OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

after listening to the wests life podcast tonight I’m almost certain my theory that Richo offered that extreme amount to Flush out Galvin is true .
1. You get wind that the dogs are tampering in January . You try and instigate contract talks . You get ducked and weaved for months .
2. When you finally do get an interview , you know shits about to go down so you offer extreme overs confident in the fact that your mail is right , and the kid is committed elsewhere.
3z shit goes down , not what you thought was going to happen , but it still goes down , and your predictions are correct . You send a media release and all hell breaks loose .
That’s basically the theory .
Here’s the reason i think it’s true . If you’re his manager , If you’ve got promises of a certain amount from a club, but they can’t go over that amount , how do you keep his price down ? Especially when the knights have screwed the whole market by giving a big average footy player 1.3mil a year , and there’s rules in place around having to offer market value for a player . So if the tigers register an offer at 1.1m you now have to come close .
You’ve been getting your player to record any thing eventful that’s happened to him over the last year or so , not sure how you were going to use it , but probably to get out the club . Now that the market has shifted you are getting hassled by the tigers to negotiate a new deal , knowing the tigers will probably register a contract for over a million. If they do that , then that screw your client with the bulldogs , has now the dogs have to come close to that offer .
So you go into the meeting and flat out reject the offer . Knowing it would be suspicious , you use the evidence you’ve been collating to get out of the club. , to put in a bullying complaint , justifying your reason for rejecting the contract .
Now you take that list to a lawyer ..: and wait . The tigers eventually can’t stand how toxic the dressing room is … and now you’re telling the dogs they got thier man L…..
I’m certain that’s exactly what happened .
Why else would we offer that amount? He’s just not worth it after 30 games and what he has shown.

Didn’t he also say earlier isn’t he year / last year , he met up with Galvin over Chinese at the leagues club .
I’m almost certain he did , on his podcast , because the other guy was joking about Chinese and underhanded deals at the leagues club .
If that had happened, it would have been all over the forum. There would have been a 100 page thread dedicated to it.

It is a nice theory but there is a flaw in the storyline.

Moses is in it for the $. How is the cash delta being met?

There is more to the story and I suspect plenty of $ outside of the contract for both IM and Team Galvin. The drama of Gould courting Galvin on TV is the shiny thing for everyone to focus on while the salary cap rort goes on behind the scenes.

Yes good point Jolls. It was Gould who proclaimed on air that Galvin would become the highest paid player in NRL history. So how is it that he has signed for only $750k?

Because Gould made a comment on a later podcast it was unfair or unjust for a 19/20yo to be earning that kind of money ($1M+) for weight of expectation amongst other reasons and his salary should be progressively increased.

$750K is the reported Parra offer and the Dogs are apparently under that. The story is a fairytale. Gus says Galvin will become the best paid player in NRL, but he is not worth it right now etc. Galvin makes his retention untenable, threatens legal action etc, goes to the market and leaves around $2M on the table. The manager is simply following his clients advice.

That is exactly what has happened except - Gould provides the cover for the story and IM is paid behind the scenes to make it happen. Team Galvin may have swallowed the story hook line and sinker and left $2M on the table for his better development, maybe not. IM isn't missing out though; he will be "consulting" for Laundy on some other matter and recieve payment for "making it happen".

Gould said also that he should not sign a big money contract at this time of his career - it was another message - that the money will come it doesn't have to be now.
He is 19 years old - if he is as good as Gould as got him tagged there is plenty of capacity to earn a whole lot more on top of his already healthy 700- 750k.
It appears that Gus became more influential in the decision than Moses who I have no doubt had Parra believing it was a done deal.

Big misunderstanding by fans and media on the financial implications. The player is risking health, form and taking a risk. Taking a 3 year deal at 750k vs a 6 year deal at 5.5m is smart business. Two new teams are in by then and a new TV deal will mean his next contract at a better club will likely dwarf years 3-6 of the Tigers offer. The risk is he fails the reward is a better club, rep football and going to market when the cap explodes.

It’s actually a no brainer but shows a real lack of loyalty and respect to the team that developed you.

Yes, Gus seems to have some very timely and productive “welfare checks” with players. However, the really big story is his use of his media contracts to play the oldest sales trick in the book. The up front boast, which gets the target’s interest, and begs the question ’tell me more.’

Control , and access to the dogs. He’d been frozen out of 2 of the 3 Sydney clubs associated with elitism . It would affect his business , as players would know this . When you consider the nsw origin team basically consists of roosters , dogs and the riff , you’re never getting backing in at the roosters , so if you don’t mend things you’ve got no access to 2 of the 3 main feeder teams to nsw origin .

Agree, he would be crazy to sign for 6 years at that. At the same time you’d have to show some long term faith in Russian Oligarchs? We saw an airline crumble here in OZ.

He didnt say from this offer he would attain that status. I think he meant the kid is young enough that his contract after this one will attract most of the big clubs and theyll offer the world to him if he develops as expected.

I listen to most of Gus's shows - It happened!!
He was there with Vella and Gus said he saw them and went over and said G'Day.

Agree with most of what Gus says (Regarding Galvin) but he slipped up there when he said he never met him..
Again,
It was 12 months ago he said he'd said G'Day, and he may have said that the other night
referencing the current situation only.
Who knows, I heard something that Gus was in QLD last week - So it could be right.

Do people really think he is only getting 750k ? No way he or his family are not getting other money or shares etc off record. Dogs have been in trouble before for trying to do pub deals
I don't buy it but tbh I just want him gone so I can hate the dogs even more and we move on.

I actually have zero problem with the $$ because if Galvin is good enough he is going to get paid a heap over his career anyway.

He still lives at home even on $250k a year.
The kid is getting an extra 500k+ per year another 250k makes zero difference.

Moving from $250k to $750k a year + incentives is absolutely massive for anyone let alone a kid his age living at home - if it doesn’t change him then good on him but most kids will change bit time with that volume of cash around.

He will be close to the highest paid player at the bulldogs at 19. If he wins a comp he will be one of the highest paid players in the game for a decade. Huge & different pressures/expectations come with that however - the bulldogs are often ruthless on that front.

Gus in damage control - will be on every mates podcast with "I never have met Galvin" mantra.

No club wants their star juniors if they have got them courted like Galvin has been with Gould.
What's the point of developing players for him to pick off the ones he wants through his influence as supremo NRL guru.
He doesn't have to meet them he sends their ex school coach and Ciraldo to do his work - as if they would independently do that without direction!
It has caused immense damage to what pathways represents which is to bring your juniors through and if Gus has free reign to pick off the ones he wants and no other club can get near his than all clubs should coming for him.

I think that was about Mahoney , he had met up with him at Chinese restaurant and then signed him
On a 100% footy about a month ago he said he had a discussion and advised Galvin about his future, then later said if he was advising Galvin. He can’t keep up with his own lies

The issue with ‘he’ll make up the difference in his next contract’ is possible, but so is his form declines or he becomes a forward or a career injury. Then there is no ‘catch up’
It is a gamble by team Galvin
