Tough luck to the boys

How good is that , my old High school gets the bickies.
Brilliant Sports school, bad luck Keebra

No offence FT, but what where you doing at Westfields Sports High.
Where you running the school tipping comps, maybe the school bagman or where you actually good at a particular sport.

Running tipping Comps

Had a scholarship for League
In "93-94" played Commonwealth Bank Cup, played the Curtain Raiser vs St John's High at Parramatta Stadium before the City vs Country game which was a highlight for me seeing players like Tim Brasher, Rod Wishart, Sironen, Daley up the tunnel.

Played S.G Ball for Balmain in "93 "but missed the Season after doing my shoulder vs the Panthers. That's the best that I did.

Harry Kewell was a class mate and Andy Patmore my Maths Teacher.

I wonder if Mr Tucker is still the Principal there.

Well done mate, I'm impressed.
Knew it would have to of been more than just running the tipping comps.

From at least 2010 a mr r davis has been the principal according to newsletters

Jctiger…..I pissed myself laughing with your Tipping quote comment , gotta pay that one.

Kavi......I left Sydney 10 years ago, we used to call Mr Tucker Santa Claus cause of his white beard.

Michael Buettner was our School Captain at the time aswell and sometimes I used to do goal kicking with him occasionally after School, his house fence used to back up onto the School back oval.

The best will get homesick, or have personal circumstances that mean they need to sign with the broncos

Seriously how many times has that happened? I can think of 2 - Kahu and Milford. You forget half of them are kiwis anyway.

Didn't Barba both go to and leave the Broncos for personal reasons?

From memory went to QLD for personal reasons but was unwanted at Broncos once Bennett was re-appointed as coach - I suppose you could call that personal??

he moved to Qld to follow his missus

Keebra Park suffers heartbreaking last-minute loss to Westfields Sports High in GIO Cup final
>
Emma Greenwood, Gold Coast Bulletin

>
KEEBRA Park is determined to focus on the silver lining of its GIO Cup national schoolboys final loss with the team already turning its attention to next year’s campaign.
>
Westfields Sports High scored two tries in the final two minutes of the match to edge past Keebra 26-24 and prevent the Southport school from claiming its third national title.
>
But the school’s reputation as a breeding ground for elite players remains, with rising star Payne Haas, the target of several NRL clubs, named the Peter Sterling medallist as player of the tournament.
>
Keebra looked set to add to their 2009 and 2013 titles when they took a 24-18 lead into the final 10 minutes of the match as fullback Connelly Lemeulu — who kicked the golden point field goal that won his side the state final last week — crossed.
>
But after scoring with two minutes remaining to get within two points, Westfields rolled up the field and Jake Averillo scored on the final tackle to steal the match and break the Gold Coasters’ hearts.
\

Keebra Park players slump to the ground as Westfield Sports High celebrate their late victory in the GIO Cup grand final.
“The boys are a bit shell-shocked at the moment, it was within their grasp and it slipped away and it’s very disappointing for them,’’ coach Glen Campbell said.
>
“It’s crushing in the fact that we got so close and had the game in our grasp and it comes down to one or two plays.
>
“They’re a bit down in the lip but they’ll learn from it.
>
“But the young boys are already starting to talk about what they need to do.’’
>
Campbell said 13 of the squad of 20 would return next year and while those players were already determined to return to the national scene, the pain of yesterday’s loss would linger for the seniors of 2016.
>
They include Australian schoolboys prop Haas, who is being chased by several NRL clubs and is still to determine his future.
>
Haas and fellow Australian schoolboys front row representative Tom Mikaele dominated the middle yesterday, while centre Liam Liam Pakau and hooker Liam Hampson, who with Mikaele will join the Wests Tigers program next year, were also outstanding.
\
\
Desperate defence by Keebra Park to try to tackle the Westfield Sports High front rower in the GIO Cup grand final.
Campbell said he realised early in the year the chance the school had to achieve something special.
>
“I got a bit of a hint early on, just the way they gelled as senior players and the how quickly the 16-year-olds picked the game up,’’ he said.
>
“I thought we were in a with a real show early in the year and it proved true — we got the Australian final right down to the wire.
>
“The quality of the 16-year-olds is outstanding, from Tanah Boyd and David Fifita to Jono Siofele, they’re going to shine in the future.’’
>
Campbell said he “wouldn’t wish this feeling on anyone, losing like this’’ but was proud of the way the students had responded.
>
“They can’t go around stomping their feet every time something doesn’t go their way and that’s the lesson they’ll learn,’’ he said.
>
“They’ll be gracious when they win as well.’’

