Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Very exciting prospect. Dominant at Harold Matts level last year & progressed well into his bottom-age year of SG Ball, one of the best in the Magpies squad. Not overly big yet but is strong, good leg drive, nice footwork, very good defensively & has good hands, had a few try assists this year with nice balls. Has played a 4 or 5 Flegg matches off the bench (10-15 mins) this season, looked good last match in his stint. Only 18 this year has a bit of filling out to do but is very professional & diligent in his training and extras. Still playing schools footy this season too so will be a very good chance at making the Australian Schoolboys squad after the nationals this month.
Sorry couldn't reply quickly house leaking bloody rain.

Hey mate, I know this is technically the wrong thread, but a player you liked in Jimmy Ngutlik is playing extremely well in the Qld Cup this season.
Maybe we let him go a bit early before giving him enough time to get back to full fitness and show his true ability.
On the other hand we have been having no luck with our PNG recruits, maybe Sydney is just too far away and too far out of their comfort zone.

Thanks for the update V maybe he might come back to Sydney I'm sure other clubs watch the Brisbane comp.

Well at least we have him. By the time his scholarship is up, we may be a powerhouse that no one wants to leave!!!
I recall, back in the day, Wests would have talented country kids on “scholarship” at St Greg’s. They’d get their education courtesy of us, get to play in Peter Mulholland’s crack schoolboy team, get plenty of TV attention and then head off to - Souths, Easts, St George, Norths or Canterbury etc

Gotta love scholarships 🙄

I remember when St Gregs was a big deal,
Even out in the Bush everyone raved about it.

Hardly a ripple in the pond these days.

The Wests Tigers CUBS played Canberra Raiders in a Jersey Flegg development match on Saturday morning before our actual Jersey Flegg game. The match is on Bar TV for those keen to watch.

Firstly not sure what is going on at the Wests Tigers communications dept but absolutely pathetic the club could not tell members & fans about this game beforehand or even a match report afterwards.

I only found out because @jrtiger had his finger on the pulse.

I watched the game last night, no team lists but could identify about 90% of them. It was a team comprising our best U19 players (those obviously not playing Flegg or Schools comps atm). We had a couple of the highly rated Matts boys in the team Jhevon Lele & James Lanyon I think it was on the right wing.

We won the game with a try in the final minute and, all in all, was impressed with nearly every player who got a run. It was a game where there was no individual brilliance but the team looked well drilled, plenty of effort and minimal mistakes.

Hard to hone in on a few as our best but Archie Duncombe played prop/lock and was consistently strong on both sides of the ball, Marc Tannous marshalled the team really well and had 2-3 try assists & a line break, Jack Nicholas had big carries & scored 2 tries down the right wing & Peter Ta'ai (I think was #11) was strong on both an edge and when moved into lock (although he got placed on report for an alleged bite).

Riley Oitmann scored a slicing try but was disappointed with his performance - one of those days for him with about 3 handling errors and a poor missed cover tackle going for the intercept instead of the man when Raiders scored a runaway try.

I think it was Lanyon on the left wing who was strong for a 17yo, both Cohen Benson and Lele shared 5/8 duties both impressive, Tauaifaiga & McMenemy were centres both strong carries and Xavier produced the hit of the match when jamming in, and our #12 backrower was also impressive especially in defence (not sure who this was).

Kohan Lewis, Dane Ransom & I think it was Farr-McKay from Balmain (though not 100% sure as different haircut) were the props with Duncombe and did their job although I thought the Raiders had the superior middles for a large part.

you're a weapon. great to hear the boys got another last minute win v Canberra.

I hear Archie will be doing at least some of the NRL preseason, if not all of it, so great to hear he's doing well. he actually believes lock is his best position, so if he continues on his current trajectory there's a fair chance he ends up plugging that hole for us. Jack Nicholas is another that will really come into his own next year in Jersey Flegg.

stoked to hear Lanyon and Lele held their gloves up. the former for mine is an elite prospect. is it possible the 12 was Will Stone from Balmain?

thanks so much again for sweeping thru this one mate. you're a shining light on the pathways scene and truly 100x better than our media department.

Thanks mate. Sh*t I forgot to mention Will Stone. He wasn't #12 but came on when Ta'ai moved to the middle and was also one of the best, ran with intent, scored a try & defended strongly.

@jrtiger if you get a chance, can you jump on Bar TV at some point and see if you can confirm #11 is Ta'ai and identify #12 - shortish solid Poly lad.

I'll try my hardest mate. you've done the hard yards so I'll see what I can do.

Lanyon and Xavier are two to watch for mine

Our Wests Tigers Cubs Under 18s played & beat Cronulla today, a mix of our best 17yo Harold Matts & 18yo Laurie Daley Cup players.

The whole game is on Bar TV plus highlights package of tries.

I quickly watched the 10 min highlights, the boys looked good especially lock Siotame Havea Jr (in the Mario Tartak stable).

He will definitely be in consideration for a Dev contract once he turns 18.

Thanks for the heads up BWG. I’ll watch it over the next few days.
The glimpses I’ve seen of Siotame Havea Jr he looks to be a super prospect.
