Our half did his acl early, one of our halves started the week before the season started. We find it hard to attract players due to be wooden spooners and being poor for many seasons. Yet you and your negative Nancy mates bag us when we are playing bad, playing better, or even playing well. Staines was competing hard on every high ball he could physically get to.
He would clearly be the fastest player at our club, he’s an absolute must keep as a starting winger and back up fullback in my opinion.
In saying this the attacking high balls from our halves are often too deep.

We didn't do it that well, and come to think of it, neither was our kick-chase.

Agreed. There are a few subtle parts to our game that are poorly contested.
Highballs are obvious as you have illustrated. We tend to all stop when a grubber is put in as well instead of being on high alert for ricochets or fumbles. Another area is backing up someone who has made a line break. Not enough urgency to turn a break into points.
