Junior Nursery

We've been told time and time again that the Macarthur region is the RL junior nursery that WT will and must capitalise on - I don't think there is a sound mind out there that would disagree on this.

However we've also been lead to believe by some that WT should shift their focus away from a 50:50 split with the inner west, the idea being that this area isn't growing as fast and demographics tend to support quality juniors elsewhere.

For quite a few years i've subscribed to this idea, although I've argued against abandoning the inner west's 50% share.

So its interesting seeing the makeup of WT for next year and seeing where they come from

1\. Tedesco (St Gregs)

4\. Lawrence (St Gregs)
6\. Moses (Holy Cross)
7\. Brooks (Holy Cross)
8\. Woods (Holy Cross)
9\. Farah (Leichhardt Wanderers)

11\. Sironen (Holy Cross)

We are seeing the inner wests and macarthur both pump out quality players. Lets ensure that both areas continue to do so and supply this great club well into the future

Thank you for staring this thread. Your just stating the obvious.
In anything than a 50-50 split would be the end for me and other supporters.
The Balmain area has just as much to offer as the MacArthur area.
GWS realized the idea of basing themselves in blacktown was not a good idea in regards to attracting supporters, exposure and more importantly sponsors.

Playing all games at Homebush for money isn't the right way to go.
There needs to be a balance and the 4x4x4 system that Humphreys got the Board to agree with is about as good as we can do for now.

Inner west is growing, it's getting to the stage where there are more kids than places at local schools.

Tbh I'd rather see people think of junior football as a recreational thing for kids to enjoy themselves in a positive physical activity and not as a farm where players are produced. Junior soccer and aussie rules is very much about the kids enjoying their sport rather than future employment options for a minority who could cut it.

The district rep teams somewhat collect the perceived best for presentation who then get filtered so the perceived very best end up in various NYC teams. It's that second filtration process where players are sourced for NYC that is the important part for NRL teams.

That all said it is always nice when kids play for their local team.

Back in the past NSWRL (and also other sports like the VFL) had district residency rules where players had to live in a district to be allowed to play for that team. That policy was removed half a century ago, despite that it seems to have lingered in the culture of the supporters.

I don't think that has much to do with it. Whilst some might support other clubs, the vast majority aspire to play for the senior club, even to this day.

The latest to state this was Brooks when after he extended his deal, and most will no doubt recall similar comments from Farah, Woods etc. in this regard.

Both junior districts need help.

Balmain are suffering from the BLC redevelopment drama….but have shown some growth in recent years.

Wests I recently read has hardly grown at all since the Magpies moved there in 87....considering the way the rest of the areas grown, this isnt good

We need to keep these two feeds healthy and growing

Comparing apples and oranges there Demon.
Each club needs to have some sort of representation.
In our case it's Inner west and MacArthur region.
So of course you want to see the kids from our area coming through the grades aspiring to make first grade with our team not others.
