We definitely dodged a bullet in not signing him to a 1 million dollars per season contract.
That’s not to say he is not a talented young player which he is, but he is certainly not worth an elite player contract value just yet.
 
Someone like Pezet would have been perfect for the dogs

Solid kicking game, big body, always firing shots

Instead they went after Galvin who is largely invisible every week and even his own team mates seem to avoid him on field. I thought dogs improved when Sexton came on

This whole Galvin saga is a perfect example as to why young emerging players should not let a bit of good publicity and public praise get to heir heads and have them believing they are superstars before they have earned the right to do so.
In saying all this I think it keeps pointing to the fact that Latu Fainu has far better potential, so we probably got lucky in that sense.
However we have our own issue with the question as to whether or not Luai is proving us with 1.25 million dollars of value ?
Nobody can doubt what he brings from a leadership and drive point of view, his defence and work ethic cannot be questioned, but for 1.25 million you want and expect an attacking genius and he is far from that at the moment.
We will need to see a big improvement from Luai in 2026 to get to that expected and required level of attacking play.

On balance i think Luai was worth what we payed him this yr, he came at a time when we were scraping the bottom of the barrel with no decent experienced halves, an emerging FB and a 7 who left with great fanfare in the media (brooks) and a prop who decided he could develop better elsewhere (stef) so it was a very low point. Add to that 3 spoons in a row and just the fact that someone like Luai would come to give us hope was worth the 1.25m we paid him this year....it's not like he broke or is breaking our cap...look at what Newcastle and others are now paying in their spine. He also added some legitimacy, hope and star power to our campaign to climb the ladder and helped attract a couple of other solid first graders. Would we have wanted more from him...hell yeah, however im satisfied, not pleased. So thats year 1's value delivered...thanks Jerome. Now for year 2 the value leans more towards on- field performances and results, so the clock is reset and we go again!

You are correct in saying he has now had the benefit of the doubt in setting in during his first season with us, but if he does not significantly up the ante in 2026 by taking control of our kicking game, deliver much better 5th tackle options and produce better attacking options, than he will not be worth the money we are paying him.
I am far from confident he is capable of making these necessary improvements.

This is the thing I don't understand because I have heard the coach on many occasions say you earn your spot in the team on the way you defend and I don't see it in Galvin

He looked like a stunned mullet knowing deep down that his selection decisions in omitting Sexton from halfback and Mahoney from hooker has ruined their season.
He obviously does great things ensuring his team do all the one percentors such as kick chase and defensive line speed better than any other team, but his team selections leave a lot to be desired.

I wonder who really picks the team. Even before Galvin joined ciraldo did not seem too excited about getting him. Having said that he just extended with Gus so maybe he enjoys being dominated.
 
Anyone still give the Dogs any hope now ? I won’t rule them out just yet ..


They had their chances last night in a notoriously hard place to win … it’s an open comp this year compared to last when Penrith and Melbourne were better by the length of the straight …
 
I guess the fact he was playing well under Benji can’t be ignored

I wonder where we would have finished this season if he had stayed and without his disruption

Crichton is a big loss ..huge...but they werent far off last night.
Next game a home game in front of 60k psychos..likely Panthers . It will be a tough one lets see how penrith and wahs pull up today.
Hopefully dogs out in straight sets

The standards they/he sets for all their other players has never applied to Galvin - the great trainer tag can only get you so far.
He has lost a lot of credibility and even more so if he is a yes man for Gould.
 
Mmmmmmmmm. I think many of us (including Richo) must be secretly happy we didn't mortgage the club for Galvin. Having said that,I think he will be a 100 game first grader, but that's it.
Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles could see that Sexton is a more complete team player than Galvin. But I guess when you talk someone up as the greatest next thing, its hard to admit he is not the next Messiah. It wont be Goulds fault it didnt work out; it will be the coaches fault!

Gould has already sewn the seeds.
Back when Galvin defected Gould said on television that Ciraldo wanted him and went after him.
Never once took credit personally. It was always “we”.

He is really going to struggle to reach his potential.
Both clubs he has played for have stunted his development.

I have no doubt he is a smart operator and knows exactly what derailed their season, yet persists with it?
Does not make any sense.
