storm do with Union players.

Learn our game via NSW Cup, get some NRL experience when you’re ready for the call up and then build off it. Almost the perfect timing for him to make the next step up.

Excellent VALUE. Consider:

Val Holmes to Dragons at $800k+.
Jnr Tupou to Dolphins at $550k.
Skelton to Tigers at $235k.

There is a standout value deal there and it’s our deal. Money is saved to hopefully put towards some excellent forwards.

Great roster building.

I presume the Skelton signing will give forumers around 3 weeks before they start getting impatient again and start calling for Richo’s head…..

An encouraging signing signing by the club that will improve our yardage game on kick returns. Well done to Richo and crew on this.

Let’s hope the other signings soon to be announced will also be clear improvements to the squad.

Here’s where I think so many Tigers fans get it wrong. Not totally wrong but party wrong.

Next time you watch the Tigers pause the game on the 3rd or the 4th when the opposition is on attack. Count our defenders on each side and count their attackers.

I feel that you will see that perhaps half our centre issues and half our winger jamming issues literally come from our defensive line getting stripped for players on one side.

I have opinions on why it happens but it’s not the point I wannnna make. Ask your side why centres looks so bad defensively when they put on our jersey.
I do the same often the best time is straight before a try of which there has been quite a few to review. I’d be curious to hear your opinions, if you want to avoid an open discussion, pm me.

Here’s a Smokey , how about SIVO , for two years , I think he’s on $550,000 , would we take him if the slimmmy eels , paid $150,000 or even $200,000 , he has gone if the boil but he is a proven scorer and a big body

I’m more confident in my observations that it happens wayyy to often than I am in why exactly it happens.

Some thought:
Fitness in the middle is one factor. The cover defence starts with the inside defenders. We don’t seem to have the desperation from inside defenders. Rather than suggest there is a lack of intent to cover I’m going to suggest it’s fitness. Stef and Pole especially have this issue.

I don’t see Bula as an organising fullback. This compounds above. He is young and he has so much good stuff in his game, but hasn’t developed this YET.

I’m less confident in my next opinion / theory but I don’t think we have figured out or are coaching effectively to counter more players in motion. We seem to have a point where we can handle it, but once there are two decoy players in motion our structure totally struggles. Maybe the preparation and video work on opposition structures isn’t there, or maybe our structure / players are to easy to coach against.

A bunch of players now getting crushed and their misses compounding the ability of cover to commit to the cover defence. Eg More recently Galvin is a major cause. His first 4-5 games I believe he had a total of 1 missed tackle. He can tackle. I think he is just exhausted and not coping with losing. He’s not the only one, it’s just so obvious because he is actually a very good defender. When the cover is trying to cover a half deficiency the speed of cover drops or they overrun the problem. Add in opposition players in motion and cover stops inside, we are already stripped and winger or centre is forced to jam and thus looks like a goose and gets roasted

Very nice upgrade one Tupou.

Currently is what Tupou has potential to be, with more room for improvement.

We can't afford to keep waiting on potential.

All good points. It’s obviously systemic.

I question there ability to read a game / in game situations.
A good one to review was the first Fletcher Sharpe try.
We had numbers on the blind side, they had no playmaker on the opposing side of the field yet from the tackle one player ran back to that side to add more numbers to the blind. The two at marker stood around the middle even though there were no runners coming in tight to the ruck.
From the moment it spread we were all out by one eventually two with the inclusion of their fullback sweeping.
That was the 1st of 4 tries down that side.

Mentioned Bula lack of communication being significant this season in another post - good to see someone else has noticed it.

You’re less confident opinion I feel is spot on.

If you look at how we attack we never do with decoys & almost everytime we scramble the 2nd it comes our way.

Also agree re the middle / fitness we get rolled easily and our pack get’s gassed. The second we have to face some speed with space we are found out.
