Joel Clinton Returning To NRL?
Rumour Wests Tigers going after former Panthers' star Joel Clinton

Desperate for a front-rower after a series of injuries to their big men, the Wests Tigers are considering signing former Panthers premiership-winning prop Joel Clinton reports Sportal's The Lurker.

It's been a decade since Clinton helped Penrith win the 2003 grand final in a major upset over the Roosters and the big prop has had stints with the Broncos and Hull KR since then.

He's currently playing for Mackay Cutters in the Queensland Cup and is desperate for a return to the NRL.

Would be handy coming off the bench IMO. If Woods or Buchanan suffer an injury we are in deep crap.

Haven't seen or heard boo of him for years.

Will have to rely on those who have seen him play recently.

There is no way you could say yes/no based on how he played 5 years ago.

agree with ink , it just gets better every time we look at a player , wonder how potter would be feeling if true , great another hasbeen nobody wants but our club will go for it , ive got 16.00 dollars on me and that should pay him for 30 minutes on the field ,

Don't get angry it may just be a rumour…

You do wonder what Potter must have thought about the front row situation when he first got to the club.
''WTF was the last guy on'' maybe?

I always rated Clinton. Hard bugger ran like a freight train but just held his chin to high. Was at a game at Suncorp a few years ago where he got absolutely KOd.

My gut tells me he'd be more Mason than Cayless if we did sign him.

Its been a few good years since he had a play at NRL level though. My biggest concern would be is he still up to a week to week grind of training/playing?

benji a rumour is wests tigers talking to matt scott who want out of his current deal and to play for the tigers , this clinton thing is right up our ally could well be true , cant beleive there is not one player in this state we could get as a back up , sack Mcdonald and who ever is his side kick

gnr ,could you imagine potter when he getts here then groat goes down , buys Gavett , he goes down , now big red , then to top it off korro , watch the grey hair come rolling in

Wonder how long Ropati would be on the sidelines for if that tackle occurred this season.

I think that Clinton could be a good value purchase. Has a wealth of experience and was still providing some impact when he was at the Broncos a few years ago. He wouldn't be starting, but he could be a handy interchange player.

Come on guys. He'd be great. He's just come off a stretch of playing decent football in the ESL (like Sam Moa, Fa'alogo both are doing well). He's only 31 and many say that props peak at 30! This dude played for Australia too. He's always been better than Cashmere and he's younger than Cashy was when we called him out of the wilderness.

Have a think about it, at this stage in time we need a few minutes taken off the kids that is all. Its not rocket science, we need someone we can get on the park ASAP and isnt going to drag us into a long contract on big dollars. This isnt the time for knee-jerk signings for props, we need to be smart about this. The last thing we need is some fill-in who chomps up cash and roster space next year who doesnt really fit into the grand scheme.

Groat is due back soon, Gavet shouldnt be that long after… We just need someone to eat the minutes/metres and help rotate the young guys out with if they need a break. If we can nurture our young props through this season we will be all the better next yr, they wont charge us overs and will get the experience under their belts. We will be in good stead we just have to survive at present.
