He wanted to get out of the deal, but had waited until the cooling off period had passed. WT wanted to retain him, but were not given he opportunity to do so without paying too much out to Melbourne from an already blown cap and with whom WT subsequently attempted to negotiate a deal.
Anyhow, carry on ranting and don't let any facts get in the way of a player that I also wanted to retain.
Yep thats how I understand it all took place. If JAC wanted to stay, which everybody claims, then he simply jumped too early.
I also suggest everyone see where JAC is in 12 months time to see whether he is a loss. Still has defensive deficiencies and errors in his game. I would have liked to have kept, as was the case with Koro.
I agree. Some people have such short timeframes for making absolute calls on players. Chris Lawrence was the next big thing, then became the big thing, then stopped being the big thing, you can't make such summary judgements over footballers based on a few rounds.
If JAC plays a whole good season without being found out, then yes, laud the performance. But also beware the first-year syndrome where players make an impact until teams develop strategies against them.
That is harsh on Lawrence it was a terrible injury which downgraded him to what he is now. However i do wish he would retire as he is no longer first grade standard because of that
