OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277

I agree. If Latu stays on the park I think we will be fine. I think we are on as many wins this year if LF is playing in LG's spot.

I think LG will be good, but definitely not as good as people say (EG - Generational talent comment I just can't fatham).
Think the overall hype on galvin is a bit overboard however i would be prepared to say galvin is the better 6 over latu fainu and galvin will have a better career than latu fainu. The team is better with galvin in it than not.
I wouldnt be changing the team too much this year

if latu is fit and we do look to the future I would like to see in 2026 galvin staying and he perhaps plays lock or second row from bench for that year and give latuna run at 6 and jack bird potentially the one dropping off the bench

Galvin looked fine during the team song not as animated as some but that's how it goes in all change rooms. Some blokes don't want to be sprayed and are happy to stand back and let the big personalities go off.
He is a kid dealing with a lot of focus for all the wrong reasons unlike anything else he has experienced - ie. accolades for always being the star. Chances are the club is trying to protect him from the media and fan scrutiny, get him in the sheds with his best mate beside him and let the media focus on some of the other players.

That was my initial thought...as i read on here a few weeks back apparently there had been threats directed towards him thru the club....maybe they dont want some lunatic at the fence giving him a gobful or possibly worse...theyre looking after him

Galvin has not played well in his last few outings and notably Luai took charge against the Dragons. His kicking was a big reason why we won and whomever plays 6 will have to be able to work well with Luai including working under his direction. Faini imo has a more well rounded game than Galvin as you would expect from a player developed as a half. He needs to work hard on his long and short kicking but has the pace, passing, defence and anticipation you expect from a half. He also has two brothers in the team which assists with harmony. It is a nice position for the club to be in now.

IMO.. your last paragraph is spot on!!

he can't stay on the field for starters...
galvins tap on to Staines was very good, galvins defence wi us the game against sharks the tackle on hazleton
Latu has hardly played any games (all he really has is reserve grade form)
not sure how people can say he is better than Galvin. Once latu plays 20 or so games judge it then at present Galvin everyday of the week and twice on sundays

Am I pretty angry he is leaving, absolutely and i don't like how it was done but to say latu has a better game is just not correct, one is playing nrl week in week out the other just has reserve grade record.

Many moments go towards winning and losing a game...there was definitely one possibly two mis tackles by gal that lead directly to Sharks tries

I have been critical of Galvin's game; however, in attack yesterday he was a but more direct and dug further into the line; this is a good sign. On the down side in doing so he delivered a couple of hospital passes. He was targetted in defence and, I though, for the most part did OK. He was pushed off badly a couple of times, bet then again so was May.

Put the defence aside for a moment and it demonstrates that he is listening and trying to improve. There is a genuine attempt being made by Galvin to improve his game and by both Galvin and Sefarth to develop thier combination.

What has dropped off in his game is his effort areas and I expect that has a bit to do with the pressure he is under and probably a desire not to be here. I don't think he isn't trying, but I expect that the desire he had has dulled a littel over the last few weeks.

If the boys get around him and he feels like he is wanted I expect he could get that desire back; so I guess it is up to the team to support him - regardelss of what is happening outside of the change room - he is one of ours until he dons someone else's colours.

I am ambivalent about his departing as it seems he was only here due to Wests having a strong HM side which would get him noticed by the clubs he really wanted to join. He should be made to see out his contract and provide depth to WTs.

I reckon that last bit needs to happen this year, as soon as Latu is fully fit, he comes in at 6.
Agree, Gal is not ready to start as NRL lock or srf in our team. He still gets swatted away and manhandled by the adults. But yeah off the bench this year and next year we have a lock, srf, who can cover backs. At only $250k.

I would say it is up to luai to work out who he wants to play with in the halves, whuke we are winning Latu can hit the pine
article today in SMH luai saying "we don't have to be friends but we are a better team with galvin in it "
I get plenty here are annoyed the way galvin has left and rightly so, but you don't replace him with a reserve grader look what happened against parramatta no galvin no win

As soon as we play him on the bench or in the forwards you watch the manager work up a storm again.
It’s best for us this year he stay’s and plays in the same dynamic we started the year with and look to next year as next year. Latu should come off the bench and start defending out at 6 to get used to that a bit but continue to play through the middle in attack.
In a perfect team with a perfectly fit Latu he replaces Bird for mine. I think our forwards including our bench in Sione, Hunt have built up their endurance to be able to handle more time in the forwards. I guess you lose the utility value Bird has. It’s a tough but good headache for Benji but I wouldn’t be making forced changes without injuries or form being the reason.
Next year however, preseason starts with Latu as our 6 and a key component of our spine. That’s a whole preseason to work on that, not a space of a week.

agree latu off the bench to replace bird then you have 2 attacking threats in the field with luai
