Jersey Flegg Team List: Round 11

Very disappointing. As I say we don't have a culture of excellence, where slacking off isn't tolerated.

Sure we'll have good games and poor games but slacking Off when you're winning fairly comfortably is a mental issue, and one the coach would not only know about bit be actively trying to avoid it.

This attitude wouldn't be tolerated at Penrith

Speaking of Penrith they got belted 42-14 by Souths, so they're not immune either.

I was surprised that our team isn't that physically big...we've got a lot of solid boys, but no one that stands 6'3 or 6'4 from what I could see. Mavoni is probably 6'1 at most.

We play St George next week who moved into second after beating Cronulla, so we're out on top by 1 point atm.

They're still kids and they'll have bad days. And if you play well and are switched on win dominantly but lose the occasional game on an off day that's fine. I'm not sure whether this team keeps having good or bad games though.

I'd rather lose the occasional game than almost throw away a win every week and draw

I get what you're saying - I think with this team its a bit of killer instinct they lack, and match fitness - Victoria were on their knees with injuries today but definitely looked the fitter side despite being outclassed - they just hung tough whereas WT didn't.

Didn’t we have a draw with them in Round 1? I just had a look and you’re right. I thought we had an earlier draw. Maybe it was one of the Ball or HM teams.

Thunderbolts r the new Illawarra ,a draw every 3rd game

Unfortunately another poor performance. Our attack was limited pretty much to bash and barge. The incessant bringing the ball back on the inside instead of mixing it up & going wide was frustrating whilst inexplicably we seem to have even mostly abandoned going high to the air (or when we do the kicks are poor) which worked so well in earlier games.

I thought Ogden was quite good. Mavoni strong with the ball and a handful.

Our 17 made 3 very costly errors that led directly to tries when all we had to do was hold onto the ball. It would be most unfair to blame him for the loss. There were far too many errors all round.

If we play like that again this week we can expect a big thumping from St George.

Not sure if we are unfit or just fatigued but Lambkins gave this side all a big serve after the game including those that have trained at NRL level.

Hustle beats talent when talent won't hustle.

This is a side that has too much potential to continually play only 2/3rds of the game to an acceptable standard each week.

Thanks Thaiger for the rundown, could Scolari plays 1st grade yet?

Very lazy side in the middle. Kids have to learn that as you go up in grade you can’t just run over blokes, you have to add things to your game, Ogden and kei were beaten by footwork continually in defence, kei showing nothing atm and slow, Ogden going ok in attack but judging by the weekend has issues in defence when defending in front line, Dillon fist touch , stupid pass went to ground also poor attempt on thunderbolts front rower that led to a try, but is a class above with the ball, I counted 7 clean line breaks he made and I think he also got a meat pie. Mavoni hard to handle but so lazy in defence, he shouldn’t be he doesn’t play many minutes, our real problem in this side is it’s lacking 2 players, a hard fit gun defensive middle and a decent dummy half, but in the end nobody really cares about winning or losing in this grade, it’s about 2 or 3 kids progressing to nrl.

#17 was Fonua Pole who’s playing up an age group from SG Ball.

Unfortunate about his errors but from all reports on here he’s quite the talent so I’m sure with age and more experience at that level he’ll get there.

Thanks Thaiger for the rundown, could Scolari plays 1st grade yet?

Probably not. It's a very big leap to NRL. Not sure if he has the experience yet but is tough, has the heart and will to defend at all costs. Would like to see him (and Dillon) in State Cup for a few games at least. He does a lot of defence for a winger, is quick, runs the hard yards, is safe under the high ball and can jump.

Dillon has speed to get around his man nearly every single time and can create opportunities. Players should be ready to back him up.

I think @sly 's recent post is quite accurate about what happened on Saturday. Hard to get super enthusiastic about any performance really. The halves tend to go well one week then go quiet the next. Both do have a good kicking game in them but seem to be a bit inconsistent like many kids I guess.

I like the look of Ott who has started the past couple of games.

It's frustrating because here we have an undefeated team who really should have won most games by 20 but have either slackened off and held on for a win or a number of draws.

Yes agree. Can't hang him on one performance when he has been very good and he certainly wasn't Robinson Crusoe on Saturday.

Mavoni sure has a lot to work on. Rolling over opponents in flegg is one thing, but he can barely last 15 mins on the field at Flegg. He just gets absolutely gassed and doesn't even arm grab, he just doesn't get into position and walks everywhere. Quite concerning, not sure how he'd make the step up the grades, needs to have a massive off season to improve his engine.

Similar issue with Lui but he is definitely ahead of Mavoni at this stage. Played 50 odd mins in Ron Massey and scored a couple of tries and was solid in defence.

If Mavoni was playing 30 min stints i could understand. I certainly hope he puts the work in because the game has moved past bench props that give you 15 mins of power a game.

He needs time in NSW Cup to adapt to that level first. All the more reason to promote him soon and move on the likes of Cooper to Massey.

If we start blooding him now and see how he handles the step up he may be an option for next season. If we leave him in Flegg all season then he won't be.

Seems like they might've expected an easy win. Thunderbolts have 1 win all year and tigers haven't beaten them

WT thumped them early in the season

He needs time in NSW Cup to adapt to that level first. All the more reason to promote him soon and move on the likes of Cooper to Massey.

If we start blooding him now and see how he handles the step up he may be an option for next season. If we leave him in Flegg all season then he won't be.

Quick question

Is mavoni A- built like a tank or B- built like a aircraft carrier ??

I'll take C, over weight and unfit

Who knows what's going on for him outside the game. But he really seems like the sort of guy who will have to learn the hard way and it might involve him leaving our club to do so.
