If it was so simple, why didn't the official release from the club give some clearer indication. Their marque player who just came off a month stint for a brain explosion into a team that got lapped the week before with the season on the line an spiraling towards another early exit to the season...and that's the official statement? I dont buy it and if you are honest most would not buy it either. What, super critical family emergency can be solved with a quick trip to the ACT? and get back? If it really was just to drive his wife, that's not good enough and to me is another alarm bell that the guy is a dud.
These are extraordinary times and a lot of people are making extraordinary sacrifices. I'd be happy if the club dropped him for the week. His brother is the decent player anyways.
It was really that simple, he relocated his family to Canberra on Wednesday afternoon, returned to Sydney on Thursday morning. All this was done with club knowledge.
Was the club told prior to him leaving the bubble or after the fact?
From everything I have read, seen or heard the club was aware of the situation and are supportive of Joey.
It needs to be remembered that these are different times at the moment, players are not allowed to have people come to their house. That means that support their family members may have been getting from extended family is now unavailable, player can not have their mother inlaw come stay at their house to help out with the kids, which may have been a regular occurence in the past. It is not only players having to live under strict protocols but the rest of their families as well. I'd be disappointed if our club made a decision not to support a player who is just looking out for his family. He now spends the next month or so living by himself away from his kids, give the guy a bit of a break.
Cool, link me to where the club knew? the two official statements didn't say that. Either Media Guy really screwed up on the press release or worded it so it was up for debate. My guess is the latter.
Again, looking after his family? in what way? what do we know? All we actually know is the guy went against very clear instructions to protect a billion dollar business so i hope it was worth it, and i get that money is not everything but i bet it was important in the discussions to move to the club.
As for not having visitors making it hard for the players. Jesus. Sums up the club really. Anyways we all support the same club and want the same result, I'm just gunna slide out of this thread.
Go tigers.
I actually linked that yesterday, this quote actually states that he told officials and has since retuned to Canberra. The use of the word since indicates that was after the club was made aware.
"News Corp has learnt Leilua told officials on Wednesday he had to leave the bubble for family reasons.
It is understood he has since returned to be with his extended family in Canberra."
huh? come on man No it doesn't lol?
Correct release if they were aware and wanted to seem in control of the situation
*"Joey spoke to the club about the need to leave the COVID bubble in the early morning of Wednesday to address urgent family matters in ACT. The club liaised directly with Apollo and given the extenuating circumstances permission was granted"*
Club that found out after he has left:
"*Having voluntarily left the club’s bubble, Leilua will be placed in a temporary COVID hold as per NRL guidelines.
Wests Tigers have informed the Project Apollo Group and will await further advice after consideration of all circumstances"*
The fact! that the club said he would be in a covid hold and then the same day says he's cleared shows you they had no idea.
