I wouldn't be too worried about what Joey thinks. Great footballer but hardly a scholar for the game. He should shut his mouth and count himself lucky he even has a job in league after his escapades off the field.

Personally don't think his extra curricular activities have anything to do with it.

They should have plenty to do with it. His extra curricular activities probably don't involve business or financial management.

We'll be safe
We always come ninth

Weakest or poorest
Obviously those clubs with the lowest supporter base are in trouble if we don't change things

And what needs to change is the contract values that some of these players are getting
These players are getting paid way to much and things need to change
Reduce the cap amount so it doesn't create financial stress on the NRL or the individual clubs
That is most important now
Then let each player obtain their own sponcership for extra funds completely seperated to league
I just don't see anything wrong with this
If I wanted Brooks or Marshall to promote my company and I was willing to pay them what is wrong with that
It wasn't that long ago that league players had to have a second job to survive
So why can that second job be promotional work
Who does it hurt by doing this

Get famous by playing rugby league
Use your fame to get paid promotional work outside of football

Maybe each player could have a space on their jersey to promote a company that sponcers them only
The player or their manager can negotiate the sale of this designated space
That sponcership money can go direct to that player

Anyway that's just a few ideas
League will survive
So will Wests Tigers

I can think of 5 teams with more issues than the Tigers. Manly, Cronulla, Canterbury, Parramatta and Gold Coast. Financially they are all struggling.

I think Joey has coached the halves in 3 of those teams.

I agree with him. A 12 team national comp with the kiwis and a strong Sydney and Brisbane comp.

You wouldn't get the money from broadcast rights..not that I think it will be as great next time but they are the on'e who want a 16 or more team comp...6 games a week won't cut it for them either..

Do they, or will they , still want 8 games? Ch9 only broadcast three atm and who knows how fox will be positioned after this. They've already cut super rugby.

Fox will..they pay the most and broadcast All games..any reduction will see them losing subscribers ..

As for 9..who ever thought they would lose cricket but that happened...lose league as well especially Origin they be relying on MAFS

I think origin could go to a major streaming Corp ... I reckon Amazon prime would be interested to entrench itself here ..they have NFL !

NRL need sto be on free to air and fox not streaming on amazon prime etc if we lose a free to air component we become like rugby.

CBS has NFL and owns ch10 also have read 7 are also interested ..Imo there are free to air avenues that the Nrl can explore I would call 9s
Bluff ..

Call their bluff? I'd tell them to shove it up their ass.

Yes because the best way to save a competition in crisis is to permanently lose 4 more sets of fans...

I couldnt agree more i have known about 10 people who have lost their clubs Norths/Newtown and not one of them follows the game at all now. Most supporters will not find another club to support the same as not all Balmain/Wests supporters followed us after the merger

The game lost Newtown fans but gained Brisbane, Newcastle, Townsville, Auckland and so on on fans. If you can't afford to go on then that's tough

Why would you give preference to a Kiwi side in place of an Australian one?
They can have their own comp - maybe Melbourne can be in it with them.

Over say Cronulla? The warriors are more likely to survive IMO.

I’d boot the Warriors out before any Australian team. At present it’s the NRL - not the IRL.

Interestingly he mentioned kids are not playing league or other sports as much as when we and he were kids...theres a very simple answer...they are more interested in xbox and p/s with their mates on the weekends...Ive seen it first hand with my partners young bloke...and they are getting lazier and fatter..
Its the way of the modern world and new technology...
feel free to tell me Im wrong...I don't think so though if you look ay junior sports they are dwindling at a very fast rate....this is my opinion only...

I think you're completely right mate. I was trying to talk to my 18 year old boy about the seriousness of this corona virus, and about how he needs to be putting money aside as may lose his job. I was trying to scare him and let him know the gravity of the situation, by saying that certain things will change. Electricity and internet strength for one may not always suffice to play the games he likes to, and his response to that was her wouldn't be able to cope with no internet. I told him not to be so silly (he's 18, often silly) but he honestly could not conceive of a world where he can't play online.

Yet we created this world for him, or at least are complicit in allowing it to advance to this point, so we cannot complain.

As for team dying on the vine, my Balmain juniors club wound up decades ago and in reality, it is just part of change, with something almost certain having to give club wise at this time.

Hello and Welcome to Wests Tigers new owner
Harry " The King" Triguboff

He would be feeling this at the moment, given most hotels are closed

So further expansion and more clubs is the answer then ?

NRL and clubs need to reduce costs
There is no doubt about that

Just like any other business in this world
Shutting down certain stores is the beginning of the end

I for one wouldn't follow another team
Those who follow and love rugby league would already support a team
Introducing a new team wouldn't increase the supporter base, it would strip supporters from other clubs.
Put it this way
Imaging introducing a second Brisbane team
Would they get a whole new crowd of supporters to rugby league or would most supporters come from existing Broncos supporters

Cut overheads

Reduce the amount of stadiums we play out of
Maybe one central stadium in Sydney ( in time of course) when current contracts expire

Cap player contracts

Reduce the team salary cap

Allow individual player sponcership which will also drive an individual player to strive to become a better player so his asking price for sponcership will also rise as he becomes that better or elite player

There are many ways to make NRL more sustainable
Reducing clubs is not one

Doubt he would be shooting his mouth off, if one of the 4 clubs to be given the flick was Newcastle.

I agree - 3 or 4 Years ago, you wouldn't have heard a peep from Johns about culling clubs. His was dead in the water.

I think it’s time to let it all die including the NRL. it’s time to start planning for the future with an inaugural board of the South Pacific Rugby League. Start planning now for a new and exciting 2021 competition . Why empty the bank account trying to keep the ship afloat when we should take advantage of this opportunity for change and build a bigger better ship?
