John Bateman #268

I’ll tell you something about John Bateman! He is up there with one of the most INSPIRATIONAL players I’ve seen play the game.

I’ve followed his career ever since it first started! Just an out and out footballer. Ridiculously fit, will play all day. Has no quit in him whatsoever - The Bradford Terrier. He’s just a Winner. Takes losing to heart. When the going gets tough, when the game is in the trenches he will physically find a way to drag his teammates out 9 times out of 10. Not surprised one bit by his performance or stats tonight! Just another regular Johnny Bateman showing: 15 runs 122 metres, 47 tackles, 3 offloads, 4 tackle breaks, 1 line break and 1 try! Feel so sorry for him tonight, deserved the W - that game would have changed our season.

One of the biggest factors in our total loss of form has been his inept play at lock. He looks awful there and I thought he was going surprisingly well at 2nd row. So this move has seriously damaged both our middle defence and edge by turning a strength player into a liability, as well as jumbling our attack by having his off the cuff play as the centre of our ball movement. He looks confused, tired and understrength, and that was before he went to England.

Hopefully this result at least leads to him moving back to 2nd row. You could see why they tried it, but time for it to stop.

Agreed. The change to lock after the Raiders game has just been awful for us. Put him back into the 2nd row where he was doing well and tighten those edges defensively like they had been. Hope they give Matamua a chance at 13 as that ball playing lock and put Blore on the bench to come on and play in the middle.

He was disgraceful tonight, mind you there were at least a dozen who were worse. A flogging like that would normally be a coach killer but not with this mob.

You do realise that would mean Sheens admitting he was wrong so it is fairly unlikely to happen.

Right edge Back rower all day long
sheens Special to play him out of position
Get it right the club put him there , after there terrible decision to let joffa go and no plan to bring in a lock , and the reason we did it , who the hell knows , we have that much cap space and nothing happening

But it was the coaches that didn't want him. This one wasn't simply cooked up by Pascoe and Lee.

I bloody wish Sheensy would play them in the correct position.. pole was going great, moved to the bench .. toa killed it at centre , moved to 5/8 Blore moved from edges to lock , Joffa moved on for no reason .. it’s starting to do my head in.. Tallyn last night started to get the attack going and he was hooked .. they have no idea
