John Bateman #268

I’m ok with Sheens taking his time with Bateman , media would be all over him and us if he goes out underdone ,and is not up to speed on our players , if the rest of the guys perform starting today and get a win Bateman in round 4 should be no issue , don’t panic people and for god sake don’t listen to Kent and others , they didn’t know shit and are only speculating due to club giving them nothing
 
So an underdone seasoned international is not selected on the bench ahead of a player on debut in a game we really need to win. Injured I get underdone pfft.

Why would there be any reason for the club to panic? There isn’t one. Head coach is contracted for 23/24, with replacement coach having a 2 year internship before taking on a 5 year lucrative deal.
CEO and Chair have a secure portfolio of “all care and no responsibility.”
If there is any panic, it would obviously come from the elected board members. Definitely not from any of the players who have been numbed by the 5 home grounds and a kick in the arse.

I heard Sheens say he won't play reserve grade. It does my head in. It's like there is something wrong with playing reserve grade but the best way to get that fitness and timing etc is to play a game.

It’s not a good look to pay over $1m for an international to run around in reserves.
Shows how much the club is reacting to criticism from journos.

I had a laugh when Sheens had a dig at the 360 guys in his presser yesterday. Despite him saying he’s too old to care what people think, the media has clearly pissed him off with this

The idea is to get him playing to his best and then hopefully the team benefits. I don't get the idea of not competing in reserve grade.

It's a 4 year contract and I doubt it's a $1m a season.

Sheens made that pretty clear. I want him ready and I don't want him played too early and for him to have a shocker.

I just don't get why you don't play him in reserves for 20 minutes or so just to get him up to speed.

I'm not the coach and to be fair I don't really care so long as this guy turns into a quality player for us and not a dud contract.

He hadn’t trained/competed in a team environment for four months and has been training with us for less than two weeks.

Can someone explain why there’s shock behind him not playing right now?

There’s a reason teams have full pre-seasons before they ease into trial matches.

People also leave out the fact that Tuqiri played his last game of Union the week before he played his first game for us.

Bateman hasn’t played for four months and has been training with the team for a total of thirteen days.

I get this. I just don't get why you wouldn't play him in reserve grade even for a small period.

Sure he isn't going to be up to speed but he'll get it back and gain confidence if he can perform in reserves.

In saying that it's not a big deal. The issue is that he is a risky contract and we need him to be a weapon. If that happens I don't care if he misses 8 weeks.
