Jersey Flegg Team List: Rd 13

The Feds were a great club Garrry although I hated them when I played them. It was a shame when they disbanded a few years ago but I know they're back and playing in the Canterbury junior league I think. Their best player from my year was Neville Sinclair. If he played we'd lose but we'd win if he didn't. He went on to play first grade for Wests.
The other guy I remember was Tony Ford. He was a bit older than me but was the best running fullback I'd ever seen when he came into grade with Wests. A few coathangers slowed him down by the time he got to firsts.
The year we signed John Dorahy, Tony played the opening game of the year against Balmain at Lidcombe. We beat them 62 - 5 that day with Tony scoring 23 points from a try and 10 goals. Glen Capelin scored the only Balmain try, the last try of the game. After about 3 games Dorahy came into first grade and that was the end of Ton'y first grade career.
What club did you play for???

Ashfield De La Salle. It was a school team that played in the WSDJRL for a few years. The gun side in our age was Concord United with Feds next and then us. The best we did was to be losing grand finalists in 1963 (I think).

Poor Tony had his head taken off by McKean from the roosters one day at Lidcombe and was never the after that.

He had it taken off a few times in his career. His unusual running style somehow made it easier to hit him with a coathanger. Met him years later at a function our wives attended. He was happy to have a talk and was quiter modest about his career.

I don't think he's a fullback but has all the attributes to become a first grader on the wing. hopeful him and Scolari can progress through the grades and replace Nofo and Maumalo long term.
He's definitely not a fullback. So why are we playing him there? This is step one in developing junior talent. Find their position and play them there - is it a wonder we struggle to convert flegg talent to NRL level?
