Latu Fainu #282

Not really. It would be more ironic that the refusal to drop the bog average seven figure man who won't be here in September next year is the catalyst for us losing him.
I get the hate when u compare salary to performance, however i am not dropping Luai. If its purely performance based I would give jock the flick, his last 5 games have been very ordinary. I would probably give luai the 7 and play latu at 6.

I feel like you just need to throw latu in give him 6 weeks, and wear the result or play him a month at half in cup.

As for Manse i feel like if he is serious, you put him at a feeder sydney team and say earn it back mate. No train and trial etc but offer him support. To be fair his crime is rough, though id really want to see how he has changed his mindset etc.

Luai getting dropped is complete fantasy. There is zero excuse as to why he’s not in the halves over Madden though.

Aside from the Dogs game where it wouldn't surprise me to know that he lifted purely out of spite toward Galvin, Luai hasn't done much either.

The best halves pairing is Madden and Doueihi, that is where the best football was played. Latu is closer to Doueihi than Luai.

We know that he's not here in 2028. Start planning now, if he's really all "team first" he'll know it's best thing to do.

I think you drop Luai the team probably goes the same , we don’t have our best players on the field together so we are up against it until, this happens , when we had Sam f one side and KPP on the other it felt like we had 2 sides to attack from , May and Makka on left was also strong , Turuva on right is solid we just need a right centre Toa is to hit and miss , could Skelton play centre , I’m not sure but he is a big body and only needs to line a few up in tackles and break them with his big hits , strong ball runner , who knows , but until we are full strength we struggle a bit
Sam F , AD , May Jnr , Twall out all same time is not good

he has been basically earning a wage and undergoing rehab, bloke is always injured
That’s part and parcel of for a professional sports organisation, to rehabilitate injured players. I’m wondering what the club could have done differently over the course of the one contract he’s signed with the club? They’ve done what they were obligated to do.

Wonderful. I'm ecstatic that we're keeping him happy while he continually underperforms.
Theres been a lot of heat on him in the media this week, I know it shouldnt come down to this but maybe hopefully its something of a wake up call that makes him pull his finger out
That said Im not sure its something he can just decide to do...he doesnt seem able.
Id love $5 for every time ive heard or read "he needs a big one this week"...but here we are again

It’s a bit like year after year when people would say Brooks needs to lift. Or better yet, he should watch Cleary. Like that’s all there is to it. And even on the off chance that Luai gets up for it this week, he has to sustain it for the rest of the year and into 27. Pretty unlikely.

not saying the club shouldn't be paying him whilst injured but it looks like his body ain't up to nrl at this stage, unfortunately we havent seen him in the 7 due to injury
if he didnt have a brother that was exceptional in his role in Sam
is latu worth it in his next contract ? or do you shoot for katoa or something

Wouldn’t blame him one bit if he looked elsewhere.

Benji has repeatedly given the rugby league equivalents of dog crap in Seyfarth and Tristian Hope every opportunity to play in their preferred positions, in big minutes, while Latu is lucky to get 20-30 minutes, out-of-position behind Jock Madden, a career back-up.
Madden came in fresh for our unexpected win against the Warriors and provided a really solid depth option. Has regressed since then in what has become a week to week grind for him in the top grade. Seems the perfect time to install Latu in the halves.

Couldn't be any worse than Hope.
I get the Latu frustration not given the chance to play in the halves.
I am sure Benji can see this as well, but with our injuries, suspensions and SOO selection this has given Benji few NRL quality players to play that hooker position. Latu may also prove be a dud as an 80 min. hooker. Stop gap at best.
And I have no idea if Latu has any kicking ability, ie. grubbers, high or deep bombs, open space or kicks to wingers etc.
Ideally, he goes to KOE to show and hone those plays.
Now we have Andrews playing KOE halfback who also kicks goals!
Frustrating to everyone, but he gets good frustration money and hopefully Benji can show him the light at the end of the tunnel------for next year. Doueihi back, Luai leaving, new signings etc.

I would love to see a match where Latu plays 5/8 (on his preferred left side) and AD halfback on the right. I think this is the combo but unfortunately we have an immovable object in the way!

I don't get the frustration about Latu. He would've gotten first chance against Warrior if he wasn't injured and Madden had such a good month of footy, you can't just drop him.

Luai will never be dropped and I doubt Latu is kicking stones about that.

As I said previously somewhere, he is only signed for next year not beyond. If he signs for longer, then I'd develop him in NSW Cup, until then, he is better serving the team on the bench.

Any player who is ready for first grade but not getting consistent game time will be frustrated, but I don't think Benji has done much wrong here yet.
