Keeping our top players

What about the poor coach and his future and the welfare of his family. He told the Board 2yrs and farah's men got him sacked because he wanted 4yrs and the bloke that got sacked got it right now we are left paying marquee money to an ageing hooker who no-one else wants for any money.

Blame the club then, they had to sign the contract
I don't believe that any player carries a gun into contract negotiations
If your Boss wanted to pay you much more than other companies would, would you tell him " it's a nice offer, but I only want half that much thanks".
Of course you would, we all believe that don't we? : :unamused:

But mate the bottom line Farah did not force the club to sign him. The club agreed to the term in his contract, so frm a moral and a legal point of view Robbie was in the right and held all the aces. Sorry I know it has been done to death, but I am not in the Farah camp but he had a contract and he had every right in the world to dig his heels in. Let's leave Farahgate out of every second post

We currently don't have ANY players contracted for 2018 and beyond, which in my mind is the best place we could possibly be in. No legacy issue, complete fresh clean slate to work with.

Woods is a must. He will command the biggest salary at the Tigers but his experience, leadership and value as a player is by far the most crucial to our roster.

Once Woods is locked in, we need our spine taken care of.
1\. Tedesco
6\. Moses
7\. Brooks
9\. Cherrington

I'm no pro but I would think that we would have a $ value for our spine in total and we can work how we split it up from there. Tedesco will command the highest with Cherrington the least. If Moses or Brooks leave then we should look at a half with a bit more experience but won't break the bank.

We will have a lot leftover for other players who are much deserving of being locked in until 2020 but things can change and there is always room for outside talent. The above 5 players are the future of the club that we must build around.

Good post.

Sad reality is you cant keep all top players, sometimes it amazes me when i see a lot of big names in the one team.. Scratch my head and wonder how they fit in the salary cap..

Look at parra for 2016
There is talent out there, we might lose some, we might gain some.
What is important in my opinion is what they can achieve for us as a club.

What i dislike most about player transfers is the lack of honesty from some.
You hear a lot of denial about contracts followed by shocking outcomes.

Just be honest and upfront if you are looking to leave.

Your last line resinates with me as Brookes or Moses probable made there mind up a while ago if they were going to look at moving on ..here lies the problem why were they not honest about this with the club as they still had Martin on the books and could of made HIM a great offer .If one or both leave that's life but how the club has looked after them one would think a bit of honesty would be forth coming and personally I would be dirty on them for not showing the club some respect and not leave them in a situation that could of been made easier with some honesty..

If one of them leaves, it will be shattering to think we could have had Martin for a song, especially if they new they were going when Martin left.
They both owe the club really, I mean we paid $600k a year for a a couple of years for $200k a year returns.
JT had them playing a ridiculous style last year but by the same token they were not close to earning their money, so I believe they want to stay, and should for a reasonable offer after what they have got in the last few years.

I agree totally the style of 2015 didn't suit them, but I feel they are both better for it this year, and that's based purely on trial form and talk for brooks :roll Moses showed signs last year and has continued to prosper.

They will all stay. It's about getting the best deal for themselves, if they straight out said I just want to play for the Tigers they would be cutting potential dollars off of their next contracts and back themselves into a bit of a corner. Just stop paying attention to it because the media will keep throwing stories out there and putting their own spin on things right up until the day they all resign and we don't have to listen to it anymore.

It's so obvious that they are instructed by their manager to give generic answers when asked, just want to focus on footy, footy will do the talking and will sort itself out, would be a shame to be split up but we will see what happens etc

Starting the year well is crucial to locking them all up again. If they get a roll on and we look to be taking the comp seriously they may all resign with a view to the future rather than just chasing the pounds elsewhere.

Only downside to that is that they will want top dollar if they do kick off.

We only have 2 Top Players, the rests are still a gamble/risk.

We need to set our price and not flinch. If they are offered more elsewhere, it becomes the players choice.

The Tigers long term financial position needs to be stronger than allowing a few player managers holding us to ransom.

Agreed

We have to stop spending money on potential , especially when it will be a long term project

We can't afford to do it anymore

We are playing marquee prices for potentially good players , 4-5 don't take the next step they have to go , whether they are home grown juniors doesn't matter anymore

IMHO, we have 2 'marquees' Tedesco & Woods, with Simona being close.
As 'gamble/risk' I would rank Lawrence, Sironen, Brooks, Lovett, Aloiai, Cherrington, Edwards, Liolevave, Rankin, Hunt, Griffin, Addo-Carr, but certainly not Farah, Ballin, T Grant, Moses, Sue, Seumanufagai, Naiqama, Nofoaluma.
:sign:

Brooks and Moses are just two parts of a big jigsaw puzzle. The club has to be mindful not to get caught up in the media hype over the two kids contact saga. As Watto said put a price on what they are willing to spend and if it is not enough so be it.

These two halves need to show that they can control a game, and to do that over and over, so far we haven't seen that. They may turn out to be as good as their hype makes out, they may not , but to be worth the big money , they have to be able to be at the top of their game, week in and week out. In the NRL that's not easy, but if they want the big money , that's what they need to do
In round 1 Moses had his best half that IVe seen from him yet but there needs to be more of it The same goes for Brooks.
We want them at their best, but unfortunately the better they play this year the harder it will be to keep them
It may cost a heap to retain them, but good halves aren't too thick on the ground most days.
