Whole pre season he should be groomed as our main playmaker imo

I'd like to agree but we need options. What if he comes in and can't tackle ? He should get an opportunity and then it's up to him.

He is a poor defender just like Benji however he has youth on his side and under the right coaching he could learn it same as Brooks has learnt to tackle

Brooks still misses tackles but he has improved under Madge, give the kid a run before season end he deserves a taste of 1st grade considering who we have also blooded this season.

What i don't want to happen is that we give nil opportunity and he signs a deal somewhere else and we miss out on a quality player long term.

Agreed he has a decent kicking game and should be advised he is probably part of our future

I’m surprised so many people want to rush this kid in. He hasn’t played any football for 6 months. Looks like he has potential but let’s be fair to him and give him time to get ready.

Im excited to see him but seeing as benji won't be playing next year does he partner brooks in the halves in one of the next games. Next year it is either walters, madden, Doehi, reynolds or talau to partner brooks or they drop brooks.

I unfortunately don't see Madden getting a run this year as the club will be in overdrive trying to settle the media by playing Benji the last 4 games. ( out of the so called respect)
I would love him to get a run even if he is on the bench and comes on for 20 mins to get the taste of NRL. That alone would motivate a kid for the off season. Same for Simpkins

I think we will see him off the bench in at least one game this year. Just to give him a taste.

That would be my option as well.Probably 10 mins just to get a feel of FG

Also a halves coach next year, given how Brooks is a shell of his Ivan Cleary form, for whatever reason, I'd like to see someone coach the young halves more specialised.

If you see this Nuffy as the future then God help the club. The 20s went better without him and CC went backwards with him. 🤦‍♂️

I would think Madden will get his chance at some stage this year unfortunately with our draw its going to be against the top sides BUT you have to start somewhere and it will give Madge a chance to see what he's got to work with I read an article this week dont have the thread but it likened Madden to a similar style player to LUKE KEARY ah well time will tell

With the Benji news I doubt madden will get a run, at best maybe off the bench but the fans will go ballistic if Benji doesn’t get a farewell

I reckon Doueihi will be shifted to 6.. if not for Benji's Magical Mystery Tour farewell he would be there now..

Madden to actually get some development should Canterbury Cup return in 2021..

So true, many of these kids who are considered first grade material haven't even played Canterbury Cup for at least 12 months. There is still a while to go before they can be capable of playing in the halves or elsewhere.

Thats so annoying. The tigers deserve to give Marshall a proper send off but Madden needs a run at first grade.

And yet Newcastle weren't upset to see him go ?‍♂️

I heard they weren’t happy about losing him when we signed him. Jock was a standout in all the junior reps systems won a heap of awards

It was Nathan Brown upset about losing Madden being a local junior. Only problem being he is not a Knight's junior, he's from Scone. His cousin is the Wallaby half Nick White. I believe his grandfather was a Kangaroo.

Stop being a bunch of pussies and play him next week. So many conservatives on here. Sharks throw in two rookie halves who haven't played in 6 months and win. Knights have given Crossland game time this season. Many clubs have thrown in young backups, some perform, dome don't. Dont forget the likes of Staines and Burton hadn't played all season before they got their chance.

Our existing halves have been awful all season. Madden ticks every box that we're looking for in a half. An organising halfback, kicks goals, good kicking game, played in all the junior rep teams. He must play in at least one game this season. We have nothing to lose. Yes we're playing some good sides but tough, we should have already played him earlier, or ideally this weekend against a crap manly side. Why isn't he even on our extended bench?

There is absolutely no reason to play Benji next week. Whether Madden starts or comes off bench he shold get a run.

I would hold him back till next year, I really don't like the idea of having a half make his debut when he hasn't played football for a year. Give him the preseason training in the role so he can hit the ground running.

I would agree with you had he not played in the trial six months back, though as he went okay for a first up run, gaining experience of the lift in both defence and physicality, then training with the squad since, I see no issue in playing him. Given the option, would have had Jock playing alongside Luke this weekend for some half the match and adding more minutes each week if he shows an ability to handle it.

It is often the number of consecutive matches that find out youngsters, but that should not be an issue with only a few rounds to go and allow him and the coach to work on appropriate areas of his game.
