Junior Salary Cap Rule?

There should be a rule in the Salary Cap where the clubs juniors are recorded as half their price. For example if we re-sign Nofoaluama on 400k he should be recorded as 200k. Just an idea as it is sad seeing juniors being forced out because of the cap. This way clubs like Sharks will also be at a disadvantage.

Mate they have spoken about this for ages,

They wanted amendments for long serving players of over 8 yrs, and certain exemptions.

No real progress as of yet.

All talk, no action.

I mean like Juniors should have an exemption not long servings. I would hate to lose all our juniors because of the cap. We have plenty of good ones coming through and would be a disgrace to lose them because of the stupid cap.

It's not a bad idea, but half their salary is a bit much. If that were the case, we would never see any transfers ever.

But yes, the concept is a good one.

Maybe 1/4 of their salary, so Nofoaluama on example 400k, it will be recorded as 300k. It is just a way to keep your juniors.

I'd like to see a value added rule where say 50% of the increase in the worth of the player is discounted from the cap.

So he comes in from the juniors on 50k and he goes up to 150k after a few years. Then 50% of the 100k increase is discounted so he is only on 100k on the cap. That system would reward clubs for producing NRL level players while still detering clubs from spending sprees.

That system is open to abuse of course like any system with complexities added in, one problem would be clubs stockpiling kids so that clubs with more money pay for better scouts.

Would like to see it happen, might actually convince clubs to invest in their own local leagues rather than other clubs' juniors. Out of all the clubs that would benefit greatly from such concessions only the Broncos and Dragons (and the Knights if you count them) are what you would call glamor clubs, the rest (Cowboys, Warriors, Raiders, Tigers, Panthers) are not.

Could you classify Thompson a Junior considering he went through Keebra with a Tigers-scholarship, however couldn't leave the GC due to his family.

Can you read? He's just saying that we aren't a glamour club, not that we don't have heaps of juniors.

And in the interest of fairness, you've excluded Galloway and Ayshford from this list who are both non-juniors despite including Marshall who is only a junior if Bodene Thompson is (neither are). I don't think Tim Simona is a WT junior either? Pretty sure he's a Sharks junior or at least started in the Sharks juniors and moved to us later on.
