Lawrence...Squeezed Out...

100% agree GCT the crap he cops on here is an embarrassment to WT supporters…if you look at my posts I am one of Rowdy's biggest fans...still think he has something to offer....In fact his form this year has been good IMO...

His form has been good this year, people just look for scapegoats and for the last couple of years it's been Chris. (Probably deserved until this year) . It's funny people questioning his character because all I have ever seen is guts. Coming back early from a broken jaw, that hip injury, and the lines that he runs all require lots of courage and guts. Unfortunately Chris will never make it to the heights he should have, but the one thing that isn't in his DNA is quitting. So the decision will be out of his hands and in the coaches instead and rightly so.
He has tried his heart out for this club and doesn't deserve to be treated like shit by people on this forum.

"The question has been raised why would Lawrence walk away from the NRL while he still has a big fat juicy contract"…..

because then - he would be a man of character - he would realize what's best for the team in moving forward

lawrence has shown plenty of Character ever since he first came to the club. Much more than some. If he had asked for a release two years ago, you'd all be saying he had no character because he had broken his contract. But now you want the club to break his contract . It's plain to see who has character here.

I want Chris to walk up to the club and tell them the truth. "I'm not the person I used to be especially since my injury. I know you guys hold me in high regard - because I am a man of character - but let's do whats best for the team. That last injury killed me and I just can't seem to keep up with the younger guys."

or he could just be squeezed out and fade away

Of the above 2 choices Gold Coast tiger - which do you believe shows more character????

Neither of your two choices will happen
The only way is for the club and him to comply with the terms of the contract that they both signed. There will be a clause there to deal with an injury situation. And whatever it is , it will be complied with in the event of Chris moving.
You can go on with all this airey fairy stuff as long as you like. And will change nothing except to expose your lack of knowledge of sports contracts.
Maybe you should ask the club to show the same amount of character that Lawrence has always shown and make sure that Chris gets what he's legally entitled to.

There has been a lot of talk about the club at last becoming Professional under JT and the new board.

But What you want, is for the club to act like some bush amateur club and break contracts whenever they like.

Lots of luck with us attracting the type of high quality players we need , if the club acts the way you want it to ,and tries to slide out from its responsibilities to injured players
Obviously the club , to its credit, knows it cannot do that, and has shown that they are aware that they may have to top up his contract if he moves

Sorry AHX, but you are living in a fairy land. Welcome to the reality of professional sport.

I think the Gold Coast is a fairy land for all us Sydneysiders -
can't wait to buy some property up there one day
but in all reality
it's happening before our eyes right now as we talk i.e. daly cherry evans
that's professionalism today
I'm talking about admirability

I would like to see the third choice - that is for the club to honour the contract that it signed.
That would show a lot of character in my opinion.

You go breaking contracts because it suits you - you will never get any decent players wanting to sign with WT. Character works both ways. Chris has shown how good his is - now it is for the second party to show theirs.

Yeah, I get your point. I totally agree with 5 year deals. Absolutely not on. The chances of someone going on to those heights are slim indeed. Simply not worth the risk. But my position doesn't change. He's not the clubman so many keep rabbiting on about in my opinion. He's purely interested in his own benefit. I reckon he should chuck in $2000 to charity for every game he doesn't score, until he does. That might lift his stats.

When did he score last? :brick:

You would have to be joking.

Oh! I'm not playing to well this season coach. Please don't pay me at all until I regain form - Oh! and by the way I'll get another job during the nights we are not playing so I can give you $2000 every week I don't score a try.
I just want to be a great clubman - I'm not concerned about feeding my young family - I don't care about them as long as WA in Perth thinks I am a great clubman.

Mate! What world are you living in? Cyber space methinks.

I also take exception to - your an office worker so because you have nothing to do you spend all day on the forum???? Yeah sure. What about council workers, Water Board, Electricity workers….. If you wear a blue collar you are almost dead by the time you get home -
OH! Honey I nearly killed myself today

Really darling - you need to be careful!

