Agree, but Aloiai getting to leave without any repercussions leaves a bad taste. Just proves tmanagers can advise their clients to act like he has and you will get your way eventually. Only damage to reputation.

We can't even complain about it, because we have replaced him with another player that was also under contract to another club.

Would have preferred we bled manly more given they caused the alioai. Assuming we enquired about sirro but was a no go so had to take the $$$

can anyone tell me whats so good about this guy, i mean if ur not starting for a last place bronco team and ur 0-15 wins on the year
and why are we signing former origin players who aren't performing

We got an undisclosed 6 figure sum for his release. I'll take that.

Give him a full preseason under Madge, and I think he'll regain his 2019 form.
Tell me who did perform at the Broncos this year under Seibold.

I think this is a reasonable outcome for us, the fact that we didnt get a player from Manly doesnt bother me. We got a player we wanted whether or not that was in the works prior im not sure, but Aloiai was one of better forwards but thats not such a high bench mark really he's an average first grader.
I think if we didnt have Packer grub & Mbye wasting away our cap we possibly could have played thing harder but its like fighting with one hand behind your back with cap thieves like that in your roster. Possibly the best of a bad situation.

We did and that helps our bottom line, not necessarily our on field performance.

I would imagine we floated a few player swap names but it doesn't matter if said player does not want to leave.

Again, I just feel alioai has gotten his way by sulking and has been rewarded with an upgrade and extension for his crappy actions. Not sure what we can do about it though??

We shouldnt have to. The Nrl should be accountable for this mess. 400 workers not long ago and couldnt organise simple rules around this.

Simple if you want to leave early you grt a 25% reduction on your salary for the remainder of the current Teams salary. Stop a few of them straight up.

Not much we can do except get as much return as possible. Hopefully the money received can be used to poach Laurie for 2021.

Very true.

If management can somehow flip alioai, into daine Laurie and a subsidised Joe O for 2021, then that is a great result.

Combined with the Roberts and tamou signings, it starts to look like a very good off season, despite the early doom and gloom.

I think the big thing in this people are missing is we offered Aloiai $450k. We pick up Joffa at a subsidised salary of around $300k. This puts us ahead by approx $150k plus money in the bank to try and lure over Laurie. Upgrade of player...big win for us.

Former Origin player? He played in 2019

This has been a better off season than I was expecting.

I mentioned the other day that it’s been as entertaining as the regular season. The only issue is that I’ve got my hopes up..

Me too, I think we are a genuine shot at the 8.

Former Origin player? He played in 2019

Exactly, it's not like he's s 33 year old with busted knees who played Origin a decade ago.

I think Ofahengaue is an upgrade over Aloiai. Someone who can play anywhere in the forwards, an Origin player, an international rep, plus he's a lot fitter than JA. A couple of times last year, JA got caught out being tired in defence & the opposition ran right around him.

Scored a few nice tries tho

We had a chance here to stand up to these players, and instead we caved.

I genuinely don't understand why people think this. The Tigers said they weren't going to just release Aloiai without a replacement. Such a replacement became available, and they were able to use the cash they were going to spend on Aloiai to secure him.

Pick an option:
A) Stick Aloiai in reserves and don't replace him on the first grade roster, to make a point that we won't be pushed around.
B) Stick Aloiai in reserves and sign another prop, using money that could have been used to strengthen the squad elsewhere.
C) Decline to release Aloiai until a suitable replacement can be found, find one, sign him and then release Aloiai to free up cap space for said signing - thus making a like-for-like swap.

You're totally welcome to believe Ofahengaue isn't a good replacement for Aloiai. You might be right. But if the club thinks he is, using Aloiai's money to get him is clearly the best outcome for the 2021 roster.

Joe O is not a replacement for Aloiai. There was plenty of room and funds for both. I don't watch Broncos except for when we play them, so I don't know much about our new player. I'm hoping for good things though.

Gaining Joe and losing Josh are two unrelated events.

The problem here is we said we would not release Josh A unless we received a financial advantage. That was a very public statement. And now WT have said we received a payment for Josh A (good to hear) but we're not disclosing how much, WT just wants us to trust them. Maybe it was a high enough amount, and really if the figure was publicised, only WT are in a position to adequately judge whether the figure meets their criteria or not for it being a 'good enough' amount.

It is just very unfortunate that there was no deterrent for players stitching us up again. And a lot of us said this last time with Matterson. So who's next? Nofa? Twal? Mikaele? Talau? Liddle? I'm guessing it's more than one next time. Wonder how that will go down.

Seriously all the *****"WAH WAH WAH we want to know how much"***** rubbish so self centred and ridiculous. There are MANY commercial reasons not to disclose even not considering the obvious contractual ones. Maybe Manly dont want it disclosed or as POM alluded to earlier, if we are using that money as an enticement for Penrith to let Laurie go early, why the hell would you let them know how much we got? Would totally destroy any negotiations.

Spot on mate... I think we have had a massive win here and people are still complaining.. People need to understand that the player we might of wanted from Manly might not of wanted to come here so we looked outside the box and got Joe O at a discounted rate for the next 2 years... We didn't need a swap with Manly to make it a good deal for us as we could of held firm for the next 12 months and lost JA for nothing... Thats right Nothing.. Now we get rid of him and the negative press it would of brought, get a SOO quality player at 25 yrs old and get 100k+ to put towards something else...
I am wrapped with the news today and even media guys out there are saying this was some smart business.
