Kids Footy

As you say, that is really weird scheduling having the gala day at this time of year. And yeah, nippers is great. Last season, my son was in under 10s. He buggered his knee three times and was out of action for quite a few weeks. The last time the physio at the ground suggested that he hadn't yet developed strong enough tendons or something - there was signifivant movement in his knee joints. So he advised that it's just a growth thing. His body needed time. So in an effort to strengthen things up, we got him pretty heavily involved with the surf club. There was a lot of sand running, and he was doing swimming training twice a week along with board training once as well as the Sunday at nippers. Hoping this year all his hard work has helped him for the footy season ahead. Summer definitely helped with his body shape. He's trimmed nicely. I can highly recommend nippers for anyone thinking about summer sport for a whole host of reasons. Not least of which is the comradery. Of course, there's plenty to learn there as well. Its a great scene.

Well, the 13div 1 teams all played at Ormeau in the Vikings Rep trial, and unfortunately the Helensvale
Boys picked today to have a rare 4 point loss.
Bad handling cost them badly, but it probably won’t hurt them to have a loss around now.
Complacency may have played a part, , but I would not miss the next game against Palm Beach,
It should be a ripper.

Palm beach’s handling was off as well, but they held the ball long enough when it mattered, to get the last try when it mattered,
bring on the Comp games!

Boys lost their 1st game last night 40-16 , only had 12 players with a stomach bug going through the school

EB should be back this week from his ankle injury

Probably the most mixed I've been watching my sons side play

They beat a side they haven't beaten 38-22 absolutely amazing stuff

But arguably the scariest moment I've seen in a junior footy game

We got a penalty and should have kicked for touch with about 8 minutes left but the young bloke decided to take a quick tap and copped a really good hit looked legal ......and the player was at first laying on the ground and then started writhing clutching his throat

Turns out it was a hit to the larynx and muscle went into spasm which closed up the airway

Fortunately he is fine .....extremely scary stuff

Whoa!!! That really is frightening stuff.

My under 10s Ormeau Shearer has just had his first win of the season. Played well - trackled strongly and ran straight. There really are some little super stars on show amongst the Juniors nowadays. Burleigh are leading the way in our comp. Beaten us twice comfortably and Helensvale are pretty good too. Looking forward to next week. Rusty jnr has just returned with his new hair cut after the game. M.O.M prize from a beastly performance a few weeks back. I'm wondering if others receive similar rewards for their efforts.

I have seen it once before in a BRL game between Norths and Valleys and involved Mark Graham and Wally Lewis

If you googled it you'd probably see footage ....from memory Lewis came in to tackle Graham ....Graham raised forearm hit Lewis in the throat

Mark Graham in my opinion is the best backrower in NZ rugby league along with Kearney

Nicest bloke as well ....this bloke many years ago waved me through at golf ......on the 9th ..ended up playing the last 9 holes with him

Very quietly spoken ....far different that you'd have thought

Good to hear about some of the kids games this year, I’ve not been able to get in since the forum changed earlier this year, my password and user name Couldn’t be recognised,
Still aren’t sure how it works.

I gave it up and as I’ve been pretty busy with renovating , haven’t got around to starting from scratch with a new registration till now.

Sounds like your boys are doing well Doc, we were up at Ormeau last Saturday with the Hornets 13 div 1 team .
Our Comp this year has lost some kids from some of the other teams, and Nerang looks like they are pulling out completely,, it’s a pity as they have been whacked almost every game . But kept doing their best and turning up each week, and Mudgeeraba hasn’t had a team at all in div 1

The Rep season is about to start this weekend with a big chunk of the Vikings. ( Titans)
Coming from our Hornets and Burleigh in A tri series .
So we will be freezing at Ipswich by the look of it:

Well the WT's were garbage but the young fellas side overcame a 16-0 deficit to win 32-30 in a nail biter with Tannum missing a kick with 30 seconds left from wide out to tie it up

I'm in the naughty corner ...told the Mrs he was being lazy in attack and he got taken off with a few minutes to go ...... he copped a head knock quiet until he thought we were home as we only had 1 sub

I believe we have gone to first on the table after beating the Grand Finalist and Premiers from last season with 4 players missing because of CQ age rep round

The young fella absolutely smashed em today. One very proud dad here. His defence was brutal for a ten year old and he ran hard and straight all game. The boys got up. Booyaaaa!