7 leaving and we signed 6… am I reading that right? I know it's essentially our feeder club, but that still a good result.

I would imagine that not all of the 6 will come down this year. Depends how old they are and if they're finishing school this year or next.

Like Felise who came down a year after Seve, TMM and Lio.

I think it's great that we have a hand on these players but how many of these players have actually come through and have had an NRL Career apart from Benji Marshall?

I think we have to evaluate just how much time we are putting into these kids and how much it's costing the Club on these resources.
I would much rather purchase established 1st Graders
that are 23-25 years of age.
I mean the players that are doing well at our Club are Wests or Balmain juniors.

Wests juniors: Tedesco, Nofoaluma, Jesse Sue, Lawrence.
Balmain juniors: Simona, Brooks, Moses, Woods, Lovett, Sironen.

Some players who have come through Keebra in recent years -
Benji Marshall, Ben Teo, Sam Moa, Greg Eastwood, Jamaal Lolesi, Rangi Chase, Te Maire Martin, JJ Felise, Bodene Thompson, Jai Arrow, Lehi Pulu, Agnatius Passi, Corey Norman, Ben Murdoch Masila, Tautau Moga, Robert Lui, Isaac Liu, Kenny Edwards, Jordan Kahu, Jaleen Feeney and then the likes of Seve, Liolevave, Heleta, Rowe who played juniors for us.

That's not a bad alumni for a single high school. Sure, we didn't pick up all of those players but if we keep fishing where the fish are we'll occasionally snatch a ripper.

Especially seeing it costs us barely anything it's undoubtedly a worthwhile investment.

Mikaele and Pikau seem to be quality players, if we could somehow manage to snare Haas as well that would be amazing. He won the Peter Sterling Medal this year.

There is a good list of players there BB , but apart from Benji there isn't any players on that list that have played more than 2 Seasons for us.
How come we can't hold onto some of these players that have played for us? Obviously money…..Teo went for bigger money aswell as Bodene Thompson and going back home and Te Marie Martin well he just wasn't going to get game time when the decision was made on Moses
Do we have a preference to Wests and Balmain juniors?

We must have a certain amount of Keebra Park players that get drafted every year to the Wests Tigers system cause we seem to draft around 6-7 Keebra Park players each year to Holden Cup.

Let's hope we can turn some these kids to future Wests Tigers star, fingers crossed.

With this (2017) being the last year of NYC in it's current form …it will be interesting to see what happens with this current crop of youngsters coming through..

If the next level down from NRL is to be an Open age National Reserve Grade with say Under 23's at State Level could see a few Clubs changing there Junior development strategies...

Well this year was supposed to be the last year for NYC, but yet here we have next season again. Who knows how far off change is. A state based 20's comp, even divided into sub regions, would still allow us to bring in players from interstate or anywhere.

Placing the limelight on the reserve grade instead of making stars out of kids can only be a good thing.

I'd also like to know what on earth's happened to St Gregs. They used to be a solid development pathway for us and in general. In the last decade the only first graders we've got from them are Lawrence and Teddy? Not even that many go to our nyc squads from memory. We should invest more with them to retain that SW identity and gather some of the best kids from the area.
