Anything ESL related is a huge asterisks. Whether it’s coaches or players. The standard is below Qld cup, yet supporters delude themselves that we’re going to bring individuals over who will turn the club around.

I get your point but there have been coaches from the UK who have done well here.

Like Madge?

Trent Robinson has done well.

Robinson was presented with a Lamborghini. We’d be presenting one of these guys with a rusty old Torana

Before he came they’d missed the finals twice in a row, but I know what you mean. On another note, Toranas go for a lot of money these days

You want to talk about gains and losses. The year Robinson arrived, they signed Maloney, SBW and Michael Jennings at his peak. Our new coach has Jackson Hastings, Oliver Gildart and one or two other cast offs without contracts.

Robbo also had time at the Knights and Roosters under Brian Smith...
Smith may not have had much success - But he certainly got a few clubs into shape...

I'm not sure with Wane. relatively untested by NRL standards, despite his success in the Super League. Woolf seems a decent coach given his success with Tonga but he wouldn't be my pick.

Woolf from memory was sacked by the Tongan Rugby League board due to a signed petition from members of the senior playing group threatening to boycott matches if he remained coach. Not sure of the ins and outs but the divorce was definitely messy.

No it's the opposite.

The Tongan RLF sacked Woolf, the players revolted, the RLF was overturned and they instated a new governing body. Even the Tongan PM got involved.

Woolf is the current coach heading into the World Cup.

Cheers for clarifying. Very different to the article I read earlier from an NZ paper however I'll take NRL.com as a more reliable source.

I think what we need is a coach who has proven themselves in both the Super League and the NRL, preferably one who has coached an international side as well.

There’s this guy named Michael Maguire who’s done all that…..

Nope I actually wasn't as I'm well aware of who Woolf is involved with. Was basing it off an article read from an NZ paper published in 2019

Yeah, they don't appreciate one of our previous candidates, Matt Parish. He seems as popular with the players as he is with Ray Hadley

I think the initial reports were that Woolf was on the nose with the Tongan league board, which was true, but then it turns out the board was the one causing trouble and the members were asked to stand down.
