anyone know if he is at training yet? havent seen him in any pics

I think he must be. I know a guy who trains there and prior to Christmas he told me he doesn't talk at all.

Yeah, that's what it said in the article above. Hopefully, our guys can get him comfortable coming out of that shell

*“He’s probably the quietest person I’ve ever met, especially for someone who has always been touted as a big deal with a big future,” French said.

"All through his schooling career he was always going to be something special. But there’s no ego, he’s quiet, really reserved. He’s actually a bit of an enigma, he’s quite hard to unpack and get to know.

“To be honest, I’m proud of him for taking the opportunity in a new city away from here because he is so shy, I’m sure it’ll be a big challenge for him.”*

Always good to see new blood

Out of the new players we have signed available to play in 2022 he is the one i am looking forward to most.

Agree.

We need centres and we signed him outta nowhere.

Shout out to @Earl

I'm excited for a Gildart x Tupou pairing.
It's theirs for the taking, imo.

Agree - looking forward to seeing how both go. I just hope Gildart's body is OK because he was very good a few years back before injuries.

We might be alright in the centers if we've found a few diamonds in the rough here with Tupou and Gildart.

Definitely both unknown quantities, but I'm hopeful.

Generalising, but a lot of Polynesians are like that at least when they’re around people they don’t know. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I’m sure his playing ability will do the talking for him.

Yeah I think so mate, I look forward to seeing how these two go. One's an international rep player who's travelled to the other side of the world to prove himself, the other seems like a quiet hard worker who was talented enough to get snapped up by a rival code despite being from a league background

It's definitely preferable to a loud mouth like BJ!

We have a very high % of Polynesians in our squad - hopefully they can take him under their wing and surround him with people of a similar background and gradually help him come out of his shell. Joffa, Stefano etc

He doesn't need to be the loudest player on the team, just enough to communicate with his team mates, on and off the field.

600k for 3 years for someone who hasn't played week in week out at NRL first grade level, I don't think so. Am I the only one who thinks this is over the top. Where's our future stars within our own ranks? Anyway, good luck to the kid, hope he doesn't get stuck in reserve grade redeveloping and he proves me wrong.

Isn't top 30 minimum wage like $120k a year?If so $200k a year isn't far above minimum wage

Hes definitely not on 120k a year. My sources told me under 300k for 3 years

This bloke is going to be a star.

Why do you say that?

Was already confident based on his success as a junior, rep honours in two codes. But just looking at him in the most recent training photos, man he looks like an absolute beast.

Idk if that is an accurate way of measuring someone’s ability.

If you're good enough to get picked as a representative in league, then get picked for the Junior Wallabies in your first year of union, and if you have the physique of a tomahawk missile, it's a pretty good foundation isn't it? There is nothing he could have achieved at his age, that he hasn't achieved.

Tupou only moved to union in the last few years too it's worth noting, he's always been a leagie. He's with us because of some shrewd, low-key negotiating, and the fact that has about 5 wallabies playing in his position ahead of him at the brumbies at the moment with RWC around the corner. love how he's flying under the radar, nobody was expecting this signing at all.

Yeah these dual code reps are useless ?

Yes, you are correct. The Thornet Bros, Mike Cleary, Phil Hawthorn, Ray Price, Steve Knight, Fairfax, Gourlay, Andrew Leeds, Michael O'Connor, Robbie Parker etc etc. Useless the lot of them.
