28 of the eventual 30 will All have been recruited re-signed/extended by the current recruitment team..

Not his team won't fly in 21...

How many of them actually signed from outside tigers? Sometimes you re-sign guys because there’s no better options like Seyfarth. Obviously he should get them performing but I still don’t think we will make the 8 next season.

Doubt Reynolds money is used for much good anyway considering how little options there are on the player market at the moment

Still have to have time to replace that player... otherwise, it is wasted cap, and it the same as having Reynolds

There’s very little on the market too. It won’t make a difference to our 2021 campaign at all most likely. Still an average roster overall.

How many signed outside the Wests Tigers?

Douiehi, Kapaoa, Leilua x2, Ofahengaue, Tamou, Musgrove, Simpkin, Roberts, Utoikamanu, Blore, Walters...about half

Less than half, and a couple of them rookies. Still a roster hamstrung by issues of the past. Obviously Madge needs to work with what he’s got but 2022 is still the big year where he will have a lot more choice in the squad. It’ll be interesting to see how the squad goes next season, they could kill it or they could flop imo

Nope. This is his team now.

Definitely more so than last year, but not completely imo. Still no excuse not to get them going though, work with what you’ve got. Like I said if we play our best every week, we will make the 8.

How many coaches have completely their team? Stuff all. I like the team he’s put together but it’s on him now. No more excuses.

Your still looking at
Packer $700'000
Mbye $800'000 ?
Reynolds $700'000
Thats a total of $2'200'000 cap money tied up which is not Madges doing
Almost a quarter of our cap
Its not Madges team till he rids us of these players and this burden on our cap
(Sure we can keep Mbye but certainly not on the $ he is on)
Then and only then can he be held accountable for our teams performance
Even then if we are subsidising players like Reynolds it may restrict us on who we can sign
Also the very best players that Madge may wish to sign may not be off contract when we have the money to spend
Much of these signing descisions come down to timing
At the end of the day I would like to see Madge here to complete his team rebuild for another 3 years
2 to complete his team and 1 to prove without a doubt as to what he can do with the team
I have been impressed with who things are going at our club
I think we can all see how things are working out and there is definitely reason to be optimistic about our chances over the next few years
Well done to the entire board at The West Tigers
But the job is not complete yet

Finally
I would love Madge to stay if we can from this day forward continue to climb the ladder to a premiership
Slip down the ladder and the pressure will certainly be on him to keep his job
But IMOP he is safe for another 2 to 3 years at this stage
Till the team is truly his

Nah he has as much his team now as most other coaches. If we cop a hiding this year and do nothing it’s on him. This roster is good enough to do something.

Have to disagree, we have done the best we can in limited circumstances but our side still doesn’t stack up with the good sides on paper for the reasons outlined. I believe Madge will need 3 years to get this side competing consistently.

Disagree, I think our lineup is substantially better than 2019 when we came 9th. No more excuses, time to start winning.

I don't think top 8 is an iron clad requirement next year, but it is definitely a possibility if things fall our way.

Perhaps not but there should be a hell of a lot of improvement on this year.

Is our roster really that much better? We’ve only got 4 new guys in the team and two of them have not been playing well and one is an unproven rookie. If they all perform at their best it’ll improve us but I feel like that’s unlikely.

I’m not trying to make excuses I just don’t feel like that on paper our roster is all that much better than last year. It’s very contingent on all the new guys playing their best and the old guys all improving. That’s on the coaching staff and the players themselves to do that, if they can then we will shock plenty of people that’s for sure

Name who in our 2019 team would start ahead of our 2021 team.

Unfortunately we’re not up against an earlier version of ourselves, we’re playing teams stacked with established rep stars.

Pretty sure those teams were stacked with established rep stars in 2019 too.

True and we finished 9th, it was a lousy day on the hill at Leichhardt, looking at our roster, I don’t feel we can expect much better (yet, 2022 we have a war chest and hopefully a long term coach)

That’s my point, the teams then are still great, but we’ve improved. Not saying we’ll make the 8, but we need to improve on this year. Our roster is better.

The concern with the squad is our spine is unproven. Simpkin, Douihei, Laurie, Brooks.
Our outside backs are a lottery Jet, BJ, Kepoa,Talau. We have one proven second rower in Leilua who has had one good season. Our front row is probably the safest bet with Tamou, Ofehengaue, Twal, Musgrove and some youngsters in Utoikamanu and Mikalele.

We have potential and I like what is happening. I back Madge to get players that suit his style and improve the team.

I was comparing to last year. To 2019 it’s better, and to last year it’s a little better, at the very least we are improving a little every year. Problem is other teams are improving too ? why can’t they stay the same and let us get better

I’m hoping for consistency in effort next year. If we sneak into the eight I’ll be doing cartwheels

Me too, even if we get knocked out first week of finals it will be a successful year IMO.

Getting that monkey off our back would be huge for the coach and for the perception of WT

I switched 9 off and will never watch again. Second time I’ve seen them have a crack at us on the news

It doesn't have to be spent until mid next year but I mean hold off until the new year as there is always a player or 2 looking for a change for some reason in the pre season ..

I'm a massive defender of madge and really believe in his approach but now he has a team he has assembled by and large. Every club has a few underperformers and yes ours are paid a lot but two is doable 3 or 4 was hard.

Really big year for us tbh

If you reflect back on the coaching and team instability, the fact this team has consistently been close to even making the 8 over the years is honestly surprising.
Looking at other teams who have had stars or rep players or great forward packs over the years (something great to work with/off the back of) - e.g. Cowboys, Dogs, Dragons probably a few others - and how they've risen and fallen, it's promising for us that we've competed better than some of those teams. We've been less than satisfactory in many aspects during this period but did way better than we realistically should have.
I know there's some personal bias but we now have a top coach and things are more balanced within the squad, so surely next year looks highly promising.

Josh Reynolds set to depart Wests Tigers for English Super League
By WWOS staff

The Wests Tigers and Josh Reynolds are set to part ways with the veteran five-eighth on the verge of signing a deal in England.

Reynolds, 31, is expected to ink a three-year contract to move to the northern hemisphere in the coming days, Fox Sports reports.

The news comes as a major win for the club with Reynolds'contract at Concord coming under heavy scrutiny for not providing value for money.

The former Bulldog had one year to go on his $3 million four-year deal with the Tigers - and only played 22 NRL games for the joint venture during that time.

Reynolds will link up with newly signed Hull coach and Tigers legend Brett Hodgson, who had earlier put in an offer to lure Benji Marshall to the Super League.

The move will give the Tigers around $500,000 in salary cap space and will build confidence in trying to recruit more talent to their roster.

Tigers coach Michael Maguire is expected to shift Adam Doueihi from fullback to five-eighth for 2021 in place of Reynolds.

Reynolds leaving is good for the salary cap but him leaving after pre-season training started is hardly ideal.
Aloiai leaving so quickly would not have been in the plan and is not ideal.
Seyfarth leaving sounds like it wasn't ideal.
The JAC deal falling through at the last minute was not ideal.
Most other teams would know who will play 1, 6, 7 & 9 for the year, we have had lots of changes and will need time for some trial and error.

If Madge had known how much salary cap he was going to have for 2021 he would probably made some different decisions, it looked like he was being very conservative with player purchases for 2021 so we he would have cap space and money for 2022.

So our position is better than anyone would have expected, but there is still plenty of justification for not making the 8 in 2021.

Call them excuses and demand Madge's sacking if you like. I feel very strongly that sacking Madge at the end of 20201 would make us much worse in 2022 and 2023 compared with sticking with him.