I know - my arm slipped again while I was asleep leaning on my shovel.

Russell, take a valium and lie down mate. It was tongue in cheek.

Also, what are you going on about re office worker carry on? I have no idea what you're on about. And don't give me the "feed my young family" line Very few 1st graders would be struggling to feed their families given the income they're on.

Yeah, that's fine CB, but everyone tries out there to be the best they can be I think. Some excel, others are good, some just don't have it. If you don't have it, you don't have it. A great club man would do the right thing for the club. He's proving every day that he is not that. He's in it for himself. He's in it for the coin and he's not prepared to allow others the same opportunity that he was afforded. When people here say they hope he can go and get a great contract to set himself up for life, I think what???? As if what he's on hasn't already set him up. Are you people completely mad? He gets probably as much as the Prime Minister. (Not that he's worth it either)

Sorry WD but that's complete rubbish. He signed a contract for 5 years or whatever, he suffered an injury playing for his employer( Not out on the town)and is entitled to have his contract fulfilled. If you were in that position you would expect your contract to be honoured( the small fact that it legally has to be honoured would be of a slight importance too)
The injury wasn't his fault, and I would expect that he has done everything that the club has askedhim to do as far as rehab etc. is concerned. Therefore unless the club can get him employment elsewhere and come to a suitable settlement , they have to full fill he terms of his contract.
And just another thing. No professional sportsman or any worker for that matter, isn't in it for himself and his family. Why shouldn't he be, just because you would like to buy a new player with the money owed to him, why should that effect him.
I can't believe how people can expect a sportsman to behave any different than any otheremployee.
If you feel that the clubs being hard done by why not donate part of your wages to help buy another centre. Same thing you want Chris to do.

I know he's entitled. Yep. I just don't believe he's a great club man. If so, he''d get the heck out of there for the sake of the club.

Yes Chris is of good character, but i like to see some great form to go with that.
Then everyone will be happy… Don't u agree!

Unfortunately Lawrence never recovered from his injuries, he and Moltzen (and alsoTuiaki and Dwyer) were unlucky, and they either never recovered or their form is so that no NRL club would buy them at any discount :frowning:
Lawrence is arguably the worst NRL center, while his defence has improved this year, his MIA in attack. While I do not support attacks on his character, he simply cannot be picked before Fine, Akuaola and even 2nd rower Lovett based on the current form.
Fine was last year best NSW cup center, he and Akuaola are consistently our best NSW cup players this year.
Highly paid players like Sando or Barba spent some time at NSW cup, why is Lawrence different ?

You got no idea WD…you really dont

Do you think about your employer first and foremost when it comes to getting whats best for yourself?

I doubt it

Youve painted Rowdy as the greatest con man ever...yet con men use surprise and deceipt to do what they do...Rowdy does what he does in full view for all to see, including those that make decisions on relegation to lower grades

Maybe Brooks, Moses, Teddy Simona etc etc all those coming off contract in 2017 should ask the club for no increase, just in case their form doesnt warrant it....you never know

Agree TM, it's not a case of liking him or not, it is a result driven business and if his not meeting the standards that is required well unfortunately we need to part ways for the better of both parties IMO

I wondered that too IBWT. He's never been dropped, even when his form slumped so badly he was still picked week in week out. And I don't want to hear " no one could take his place rubbish" Big money or not, if you don't perform, a stint in NSW Cup should be compulsory imo. Mind you, dropping him wouldn't improve his game. He's well past it now. England awaits when his contract ends.

FT,while Lawrence has been great for us over the years, his injury seems to have hampered his speed and movement,so much so he really isn't an NRL centre anymore…
I honestly think he could be used in the ESL,and he could earn good money over there all the while we can buy or blood a new face in the backline that could produce the breaks and try's on the end of our forwards hard work..

Rowdy is a good person,he will find something to suit his game, not us unfortunately, but that's the reality of it..as you know we need go forward, not backwards in our team and much as I hate saying it ,Rowdy really doesn't offer much forward progress of late..
