Junior Tupou #254

I am disappointed he will be going but I don't believe you can consider it in isolation. The issue for me is the opportunity cost of retaining him while entering into a bidding war with the Dolphins. We have some very good talent in the lower grades and I am sure Marshall and Richardson have taken this into account. As someone else posted, I am sure the Dolphins' coach was in his ear while with the Tongan squad.
ive not heard about any talented wingers coming through ????

this is horrible im really starting to dislike this club even more now
tupou got massive potential but we are trying to buy a team cause that worked so well all the other times
Tupou is 21 years old why give up on him at that stage?????

He appears to be chasing the money and even though i agree he is worth keeping who do we risk losing in the near and mid future to pay him what he wants to keep him here.As always it is a balancing act we need to get right and at least we have an experienced head in Richo to do it

maybe we should stop paying 5/8 massive money and we wont have to worry about that problem

21 and is already one of our best backs and we just let him walk
We need to stop letting our good players go.
Retention is just as important, if not more important than recruitment when it comes to building team morale and harmonic motion. I was recently watching a few shorts of Panthers 2015 NYC side. The same core of players doing pretty much the same stuff they do today.

3 years at roughly 500k is too much for Tupou, simple as that.

He has potential but also does come across as a mercenary, always open to the highest bidder. That's his right, it just means we're light on talent for next season as most of the kids we have aren't ready to contribute in the nrl yet, and will take time adjusting even when they make the top squad.

Tupou has always been an outsider though. He's very quiet, keeps to himself, looks awkward in social situations. Doesn't have strong relationships with people at the club. Losing him won't impact morale, it just creates a whole in our squad and is 2 years of wasted development. We shouldn't spend any more time on him, he's got too many flaws to stay with us if he's signed elsewhere officially.

Losing Tupou sucks...
I believe Benji has something up his sleeve though.

Maybe he's seen more from some of the new guys at the club.

Maybe he knows we're going to get some one else that's more suited for our success & future.

I hope we're talking to the May brothers though.

i dont trust him since hes after a player like olam

I wonder how much on here think Tupou is worth?

Dolphins apparently blew our offer out of the water. For a talented but still a project player how much can you pay for potential?

I think Tupou is underrated by a few on this forum. Behind a terrible halves structure, bad coaching and even worse inside men he had a very good year. He showed something despite the situation.

Do think he is one we should keep but I’m against promising players a position.

Offering him 3-4yrs isn’t bad either unless we don’t see much more improvement in his game to come - heck Benji extended Naden by 3yrs.
