Totally agree. The best halves have their running game as their main threat. Teams tend to stand off them and don’t target their runners.
I think that is the big difference between Douiehi and Madden. While not being overly quick off the mark, Douiehi is a much bigger body and will take the line on if given the opportunity. Jock was outstanding last week but his running game wasn’t a feature.

I disagree. The best halves don't have running game as their main threat, but have a good enough running game to make the defence question what they're going to do.
DCE has been the best half in the game for a decade, how's his running game? Reynolds? They can make the occasional break but they're strongest skills are kicking and passing.
Madden has a decent running game, he's not going to score a length of the field try but if he makes a break 20 out he can score.
The problem with AD in the halves is his reluctance to pass the ball. He's a me first player, running or sometimes kicking. And he just doesn't think about creating space and passing to his outside backs. That's why there's still massive question marks on his ability to play 7. He'll get the first month, with Latu out Madden will likely play 14. See how the balance of the team goes

If Doueihi plays hog and run and stinks up the depth and shape moments that present themselves in games going forward, they were evident from the last trial and a welcomed sight.
Then Benji needs to dump his arse from the 7 and give it to Madden, at the right time that's what we want to see a bit of imagination in attack, not the stale blunt force trauma, boring.

Before anything between AD and Jock can be assessed our pack needs to at a minimum hold their own against the opposition. If we get dominated and are on the back foot it won’t matter who our 7 is!
I’ll be the first to admit my misjudgment of AD as a quality ball player if he can prove me wrong - i worry that he has few of the advanced passing, kicking, timing, ball playing skills that a quality 7 needs. He can run the ball - no doubt but has little finesse in any department.
I see a style that uses all 4 of them offering attacking options on both sides and some rest for Api. If Benji can get them playing this way we will be hard to defend against.

I disagree, twal is our lock , AD is miles in front of madden , his defence is a big problem
Some of those early kicks into space was game management not seen at this club in quite a while.

Doeuihi cannot kick, he can't pass. All he can do is run into gaps that others put him into. Madden's defence is fine. Our system's need to make sure we don't have little guys isolated 1-1 with much bigger guys right on the line.
Without Madden we would have lost. Doeuihi needs to find a new position.
Twal is playing well but could easily play prop too.

Agree he has deficiencies with his passing and kicking. And with Twal. He could do what he’s doing as a prop. And with madden being a reason for why we won.
I gotta disagree with you with douehi running into gaps others people put him into. He on at least 3 occasions created opportunities with the way he straightened, held up a pass and ran through the defense.
U don’t know a lot about football , AD can pass he set up to great try’s , his runs were great madden is not any where AD , when AD lets lost with the bomb he is way better than madden , who’s defence is terrible
Thank god u anti picking the team , madden is a nsw cup player at best

Interested to see what Benji does with Jock going forward. That was one of the best kicking performances I've ever seen from a WT half. Doueihi and Luai are better players than him and are more important to the team, but neither of them have the skill set he does.
Depending on how the next few weeks go, Jock has the opportunity to force Benji's hand so that he can't be left out.

Jock did a great job, but I want to temper my excitement until we have played our next 5 games.
This is the 3rd year we have been 2W 1L in our first 3 matches and then we lose a few close ones and fall away.
It's also early in the season where teams are not in their best form.
If we can jag 3 or 4 wins from the next 5...without Luai and Taylan, then I'll believe we are the real deal.
We haven’t looked this cohesive …in defence in those years . The issue won’t be Newcastle and the eels , even though those games are 50/50. It goes broncos , raiders , sharks , storm . If we are fair dinkum we should be looking at at least 3 wins , hopefully 4. Even with the outs in the backline .
