It was so the kids doing HSC could devote more time to study than balancing school/sports duty not a bad idea it should also ensure kids stick with league instead of giving it away for school

Only fair to give everyone a chance to play out a full season especially the Flegg players. The QRL have been mighty slow on that front, so if no changes occur expect to see more from QLD coming down to play.

So what are they going to put it back next year. The reason was they were finding kids doing HSC were giving the game away because they couldn’t juggle the study and the training requirements now they can devote more time to schooling and worry about nrl after completing HSC

No, this was a temp fix due to covid.

Most flegg players are 19-20, some 18 year olds, many of whom have already finished school. They usually play sg ball while still at school and flegg the following year after they've graduated high school, some top juniors will go from ball to flegg straight away for a few games though.

Gives the kids that missed this year a chance to show there ability without penalising them due to COVID

Well the schoolboy cup is back on this week so we've got a couple of boys signed with us who will turn out. Mikey Tannous at Hills Sports is taking on Holy Cross. I suspect there will be some Balmain boys there. Plus we've got a decent sized second rower from St Gregs (can't remember name but he kicks goals as well).

Yeah he's got a good build and seems pretty mobile from highlights I saw in their previous win. He can certainly strike the ball cleanly too.

WHilst everyone has been effected the COVID break for lower grades has hurt us more then most. 2020 was a very important year for us looking at the 2021/22 seasons. Guys like Madden, Simpkins, Stefano, BLore, Hoffman, Cini, Camroux etc would have played a full season against men readying themselves to hopefully push for first grade in 2021. They've now essentially had 12 months of development wiped out and start 2021 where they were in February this year.

Imagine how different Penriths 2020 would have been if COVID was last year and Luai, Crichton, Martin, Too, Naden etc hadnt had the chance to develop

Yes this has put those behind who would have played Canterbury Cup this year but on the other hand some of these players have trained with the NRL squad this year which is better than nothing. Then you have the other Flegg players who may have played CC in 2020 but missed out on the bubble. Some of these played Shield against the men & 20s (not the same I know) but many did not play at all. Not sure what happened to players like Felix Smith and Mavoni from the 2019 and still eligible in 2020 JF. Damn shame and not sure if either of them played this year.

Raising JF to 21 for next year is not going to achieve much for those that were 20 this year who were going to mainly play CC anyway? If there is a CC next year (& I believe there is a strong chance there won’t be), then playing JF at 21 might be beneficial.

At the end of the day, missing CC this year has been detrimental for most.

Felix Smith played Sydney Shield for Campbelltown. No idea on Mavoni who the club rate highly.

There's no reason CC shouldn't be on next year. There was very little reason for it to not be payed this year. Every single other level of the game is being played. Flegg and CC were the only grades cancelled. All age groups and comps from 6-60 were completed in some form.

I'm afraid the reason being given is $ due to COVID. JF will stay. Having been involved with others managing a CC club, the cost to run those competitions can be hundreds of thousands so not small fry. It's not confirmed yet but I have been reliably informed that it is very much on the cards. This would be partly why Snoop is being mentioned as the new first grade assistant coach to Madge.

Let's hope the cancellation will not eventuate because the Top 30 need game time somewhere and if there is still a bubble how will they get it?

That is the reason Canterbury Cup didn't resume as NRL squad members are in the NRL bubble..

It will be much of the same into next year by the looks of it..unless protocols are changed
