KYLE STANLEY SUFFERS FIFTH ACL TEAR

Written by STAFF WRITERS, March 10, 2015
LUCKLESS Sharks recruit Kyle Stanley has most likely played his last NRL game after sustaining the fifth anterior cruciate ligament rupture of his career.

The former Dragons utility, who moved to the Shire club from Wollongong with Gerard Beale this season, was steering the fortunes of NSW Cup side Newtown last Saturday when a sudden change of direction forced him to the sheds late on in the game.

Sharks officials had been hoping it was just a strain but scan results on Monday confirmed the rupture which will see him undergo the fifth knee reconstruction of his career.

The news is a bitter blow for Stanley who’s five-year stint at the Dragons was plagued by injury.

Still only 23 years of age, it is not impossible to suggest he could make yet another comeback, but after five serious knee injuries one would consider it extremely unlikely.

Stanley is yet to comment on his future…

You really have to fell sorry for this bloke...ALL the best Kyle...

That's just unfortunate. It stops being luck at about 2 times- when it happens 5 times, the whole biokinematkic chain needs to be modified.

This would be shattering for this bloke… He must be a tough to go through all the rehab over and over again. At some stage, the mental edge would be lost?

It is also testiment to how talented he is... Not many clubs would continue to offer a contract to a kid who has 2-3 reco's.

Best of luck Kid!

The guts this bloke has to keep having another go is amazing. I've done mine twice and I'm to scared to run now lol.

The hardest thing about it all is you have one leg that is still perfect and another that seems that it can't take a break

I feel sorry for Kyle. A talented player but has had such bad luck with injuries. Recently married and has a young son. I wish him all the best for the future.

Time to give it away unfortunately. There comes a point where your health has to take priority.

Why doesn't he just get the LARS procedure done? It's obviously never going to improve for him via conventional means.

Covell was back in like 6-8 weeks with his.

Well said Willow. His own well-being should be a priority.
Time for kyle to move on to his new adventure.

From the people I have seen have the LARS procedure it seems players at the end of their careers using it , not players at the start of their careers

Don't you think it would look likely as the only solution for a kid who has had five ACL tears?

I don't think things are going to improve for him.

If he makes the decision to retire he will just have the normal ACL reco I'd reckon CB

Not much in normal life can cause you to rupture your ACL

Well as long as some DH Broncos supporter doesn't try and push you down the stairs while carrying your sleeping son out of Suncorp Stadium

What's it feel like to have done an ACL brk54y? or for anyone else on here who's done an ACL for that matter.
I have an understanding from the body's perspective of how the ACL works and fits in to human body, just intrigued to hear what it feels like first hand when it happens? Have had probably half a dozen mates across cricket, soccer and league who have done at least 1 and they all say it feels as though your knee is falling apart and has no stability.

It's different for everybody mate and depends on what damage you do to other cruciate ligaments ,medial ligaments ,meniscus ,dislocated kneecap etc when you do the ACL

Most people would agree that there is a sharp pop when it goes and instant pain to the area Strange thing in my situation within 20 minutes mine felt pretty good and I was trying to convince people I was OK That was until I tried to do something and fell in a massive heap

I also had a 70% tear of the PCL and tore the meniscus up pretty badly

I don't know how old you are , but the older you get the more dramas you have afterwards as well

The pop and the feeling you'll be alright until you try and do something is what I've heard people say.

Sounds like a pretty bad thing to have happen you to you so kudos to people who've done them and come back, be a tough grind for your everyday bloke who isn't a professional.

Cheers for the reply HT. Enjoy reading your posts and your insight.
