OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277

Yes there is.
He is being backed by the broadcaster and the games administration are not objecting to it. What chance does anyone else have when he is getting a free ride weekly with legends of the game pumping his tyres?
As for the conflict of interest, he has been sold to the Rugby League world as an extremely successful authority on the game. He uses this narrative along with his connections, also supplied by his job at 9 to aid him in recruitment for whatever club he works at.
He also uses his access to the free tv audience in a 2 hour weekly broadcast to push for rule changes or interpretations that will affect his club positively.
Assume they take your view and ban Gould. Who should take his place? A Dan Ginnane type? Ex player? Journo? It's easy to complain, but what is your solution?

I am happy we have both and I am looking forward to watching them both play this season.

In my opinion, Latu is a more dynamic runner and his passing game is at least as good as Galvin’s (Latu has very quick hands). Thus he poses a pass and run threat. Galvin is slower and his height and weight make him much less a running threat. Defensively, Latu is better hands down. Plus there is a decent possibility Galvin will need to transfer to the back row in a few years.

Someone else said it here that the elephant in the room is that Galvin is blocking Latu and I agree with it. Latu was the higher rated junior and it was only because of his hamstring last year that Galvin got his foot in the door.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Hey Wiz
This comment :

Surely we all have seen before that being higher rated in the juniors doesn’t mean much until we see how they perform in the Top grade.
Plenty of blokes will tell you that someone they played juniors with were just average but then went on to play 1st grade and the star junior never quite made it.
Let’s hope both of these boys reach their potential and the club benefits from it.

Skip the the end, Talking about us making the 8, Galvin.

Gus is a ‘big big fan’, extremely worrying I think he’ll go extremely hard for Galvin if he doesn’t re-sign with us Nov 1. He claims in the future whoever has Galvin in their team will be winning premierships.
If Galvin kicks on this season, every club would be interested in him. Rationally speaking, if he is winning at the tigers why would he want a change of environment when you can be with all your mates? I think if we remain in contention for making the 8 in 2025, that will be enough for him to stay.

Take Gould’s place?
The commentators aren’t that important.
Literally all the above can be tried.
A fan on the hill could do it.
Can see it now. The Furston guy with a Channel 9 gig.

Honestly, mate, we'd be laughing a fan off the stage if that happened.

As far as I'm concerned he does either his media work or his association with a club, not both.

No one needs to take his place, there are already ex players
I don't know. He is paid for an opinion and he gives it. People can come out and refute it if they want.

Any player, coach or club administrator can go on tv, talk to the papers, start a podcast, youtube channel etc. if they want to. It's not like the rules are different for Gus vs anyone else.
The rules seem to be very different for Gus compared to anyone else.

The problem is that 9 have built him up over the past 2 decades to be the oracle of the game. Everyone on the Tele with him is a yes man. Teenage players and their families have grown up with him being presented as THE expert on all things Rugby League.
He is an ex player, an ex coach and an administrator therefore knows what he’s on about….
The problem is, his playing days were during a time when training meant 5 laps around the oval, a half hour of kicking field goals followed by a dozen frothies down the pub. His coaching days were outside of the modern era and he has steadfastly refused any gigs within it. He also takes far too much credit for the successes of Penrith especially, NSW Origin and the Roosters.
He has a lot of people fooled.
A dozen frothies - his training was light on!

Problems isn’t the media it’s those that put to much credence in what is said. People with connections to the game make better commentators not because they know more about the game than the average punter but because the viewers put credence in to what iand who said it.

Gus’s media role can be a mine field with potential conflict, but I didn’t hear him saying anything different to what others are saying about Galvin and our new team. I don’t recall anyone else suggesting that we are top 8 material this year. then again I get my NRL news from the 30 odd % of posts I read on our forum.

I was going to say who cares who takes his place - most commentators have their biases and and favourites. Most people who follow league closely are able to make their own judgements without being spoon fed BS from commentators.

Is there a chance Gould wants us to re-sign Galvin because he wants to get Latu? Remember Gould visited Latu’s brother in gaol. I wouldn’t put it past Gould to be playing chess whilst everyone else is playing checkers.
I actually think Gould is talking us up basically saying that we should make the 8, so that when we don't it looks like we've underachieved in the hope that Galvin gets frustrated again (like last year) and looks to go elsewhere. Gus just planting the seed early.

Thats more than likely his motive...its subtle yet effective. and works both ways for him, as you mentioned with Galvin if we miss the eight and if we happen to make the eight hell be sure as to remind all & sundry what he said in Feb

Thing is the conflict of interest probably needs to be reported to the employer, and in this case 9 and the chihuahuas are probably very happy. 9 get a mix of people who hate Gus and keep the TV on to swear at him and people who love Gus.
Chihuahuas get this type of public courtship we are seeing of Lachie, and it is presented as the voice of reason because its old mate Gus.

If neither employer accepts there is a conflict then it should be the governing body stepping in. However, as they are possibly corrupt themselves what do they care?

If he was a politician in NSW this is a cut and dry case of corruption to ICAC, but it's presented as the most normal thing in the world. I appreciate vlandys was great during covid, but he is a scumbag from one of the scummiest sports in the world.

Happy pointed out Braith, 100% the same thing. Greg Alexander too.

If you think these guys can't deliberately twist the narrative to suit their own club or players I'm scared that you are required by law to vote.

Thank you for reminding me about Alexander .......

Leaving or not, I'm very excited to see how playing next to Luai enhances his game!

I think with another pre season and Luai steering the ship, plus a much improved forward pack, Galvin could really take it up a level this year

He'll have so much more freedom and attacking opportunity and I can't wait to see what he does with it

From the little i watched of the trials ,Galvin relished the contact in defence. The kid is a unit ,that's 4 sure. Allways, got that grin on his face no matter what's up
