Jimmy the Jet

We need to score points. We are averaging less than 2 tries per game. Lack of attacking ability in the centres is a major cause of this.
Had been a concern for years now.
Club needs to realise this (much like Brooks is a 6 not a 7) like we, us, everybody can see...

And invest in a position we're desperately lacking.

Still looks injured
FunFact - in the Sharks drubbing, Mulitalo, outside of Talakai, only scored once. Talakai didn't score at all & was well held. Roberts didn't play that day - Garner was Centre & he & Nofo weren't the targets. 5 tries were scored on our left side edge, where Gildart & Ken defended & Kelma's lack of lateral D was evident (Though, when he hits them they stay hit)

I would chase legit centres that have high ceilings.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, or it WAS.... everyone's forgot about Talau but he'd score a decent try and follow it up with dropped balls, missed tackles and leak points.

I'd be letting go of him, Jet , Kei and another forum fav.... AJ.

And replacing them with guys like May, Kris, whatever available that is good to go.

Right now we have 9 players off contract for next year
- 8 are regular 17 players for us over the last 12mths.
- Kei, Roberts and TT off contract + assume Gildart talk is real as well. Can't see AJ leaving a year early unless a club chases him given he has hardly played any football last 12-18mths.
- That gives us 4 spots we need to fill.

Provided we can find better upgrades, position wise we need to target:
- 1 spot needs to be a fullback then winger (not other way)
- 2 spots must be specialist centres
- 1 spot winger

Kris as a centre isn't better than what we have at the moment, his defensive attributes are worse than Gildarts and he just turned 23 so age wise isn't young anymore. In saying that his versatility across Fullback, Wing and Centre would be a massive upgrade on Kei.

May is a winger, has been playing a larger chunk as a winger before covid stopped NSW Cup and this year. He has played centre in the juniors but needs more open space to be effective with his frame. He won't come here unless he is paid well and as a starter not squad player. He plays on the left and would need to take Ken's spot. This would require Madge to make a really tough call on Ken which I struggle to see happening. Nofa won't be punted, no club will take on his salary for another 3yrs on current form.

Turuva I would target as the Fullback role
Farmworth would chase hard for the centre role

The Jet Laurie friendship may bring the best put of both of them.

Reckon the Jet may be close to MOM.this Saturday.

Finally looks like his part of the team instead of a lonely figure out wide.
Defensively he has shown improvement, need to see some of that old explosiveness and a couple of tries before I’m singing his praises

Farmworth would be a good signing for us as he looks like a versatile lad with heaps off potential.

If all that is correct - I'd be looking for a couple second rowers amongst that...
Be handy.

For next year if we keep to our current roster setup we are currently in need of 2 (Kelma/Garner) backrowers & 2 props (Tamou/Mikaele) who are part of our top 17 week in week out side.

Lucy is replaced by Papa unless Sheens has him down as a prop which would explain why we have chased Nikora, both Nikora and Papa plays right side same as Lucy.

We still need the following NRL quality players
- 2 Backrowers
- 2 Props

Right now roster wise goes to have 40% (8 of your regular top 20) of the rotation turned over during an offseason is almost unheard of especially to get the quality coming in & expect success.

I also expect something will give with Liddle/Simpkins due to Api coming. Having the 3 of them doesn't make roster sense especially given we extended Rua & have Peachey in the squad next year. So that makes it 45% (9) potential players being turned over.

Reason I talk about this is being realistic with who we keep and don't because that volume of cattle isn't out their especially when you have the other teams competing, covid slowing down development and a brand new team who needs players in every position. Some of our current players I think will be extended for 1-2yrs.

And what if Papalii is replacing Joffa at 13?

I expect around 10 changes to the roster for next year ……
Lucy, Kelma (unfortunately) with Garner, Liddle, Tamou, Mikaele, Roberts, Kei, Simpkins and from some reports Gildard could also be looking to go back home.
Paps and Api to offset that to some degree but that’s quite a gap to fill.
I would add Talau, Peach and AJ to that lot depending on their performance when available this season.
Contracts don’t mean much nowadays so looking at players off contract lists has little meaning. Lots of horse trading between now and 2023 season.
Will be keen to watch in house progress of our juniors to see if another Rua emerges. There is talent there and some of this season poor lower grades performances should not be taken as a guide that there is not.
Im not sure who our new recruits will be but hopefully they should and will be upgrades on what’s leaving.
Good player Recruitment is a difficult science to master and very few get it right. Best recruiting clubs like the Panthers, Roosters and the Storm succeed because they have a good core of quality supplemented with either good junior development or smart low cost but well motivated player pick ups.
We can only hope that we can establish that core so that we can do the same.

I want him to perform more then anyone else, but he’s busted like Ken.

Hastings was hammering Roberts all game to get back on side - he was stuffed.

Although, it makes sense because JTJ / To’a we’re targeted all game, I doubt South’s go that way seeing the footage.

The whoever is doing it is doing it wrong.. one of the comps most destructive edge forwards.. would do a job in the middle no doubt but much more effective on an edge..
You might have it around they wrong Way Geo...
May well be the best middle forward in the comp who absolutely tears teams to shreds
- who's also destructive (Not as much) on an edge.

It will be interesting because it's South's left edge will is usually so lethal.

Smash Johnston and break his legs.

Remember as a kid having the coach always yell out, "they can't run with out legs."

I hope for his own sake JTJ finds form, but we have Douehi coming back and will waltz into the position.

Also, there's the young manly centre we nabbed. Captain of their side and an out and out centre. A year or two away from NRL but long term could be our first pick centre.

Love that second sentence. It’s the difference maker.
