Laurie Nichols to have Leichhardt lane named after him

Agree INK,I'm sure Laurie would have made an effort to support the WTs,he was passionate….

As you said also about the JV,the key word for all would have to be

ACCEPTANCE.......

To me, Laurie WAS there at WT first home game… and at the GF at Homebush in 2005.

He's there at every WT home game, and for as long Tiger fans continue to remember him.

Man a statue on the hill at Leichhardt would be large!

Why would you want it on the Hill Simon ??

Wouldn't most people remember him coming out the tunnel with the Balmain players

Could add to the mystic and the imposing nature of Leichhardt to opposition sides

Nah….I remember him zig zagging his way across the hill going hard when we need a lift and then down onto the paveway in front for more of the same.

Fair enough

Hill it is then

My stand out memory of Laurie was when he went to England for an Ashes tour with the Aussie side in either 86 or 90

They said in parts of England it had been snowing and it was bitterly cold and Laurie was still with the Aussie players in his singlet

Ha ha yes I remember the singlet in England as well Happy, nice touch though having a lane named after Laurie.

I know a lot of people had trouble accepting at the beginning and eventually came around, but Laurie was on another plane when it came to being a supporter. He broke down over Souths being kicked out. If he was like that with Souths, god knows how he would have handled the prospect of never watching Balmain go around again.

The JV broke him imo.

I was at the meeting/vote regarding the merger in 1999\. He spoke very passionately and emotionally against the merger. He wasn't the most articulate, and from memory he shed some tears, but his message was clear.

Yes, I can remember the 1986 Ashes series as well …... I couldnt believe he was running around with a singlet on when everyone else was rugged up in overcoats, scarves etc !!!
Wonderful character of the game ....... he was one of a kind and very happy to see him remembered perpetually in the renaming of a local street/laneway.
