Roberts done deal I’m told.

I’ll drink to that

Agreed. The fact he’s willing to accept a fraction of his previous contracts leads me to believe he knows this is 100% his last chance.

Being such a prodigious talent coming up through the grades, I imagine up until getting the boot from Souths he had never even considered he might need to find a real job so soon. That is a very strong motivation to finally turn things around.

Honest question, who has turned their career around at Wests?

Good players have left and become great players but i cant recall any out of form/last chance players actually doing anything other than being a draw on the cap.

In saying that, worth a gamble I guess not like there is much to pick from at the moment but i fully expect if Wests sign him he will be part of Plodder's Inc.

Todd Payten comes to mind. Played his best football, by far, once he came to Wests. Matterson did alright as well.

Brett Hodgson as well, I remember when we signed him Parra fans were saying his body can’t handle NRL.

This guy we need to look after. I have real concerns for Jimmy, especially post football. The sport sucks you into a reality which just isn’t there once you retire. He has battled demons but always had footy to fall back on, something he knows well. I hope he can prolong his career as long as possible by getting back on track and playing the way we all know he can.

Agreed hopefully we can turn him around

Grant played origin after one season with us

I'd play him at fullback or wing. He's not good defensively at centre and he won't ever be, but if he can catch then I think he could be brilliant in those positions. If it doesn't work out he's a good squad player to have on that money.

I like this signing if it comes off far more upside than down, on another note if he and Laurie sign it will be good to have some indigenous boys at our club.

IMO Tigers made Scott Prince, Gareth Ellis, Brett Hodgson, Todd Payten, PAt Richards, Paul WHatuira, Tapau, Blake Austin, Twal, have come to the Tigers and improved their game and status.

I think it is too much to ask him to play fullback. Centre is the best place to have x factor players. Wing maybe, but he hasn't played there for 7-8 years.

Prince, Payten, Hodgson, Elford, Richards, Austin, Tapau and Lote came back from union as a risk

Surely we can claim him as an origin player for us, had a hell of a game too I privately cheered him and I’m kind of disgusted with myself.

I would really love to know why he is forfeiting $500k at Souths and a month later happy to go to WT on scraps . there seems to be much more to the story of Souths letting him go

He was likely on his final warning and had actually had his contract terminated or settled.

Actually wasn’t thinking of that , more that a incident may have occured that hasn’t been reported.
frankly I think past few years have shown that Souths are not as forthcoming as other clubs

Ellis was a great player before he came to us.In the games he played against Australia he was always a standout in a beaten side and better or equal to any of ours.I agree on the others thay all improved while they were with us
