Someone tell me how our playing roster is any better than when he turned up 5 years ago. Are we more attractive as a club to possible recruits?
No, he a massive fail that fits in well here.
His appearance shows he either has no pressure on him at all from the board or that he just given up.

Firstly, obviously the coach is more responsible for recruitment and retention and 5yrs ago we were transitioning to Jason Taylor. When Pascoe joined the club and the squad were crumbling due to a poor board and coach.

The current squad under this coach would put 50 on the 2017 squad. The club is not thriving because we are still recovering from some bad years but it is clearly in every respect heading in the right direction.

If our systems were in place and producing fast young backs, we would not be forced to rely on Joey Leilua's and to a lesser extent Roberts. When are we going to see fast young backs promoted to the NRL from our juniors? I believe Maguire should be able to answer this question as he has been here for some time.

When there is 1 good enough to play nrl I’m guessing

And why hasn't our system being producing them as the Panthers, Brisbane, God Coast and Knights do?

I think boys unfortunately with Pascoe - he tries hard, he does his best, but he's just not good enough. I don't know who else we could get bc Grant Mayer was ordinary too. My business partner used to be on the board of the Sharks and they had the same issues too with the CEO - whole Damian Keogh thing.

Personally I'd be getting Madge in front of the players - why they hell are Pascoe and Lee doing it? At least Madge can talk footy to impress the player - the suits should only come in to negotiate with the agent for the $. Unless you have quality personell like Rusty, Uncle Nick or respected professionals.

Our admin guys should stay right out of talking to players. (Hartigan the exception)

Hartigan was there and Pascoe has a relationship with Roberts so a bit of a pointless post.

Totally pointless unless the point is a free kick in the balls for Pascoe. That seems to be the whole point for some.

Gee I’m glad our coaching staff don’t take much notice of what some rocket scientist on here come up with.
If I was coach and had some young players with nothing more than potential on the roster (like we have) and players such as Roberts and Mansour are available on the cheap than I would definitely take a risk and sign them.
Yes 2 year max, and let’s face it if they can’t handle it they are both only one breakdown away from medical retirement so very low risk.
These Guys are first grade ready and alternative option to fill our roster with large % of young & untried at first grade level players is fine but don’t expect any great team improvement short term.

You want to buy blokes you know are one injury away from retirement? One that had been shown the door at every club he's been at?
Low ceiling mate

I think Mansour would be good for team morale, but that’s about it now. Roberts for speed and he isn’t over the hill age wise. However his head is rarely in a game, he has one great game once in a blue moon and he has become highly overrated because of it - it’s never been any different.

My point being that Pascoe and the club are doing the right thing at least kicking tyres.

No club is entirely current SOO standard but IMO if your entire team is just short of SOO selection (Nofo) you are top 4.

I dont think Mansour is a bad option. We need experience and youth. Jimmy is a gun. In his prime you would be mad not to want him in your team. I think Madge would be good for Jimmy. AJ looks like a fullback to me. We would have Mansour and Nofo as wingers. We would be missing height out wide. Not that dissimilar from every other year. Just play to their guys strengths which is Madge's type of football. Hard through the middle style of footy. I like the Jimmy idea
I think if he still wants to play - why not for us?!

One of our many problems is a lack of pace, and Mansour only adds to that problem rather than solving it.

Roberts at a really cheap price makes sense, he’s a quality player with a heap of speed. Unfortunately if he made a line break with us he’d have no winger that could keep up with him in support.

And why does he feel compelled to comment on player negotiations? LM and JAC he ran to the press and ended up looking like a fool.

The team that came last , the team that has half of Sydney as it’s junior nursery (also where a huge proportion of Pacific Islanders live ), the team that perpetually signs “name” players for them to a move up and snort coke of strippers’ anus for the duration of thier contract , and a team so bad in recent years , they went out and signed half the roosters over 30 brigade just to be competitive , and paid a 18 year old 650k , who’d never played first grade ( it worked , but the risk was huge ) .

Can we get some perspective please .

Here is a bit of perspective for you.

