John Bateman #268

[Halbrowne61]

Not too concerned if it is just a month. If it’s another Reynolds, Ballin, McQueen, Packer, Matulino, Maumalo debacle, explain to me when do the serious questions get asked? Are we doing any due diligence?

But it shouldn’t be a month, that’s my point.
We paid big bucks for this guy, suffered through the visa hassles and now, “oh he’s possibly out for a month”.
We need to hit the ground running with our best 13 available. We seem to have crocks everywhere , Brooks, Joffa , others, now Bateman.
Our new fix it team will be working overtime.

He was always going to be underdone mate and I hope it’s just a bit of a story to give him a chance to get fully fit. If it’s a chronic ankle injury then it’s just another classic WT F-up

Bit hard to do a fitness test from overseas. I’m in the minority here, I’m glad we are taking these things serious and under the management of the club.
We’ve come a long way since players had to get their own rehab and Braith had to bring in his own Strapping tape.

I'm with you also
It won't hurt to give him the few weeks off to get it right.

If I’m investing $3.2 million in a guy I’m finding a way to get a proper medical done. Don’t care if the player is in Antarctica.

I do hope it’s nothing serious as I think it’s a good signing if he gets on the field.

Red flags everywhere with Bateman. Plenty convincing themselves othewise, but 4 years with anything over 500k plus the 250 k transfer has got risk written all over it and one that we seemed to be the only club that thought it was worth taking. Will look forward to be being proved wrong.

From what i have been told the figure is close to 750k per year,so 3 million over 4 years plus the 250k transfer.

I would have thought he has had plenty of time to get the ankle looked at while he was awaiting the visa debarcle...He has said he has done plenty of training back home, and now we have him out with a CHRONIC ankle injury...something doesnt add up to me,if I was given an incredible contract back in the NRL I would have had the anckle looked at BEFORE I got here...

Muamalo and matulino were/are better than anything else we could have fielded even injured and played through it

I agree, neither of those players deserve to be listed among those other names because both of them have been very professional in their dealings with the club

[Tim Sheens]

Disappointed to hear of a possible niggling injury, as I expected Bateman to be playing on Sunday.

[Elderslie_Tiger]

Chairman Lee on SEN calling BS on injury reports on Bateman advised he had scans prior to signing and everything was OK has since has had further scans upon arrival in Australia and all OK.He needs time to acclimatise is a little under done and needs a week prior to taking the field.

People have an interesting memory of Matulino. Only played 36 games for us. Maumalo toughed it out last year but appears we bought another lemon.

Clearly arrived with pretty major pre existing injuries and that’s why I put them in there.

[old_man_tiger]

Lee said on SEN this morning that he underwent / cleared a full medical before he was signed....
Isn't playing this week while he acclimatises.... And that's about it.

He seemed fed up with the club being called incompetent didn't he?

Hope he’s correct.

We get an opportunity to show that our competence has improved Sunday.

[Bones]

At this point but James is not available until round 10. James to me offers more to the team for a 20 minute burst than Twal does.

I think Twal is the perfect guy to bring on after 20 minutes to keep our middle tight at the back end of the half. We have had major issues conceding tries either side of half time and he is probably one of our best middle defenders.

The final paragraph is disappointing

It’s one of the toughest sports there is, it would be irresponsible to play him yet.
