Josh Aloiai #190

Good news. I'm particularly impressed with Pascoe's comments about Aloiai's commitment to the tiger's community programs.

Well timed..hopefully this Back Rower Unfiltered turns out better..

A good way to end the day, glad Josh has re-signed. Looking forward to seeing the improvement in him this year with a decent off-season under his belt.

Good signing, in a position we are weak in. Strong guy that had a solid start in NRL. Hope he continues to develop in the 2nd row.

Very good signing 3 years would have been smarter however, can't complain.

Aloiai in his first year in the NRL held his own and improved as the season went along.
I think this kid will be a fixture in our back row for many years to come. I think he plays right edge defending near Moses and Idris with Sue in the middle as lock. ET plays Left Edge with Simona and Brooks.

It's effectively 3 years with this season not having started yet.

Yes this is good to see and his talk is strong and full of merit. Word be nice to see a few more given contracts before round 1\. Now is that only 20 off contract now Buzz!!!

Hope this kid keeps developing and improving as he did last year.
Seems very genuine about loving the club and has a good head on his shoulders.

Congratulations Josh on signing with WT for a further 2 seasons. I hope you have a fantastic career ahead. :righton:
Good work Wests Tigers on signing this young bloke, he seems a very humble likeable kid with a great future. :wahoo:

I can't imagine anyone not agreeing that this is a really good result for the Tigers. Good on him and well done club. Distinct possibility of a future club leader there I reckon.

Good on him, and well done to the club. Really likable young bloke and always improving.

How good is this quote:
"I’m just really thankful because I honestly love coming to training every day,I love turning up with the players and the staff at the Club"

Great signing for the club,he loves it here and he must be happy to be coached by JT,otherwise he would have gone elsewhere..
It does appear that maybe JT can coach and the critics will have to wait for some other reason to bag the coach this year…..nodoubt they can't wait...!!!!

He was already contracted for 2017 its a 2 year extension.

I realise that, but he's still here for the next 3 seasons.

Wests’ Tigers Josh Aloiai praises God’s grace and hard work for fantastic first season

Eliza Barr, Liverpool Leader
February 13, 2017 12:00am

GRACE and hard work is the recipe to Wests’ Tigers star Josh Aloiai’s success.

The backrower is the only player in Wests’ Tigers history to play every single match in his debut NRL season, which was last year.

At the conclusion of a tough training session in almost 40-degree temperatures at Concord Oval, Aloiai still believes he is lucky.

“I never take days like this for granted,” Aloiai said.

“If it wasn’t for my relationship with Jesus I wouldn’t be here, it’s only by his grace — grace and hard work.”

Aloiai started playing rugby league when he was just six, falling in love with the game he says they play in heaven.

“It became more serious for me when I was 14 or 15,” Aloiai said.

“A rugby league career was something I had prayed about since I was young, and God had a plan even though I had a lot of doubts.”

Aloiai moved to Liverpool from Auckland when he began his career with the Parramatta Eels, before signing with the Tigers in 2014.

“When I first moved here I was really, really homesick,” Aloiai said.

“My family lives here and were amazing in that time, helping me get settled in my home and my church.”

Understandably, Aloiai was excited to revisit his former stomping ground with the Tigers’ Auckland Nines team in New Zealand last weekend.

“I used to play at Eden Park with the Glenora Bears,” Aloiai said.

“All my immediate family is back there in Auckland, and I don’t see them that often now I’m here — I’m lucky to get back and visit.”

Aloiai scored a try against the Melbourne Storm, but the Tigers only triumphed over the Brisbane Broncos after going down to the Storm and Newcastle Knights.

The Auckland Nines is only the start of a big season for Aloiai as he seeks to build on his stellar 2016 performance.

He ran 1550m and made 426 tackles over 24 matches last year.

“I had a difficult pre-season with a broken jaw,” Aloiai said.

“Most of my goals for this season are team focused — we just want to play good footy, and it would be really special to make the eight.”

Aloiai will be with the Tigers until at least the end of 2017, striving for success alongside teammates who have also become friends.

“The boys are amazing — it’s a diverse side, lots of different cultures, personalities and senses of humour,” Aloiai said.

“I love being here with the Tigers.”

Wests Tigers kick off their season against South Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Friday, March 3.
