NRL in crisis as QLD shuts borders
By George Vlotis15:47
The NRL is reportedly meeting this afternoon to discuss its options after Queensland announced it would be closing its borders by midnight Wednesday to mitigate the threat of coronavirus.
The development is just the latest curveball for the NRL who are desperately fighting to keep their season alive in a bid to stave off financial ruin.
Fixtures featuring the Broncos, Titans and Cowboys would all be placed on ice, throwing the league's scheduling into meltdown.
The NRL are reportedly hoping to use private charter planes as a loophole to get around the border closures but there is no guarantee this solution will be accepted at a government level.
If that is rejected it would force the NRL to assemble all the players in one state for as long as they hope to keep the competition running.
It has been reported that the NRL is looking into camp-style accommodation near Gladstone in central Queensland as an option to accommodate the 16 teams.