Cleary, Luai, Yeo, Crichton, Coates, Staggs, Flegler, Oates, Nui, Paix, Farnworth, Reardon, Best, Hoy, Toa Saffiti bros

None of them are fullbacks . You can’t count Queenslanders as the broncos have first dibs with the storm , so yea , and who’s Reardon ? Are you talking about Deardon ? Once again that team came last . Katoni staggs is from Wellington near Dubbo. Cleary is the coaches son , so common man ! The newy boys , whatever , once again a whole catchment from Gosford to the border and west to Cessnock. And we do have some gun juniors coming through .
You’re so hell bent on overhyping other teams players . And signing them all . And completely writing off ours . On one hand , you talk about how best juniors have been poached away and are rep players , on the other you say we don’t produce any . PERSPECTIVE

Brisbane finished last this year but I didn't mind because the club had the confidence to back its development programme and youth. I believe the Broncs will finish ahead of us next season. While the Broncs don't lose often, it is great they have taken a long term approach to success not only investing in youth but having the confidence to back it in the NRL.

That other clubs have scouted and recruited better than us shouldn't result in our response being they have a big catchment for juniors or that is in regional NSW or. Brisbane. We need to do much better.

We're supposedly a development club and the best we can do if rumour is correct. Is to offer a slow 30 year old winger a start when he can't get a start at his own club. And this purchase is to overcome a chronic lack of pace in the backline? Seems quite an odd strategy don't you think? If we are a development club, shouldn't WTs say to Mansour, sorry but if we buy you one of our juniors will miss out. Further, we learn that Maguire has been offered a new deal. With that buffer, shouldn't he be now pressing on with promoting juniors and accepting we will have a. long year in the long term interests of the Club?

This news about Mansour on the back of the Leilua. J signing has shaken my confidence in Maguire.

Lee was quite in the media once and was shown to be 100% correct. Also how many times during this protracted time did you read “why doesn’t the club come out and tell us what is going on?” Well our chairman came out ONCE and simply said JAC signed a HoA and if he isn’t at Melbourne he will be at the Tigers. You can’t have it both ways . You were complaining we don’t develop them , and also complaining we don’t keep them . You’re all over the place . Flat out your issue is we don’t have better players , in your opinion. You’re upset we kept the wrong players and upset we signed the wrong players . But the key to all this is past tense . We have legacy issues with the 24- retirement age players . Because when they were coming up we were a basket case . Now we have to convince them that the current pathways is fixed . And it takes a lot of convincing it appears .
The only way through is to keep the current path for our juniors , which means buying stop gap players , like Mansour , who can do a job for a year , whilst Th ese kids get ready . Or we can sign wingers for 800k to play fullback , when they will be playing wing in 10 games because they’re not a fullback . This is why we didn’t pay him 800k . Because you don’t pay wingers 800k.

The chairman came out day one and said we will make the 8 and nothing else was acceptable...despite literally everyone with some football knowledge knowing we were in cap hell and did not have the squad. Why not be sensible and say this thing will take a couple of years, but we will see it through?

All it did was set up more talk of failure.

He basically guaranteed LM, when it was not going to ever really happen. So, again, it looked like we failed.

And why even comment on Jimmy The Jet? Social media reacted negatively, so he jumped in and said 'nothing to do with a contract, just checking his welfare'....how will he look now if we do end up signing Roberts?

He looks a lot to me like someone who just likes to see his firm mentioned in the media as often as possible. Same with his involvement with NSW.

And I get that...he gets tons of media mention for Bryden's, well above what advertising would cost. It is a smart business move. But there is no need to comment on things like player negotiations.

Not until you get a couple right, anyway. Being perpetually wrong does no one any good.

We've a chronic lack of pace in the back line, we attempt to sign JAC and that fails. The answer now it seems is to buy a slow 30 year old winger as a 'stop gap'. How does that fix our lack of pace? It doesn't so the problem will still be there next year although we've spent more money to not fix the problem. It appears to be policy being made on the run and a reaction to failing to sign JAC. And you write of me being all over the place!
