I’m only mentioning it because of today’s news about McIntyre. There has to be some sort of disconnect between Management and Coach because Josh has always had a great relationship with Madge. Maybe Hartigan is realising when you’re not at the Chooks, things work differently

I get he has a young family and needs his future secured , but seriously , most on here in the lockdown period were saying “who cares “ . I didn’t agree , but , that was the common sentiment about josh . I was stoked he took the step up this year , But he’s hardly been a world beater prior to this . I get your point , but I don’t think it’s disloyalty , considering how average we’ve been for so long .

So your saying - he signs for a 10% increase so he can prove next season he is worth a lot more, trouble is he will still be on a pittance.

Think it would be wise for him to sign for a better deal with Manly (a club that obviously wants him) and prove to the Tigers they were absolutely wrong - like they were about Tapau, Sironen and Suli.

Don't want to see him go but know what it's like to work for a place that doesn't want you. Not good.

I watched every game the guy played for the Magpies and he was lucky to be picked each week. He was inadequate in all aspects. Alex Seyfarth (who none of the casuals on here ever mention) on the other hand just needs to develop his body and he could be special.

I watched every game the guy played for the Magpies and he was lucky to be picked each week. He was inadequate in all aspects. Alex Seyfarth (who none of the casuals on here ever mention) on the other hand just needs to develop his body and he could be special.

I rate both McIntyre and Seyfarth. McIntyre will go well on the GC being part of a good pack. Seyfarth has loads of ability.

Madge did none of the main recruiting at Souths. Hartigan was an absolute no one at the Roosters ....do you really think anyone other than Politis and Robinson did their recruiting?

We have serious issues that need to be addressed in terms of retention and recruitment. I admire fans like you who only want to see good, but there comes a time when we need to realise stuff is wrong.

I have a mate who has been involved with the club and sponsored it for decades who basically got auto replies on emails and never assisted for ages and now is giving up.

You don't treat people like this and expect loyalty back.

Regardless of value, you don't treat a bloke who busted his butt all year for us like this also . One of the only ones who did.

By offering him a contract ? WE CAME 11th !!! And everyone talks about how many metres said player got . Cool . How many tries were scored against us in the middle third ? I’ll tell you .... a bucket load . Every single player , in our squad who wasn’t signed after December last year (excluding BJ because he needs to lift ) has to be put on notice . That crap we offered up in the last 10 rounds was by and large , WEAK! I know guys put in , but it cannot be tolerated , and everyone needs to be put on notice . You can start making demands and big contracts when we win. If you’re here on a big contract , hopefully it meant you won here or Somewhere else .

Dude , I don’t see the disrespect though , if we are just talking about the money .He was offered a 10% pay rise , in which he played well this year , except he got injured ..... again .
The issue I have is the 24 hr thing . Like what the actual . I get trying to portray a hard nosed negotiation tactic , but like you said it’s hugely disrespectful, and never ever works . I think we agree on that part .
The money side is , not IMO. Which is why I said , if it was me and I was happy , and saw myself as a forward leader, and truely didn’t want to leave , I’d back myself . It’s a risk for sure , but if the money was there today , and I play better next year , it will definitely be there and then some this time next year .
Which goes to job security . It’s smarter to take the money on the table and leave . But as of right now , Josh Aloai is not worth 500k+.
Also if the tigers match that , and Blore and Luciano kill it again next year , what are they worth ? What if stefano lifts to his projected value , of 800k if he hits his potential . Or even Zane Musgrove , who doesn’t have the consistency of josh , but could be anything .
Isn’t there some tearaways coming through that we pinched from the eels and dogs . Are they projected to be better players come 2022?
Like someone mentioned , to me , it reeks of analytics. But doesn’t mean Hartigan needs to be a douchebag .

Just for some perspective, if they are offering Josh $350K then the 10% counter-offer is $35K. Can anyone here imagine being offered a $35K pay increase in a single contract negotiation cycle?

Even $250K would be a $25K hike.

We have to also remember that the NRL are proposing a salary cap reduction of $1M from 2021 in order to save jobs in the game. I haven't seen if the proposal has been ratified, but they were talking about 10% reduction in player salaries moving forward.

I'm sure Josh is finding it challenging, any of us would. I also suspect if the club did indeed put a 24h deadline on him, they either think they have the upper hand (wrt Aloiai having other options) or they've hit their ceiling and can't offer him any more money.

I recall very many fans on here calling for the club to place deadlines / ultimatums on potential signings that have dragged on and they may actually have done it here.

I also wonder personally - a bloke like Josh, he wasn't signed on by Madge or Hartigan. They obviously value him enough to offer re-signing, but they are judging him on revised expectations, not the ones of his original recruiters. For a team that's failing to make the finals year on year, it would be great to keep guys like Aloiai and Huth and Sam Mc, but the reality is they aren't taking us to the next level, right?

Maybe players should stop the old " I'm putting it in the hands of my manager" if they don't like the outcome of negotiations. Let's not forget it's in the managers best interest for Josh to take the deal at Manly. Who are they really working for?

@russell I guess that last 10 weeks infuriated me . Mainly because I thought the defensive issues , which is mostly mental and effort IMO, had been weeded out first through cleary then through Madge . Most people get upset about attack , but for me , I’d be happy if we won 12-8 every week . I love attack sure , but I love winning more , and watching a team who love the jersey as much as well all do . That to me wasn’t presented the last 10 rounds .
And I’m usually the guy who’s all about loyalty . And I still am . But that really grounded my gears , so much I didn’t watch a second of any other NRL .In saying all that though , you still have to treat people with dignity and respect Especially when yours and their evaluations are worlds apart .

His contract is modest, 10% is measly. And after November 1 he realised how much other clubs valued him

I didn't watch many Magpies games but this was my impression from the few I saw. McIntyre though really played well last year and he did it in the top grade.

Round 16 v Penrith - 53 mins, 7 runs only 37 metres. 39 tackles but he missed 6! WORST IN TEAM.
Round 17 v Manly - 33 mins. 7 runs 65 metres. Only 15 tackles buT 2 INNEFECTIVE.
Round 18 v Rabbits- 38 min. 8 runs 64 metres. 23 tackles but 2 MISSED. WORST OF THE FORWARDS.
Round 19 v Melbourne- 14 mins. 0 runs! 12 tackles 1 MISSED.

Bloke was defensively weak passenger and a plodding passenger in attack. Just as he was every game he played for the Magpies. He's not up to first grade.

Thing is... it isn't really tough decisions that led to losing Mac and potentially Aloiai.

The Tigers wanted to keep both, and thought they had both. But completely bombed negotiations, according to whats being said around here.

Also like to add that Mac has actually shown a lot more than the highly touted Seyfarth.
