Josh Feledy #274

He was 18 at the time ..which i appreciate is young to make your debut against a tough opponent …. I just hope he continues to improve ..and is not too far away from NRL consideration… they need to be confident about that happening next year
In my opinion he could play in Magic Round and be a slightly better attacking option than Olam. Obviously Olam’s hard hitting defence and fearless yardage carries are something not many can replicate.

Absolutely terrible contract decisions … every player is literally signed at least one year too long … the old regime must have been seen as a soft touch by the Player Managers
Huge issue for us and I think its hard because you need to sign these kids not knowing how they will trend through Ball and Cup. Many of them Feledy, Tumeth, Miller included were all much more developed physically at Matts level and because they are more physically developed at that younger age we rush to sign them before they are poached by other clubs.

Kids get signed because they are physically bigger at 15/16 and fizzle out as soon as other kids catch up at 17+. This has been happening forever at the Tigers we lost smaller set players like Papenhuyzen a few years ago and recently Alex Conti who played every Ball game in the halves for the Dogs this year because many thought him to be on the smaller side. Skills pay the BILLS! I cant complain too much though Parra did us a favour with Galvin doing the exact same thing.

Issue is when they get to SG Ball level other kids are catching up physically and ability wise and then it looks like we jumped the gun in signing these kids to Top 30 deals. Luke Lualili and Makeseni are in the same boat both physically dominant younger and the catch up will begin from Ball level up.

Our Wests SG Ball side were at full strength in many games this year and on paper you'd think they would walk through teams and it wasn't the case. Now players like Miller, Kit Lualili, Tumeth are taking up valuable Top30 spots for depth and they are simply either not ready yet or are no chance in being selected ever. This type of junior recruitment really hurts our NRL team.

They did sign Feledy from Manly juniors … as I mentioned … he had some wraps on him at the time….. that was over two years ago… and I think it’s fair to say he hasnt come along as well as they would have hoped though …

Tumeth I know nothing about .. but it seems he is on the scrapheap .. Miller is still young right …and he is a prop so he will take longer to develop …

You raise some good points and it’s fair to say all the players you have named would have signed elsewhere iff Wests Tigers did not give them top 30 contracts.
Miller has made a massive improvement playing NSW Cup which is a surprise to me as he was terrible playing SG Ball this season.
Tumeth and Kit both look like they need a bit more time to mature and redefine their games, both have talent it’s just a matter of whether or not we have the patience to wait.
There is no easy way around it as when you start losing your best emerging juniors, it creates uncertainty for the next crop, but the flip side in the cases of Conti and Nasser, they also expect upgraded contracts before they are ready and leave if the club doesn’t give in to their demands.
Conti may have made a GF at the Bulldogs, but his halves partner is their Golden Child and will always be considered as the Bulldogs priority.
Had Conti stayed with Wests Tigers he would have been starting for our successful Jersey Flegg side by now and Nasser would have also been given far better opportunities than what he’s getting at the Roosters.

Tumeth is 22 …and has played one NRL game over a year ago … he is seemingly never considered for NRL selection and he is not signed for next year … I would be extremely surprised if he is extended and is part of their plans next year ..

Miller is starting in koe already.could possibly be ready for bench spot in fg later this year.Hes coming along nicely.

Yeah still needs to drop about 10kg IMO. His attack is great but in defence he'll get caught out laterally much the same way as Tuki Simpkins did. I think this year might be too early for NRL.
I think you're right. he needs a bit more time to build the motor and shed the kilos. getting him playing 55-60 week to week in Cup and then springboarding into a massive preseason might be the perfect way to get him right.

Miller has just turned 19 and is starting and is damaging in nsw cup. Think he is showing great development for his age.

Luke Lauliii has been impressive in nsw cup despite being just 18

Lachlan Galvin is playing great in NRL at just 18.

Matamua is only 20 and has been our best nsw cup forward this year.

Kit, Faagutu, Feledy, Latu Fainu are all showing potential

Our development is doing well just needs time.

how much longer ? Next year?

I was hoping they could be pushing for the Top 8 next year … Im gunna say …it seems unlikely if the plan is these guys who still seem some way from regular NRL ( Galvin the exception )

Potential means you haven’t done anything yet…

he ain't...Tigers were hoping someone would pick him up this year and free a spot

Tumeth has a Player Option contract for next year, so hopefully Richo can get him to reconsider as in my opinion he is taking up a valuable spot that won't have him see first grade at the Tigers again.

I gather the plan is to give the likes of Feledy, Kit, Tallyn, Faagutu, Jordan, Mason, Willett, Saukuru & Luke L as much time in NSW Cup this season to get them used to playing bigger bodies & higher quality comp. If their form & fitness warrants NRL this season then they'll get an opportunity.

I reckon over the coming weeks if not from this week, we may see Saukuru and/or Willett in Cup for the first time.
looking forward to seeing willet again he is a good prospect as a winger in the next year or 2
