Joey - 2019 v 2020

Joey's had maybe 2 decent games for us ...one was a trial

The other was other his brother was injured and he then got suspended cause he couldn't control himself

Was always going to be a risky signing and at this stage the risk hasn't paid off

One wonder how those stats compare with other centres in the game .....many would average over a hundred metres per game ...especially the ones with his size

I've said it before - the ONLY threat in our backline.

I think that says more about the current state of the Wests backline.

He needs a experienced partner alongside like he had at the Raiders.
There has been a lot of change to our backline this year so I think he has done ok.
I like a big body with power in our back line. We just need to compliment that with players around him. Combinations will come ..... give it time. Rome wasn’t built ......

I think he's gone as good as can be expected. And I agree with others that with a full pre-season and hopefully no more covid bubble he should do even better next year.

Can I make another comment though, just my humble opinion - even if he had been rubbish all season - I would want to shut down any talk of punting him. For the simple reason that WE MUST KEEP LUCY and I don't want to risk getting Lucy off side.

Doesn't matter. You fix the other 6 blokes before Joey.

BJ just doesn't get enough quality early ball. Our halves should be getting the ball to him everytime we get quick play the ball over the advantage line.the real problem is, our forwards rarely get over the advantage line or get a quick play the ball. Look at the penrith defense line speed on the weekend. It's no good throwing him the ball with defenders already in his face.
His work out of our own end is good. Runs it hard and usually gets a quick play the ball with defenders still on the ground. He isn't being used right.

And I can't believe the knocks Noffa gets on here. Head and shoulders our best this year, even given his defensive lapses. Only one in the team who has put in full shift every game. Hasn't taken a week off like many others have.

Nofo says hi ?

Not a threat. He is a hard worker and bullocking early-tackle runner, can find the try line when set up by others. Occasionally scores a solo try.

When he gets the ball in attack the opposition does not panic or send in multiple tacklers. Nofo does not trample defenders on his way to the line.

Still a threat whichever way you want to look at it ..
Nofoaluma is the comps leading try scorer but not a threat ?
He doesn’t need to trample defenders as he’s got better footwork than Joey .
Joey is a fat lazy ball hog with ? for brains and runs on a treadmill..

The dude is exactly what we have needed now we just need to GIVE him early ball.
He is literally our only attacking weapon and we hardly ever go to him.
He is literally in the top 5 centres every year. Unfortunate that we haven't used him well but he is still a beast and a match winner

Exactly. It’s pure madness from the halves not to give him early ball.

Him, garner and nofo on the one side should be carving teams.

I think he is our only dangerous player besides Nofo a.nd he doesn't get passed the ball enough, you dont need to set up plays just give him the ball alot, not that we set up plays around him either. We have no formation no clue. I blame the halves and 2nd row etc. He is being way underutilized by our team. Our whole team is also so flat, watching Melbourne with players running decoy and formations i was like damn, i wish we at least tried those things. I dont blame him at all I think was our best signing in years. Just barely being used.

Maybe we need an attack coach, and a defense coach.

I still remember those heady days when Robert Jennings scored 20 tries in a season!

Nofo is *equal* leading try-scorer. His peers are Stephen Crichton, Sharks Sione Katoa and Alex Johnston. Of all of those players, I only consider Crichton a legitimate threat. The others are good at finding the line when given opportunity. Kyle Feldt has 13 tries, don't consider him a mad threat either.

Nofo's footwork? His feet are all over the place and often sideways, his strength is his ability to shrug off tacklers, not step around or through them.

I'm not getting into the bloke, I think he's having a career-best season and I like a lot of what he does, but I don't think oppositions train during the week to nullify the attacking threat of David Nofoaluma, nor do they swarm him when he gets the football. They don't yell out his name in warning when he sniffs around the football.

BJ Leilua might be a meathead, but when he gets the ball, you watch the opposition defenders all focus on him en masse.

Similar stats to last year at Canberra, but remember on those stats and attitude Sticky wanted him gone and was willing to subsidize his departure.
Give him some decent ball and Momo's smarts and we'd be onto a winner.