Our boys snuck home 20-18 in another cliffhanger against the second bottom side .....top of the table

Big shout to Hobbo's Junior side getting up for their first win of the season

Sadly my young bloke is playing union as a nine year old this year due to more crap at his league club of last year, but another kid that has also moved on helped out his newbie team last season. As an 8 year old, he hit like a sledgehammer, or like Mark Graham as mentioned above when in close quarters. Whilst fantastic, his hits in out wide and in cover were even better, Ron (Rambo) Gibbs like and most took a good while getting up to play the ball, if they managed to hold on to it in the first place.

My fella is more like Elijah running around in reserve grade thus afternoon, plenty of involvement and effective enough, but little grunt.

But ain't it great they're out there running around?

My association with junior football has ended this weekend .....

Usually its the someone involved external from the club who has caused the issue , this time it was our own coach

As our club provided 2 sides we had an odd number , but as our side had more Under 14's and other side had more Under 15's we were given the extra player

Well the coach told the boys that one of the drifting players ( as we only had 25 between both sides )who was based in our side usually when we play each other would play for the other side as our side seemed stronger

About 10 minutes before HT we lose arguably our best player ....so we are now down to 11 (against 13 ) and lead 16-4 at HT

Ten minutes after HT we lead 28 -4 and we lose another forward to injury which then makes it 13 v 10

Then the obvious happens the opposition scores ... get a heap of possession end up 28 all at FT and lose in golden point

Happy isn't expecting Xmas cards from a few people and 6 parents / kids have quit the club .....some of these boys are drifting players

Difficult situation to be in. Was there finals on the line or something? Unless I'm misreading, it seems all a little too serious.

Last week, we played a carnival of 4 games. We went there expecting to struggle in each. It turned out that we won two of the games, drew one and only got beaten by Burleigh 2 tries to one in the last game which was stopped early after one of our fellas succumbed to a brutal, late and very high hit. Numerous parents from Burleigh were laughing and one of ours said to not be so gross and to have some respect for an injured 10 year old. Well, things went south pretty quickly and 3 bushpigs were threatening our parents with violence. It was bloody awful apparently. I was fortunate enough to not witness all of the events as we pretty much left straight away not expecting things to get as out of hand as they did. Our mums had to be escorted to their cars and drove out behind locked doors. Some people are (insert swearing here) appalling.

My young fella has his last game today against the Nerang Rorters. Probably going to be too strong, but we've had a great season with a whole bunch of learning gone on. Young Rusty has been given the role as first receiver and has loved being so involved. Our boys have a special mate that gets to play today for the last 10 minutes or so today. I think there's gonna be quite a few aching hearts seeing him pull on the jersey and run to hopefully even score. The support kids show for others is amazing at times. Makes you proud - real proud.

@rustycage

Yeah mate ...just really annoying , many of us didn't want to split the teams as these have played 7 or 8 years together

we were told at the start of the season that we would be told about any decision and also told by the GJRL before that if we agreed to split the team (because of byes )

No back to back games , no games at the same time , during rep rounds they would play Friday night and then Saturday morning

That never eventuated and the biggest game of the year ( win made us minor premiers ) we had 6 players from our team had to play a full game before hand for the other side as the teams were down to 17 or 18 and the other side down to 8

Minute we lost that game we knew both sides were playing each other 2 weeks ago .... so it wasn't if the coach didn't have a chance to speak to the parents

My daughter plays netball and to see the organization they have compared to GJRL is embarrassingly bad
