Lawrence...Squeezed Out...

Agree TM, it's not a case of liking him or not, it is a result driven business and if his not meeting the standards that is required well unfortunately we need to part ways for the better of both parties IMO

And football contracts have clauses to deal with that type of occurrence .
Simple really.

Yes Chris is of good character, but i like to see some great form to go with that.
Then everyone will be happy… Don't u agree!

I think that would be a great result Mama , but unfortunately his previous injury was one that made that an unlikely result.

The title of this post is like a back page headline of the Tele crap. Lawrence has a binding contract, it is a 100% his call what happens in 2016\. He may have been told that at this stage any contract negotiations beyond 2016 are on hold and he should test the market place and if he wanted to leave a year early the club would be open to making a contribution towards the first year of his new contract at a new club, but to say he is being squeezed out is just rubbish.

AS for Chris, he owes the club or the fans nothing, he just has to what is best for him. Yes it would be good to clear up some salary cap space, but you can not force any contacted player to leave if they do not want to. Sheens is the perfect example, he demanded and got what he was owed

Good post Supercoach, and probably how it will play out should they want it to( the club and Chris).

Of course their is always a chance Chris once he moves back to the backrow once Simona is fit,he kills it, the team charges on to a GF win on the back of his heroics and every club in the NRL is offering him a massive contact. Unlikely but funny things happen in sport and I love it when the good guy comes up trumps and Chris seems like a good guy to me

Yeah, I get your point. I totally agree with 5 year deals. Absolutely not on. The chances of someone going on to those heights are slim indeed. Simply not worth the risk. But my position doesn't change. He's not the clubman so many keep rabbiting on about in my opinion. He's purely interested in his own benefit. I reckon he should chuck in $2000 to charity for every game he doesn't score, until he does. That might lift his stats.

When did he score last? :brick:

You would have to be joking.

Oh! I'm not playing to well this season coach. Please don't pay me at all until I regain form - Oh! and by the way I'll get another job during the nights we are not playing so I can give you $2000 every week I don't score a try.
I just want to be a great clubman - I'm not concerned about feeding my young family - I don't care about them as long as WA in Perth thinks I am a great clubman.

Mate! What world are you living in? Cyber space methinks.

I also take exception to - your an office worker so because you have nothing to do you spend all day on the forum???? Yeah sure. What about council workers, Water Board, Electricity workers….. If you wear a blue collar you are almost dead by the time you get home -
OH! Honey I nearly killed myself today

Really darling - you need to be careful!

I know - my arm slipped again while I was asleep leaning on my shovel.

Russell, take a valium and lie down mate. It was tongue in cheek.

Also, what are you going on about re office worker carry on? I have no idea what you're on about. And don't give me the "feed my young family" line Very few 1st graders would be struggling to feed their families given the income they're on.

I don't need a valium WD.

Maybe you need to say "Tonque in cheek" as a preface so people don't think you are saying what you are saying.

Your the one saying Rowdy should give the money back - and that he should maybe pay $2000 every game that he doesn't score a try. So to your above comment - how is he going to feed his young family; well he won't be able to will he if he gives the contract money back and gives them $2000 every week.

Office workers comment was directed at Ed Reschs post not yours.

Unfortunately Lawrence never recovered from his injuries, he and Moltzen (and alsoTuiaki and Dwyer) were unlucky, and they either never recovered or their form is so that no NRL club would buy them at any discount :frowning:
Lawrence is arguably the worst NRL center, while his defence has improved this year, his MIA in attack. While I do not support attacks on his character, he simply cannot be picked before Fine, Akuaola and even 2nd rower Lovett based on the current form.
Fine was last year best NSW cup center, he and Akuaola are consistently our best NSW cup players this year.
Highly paid players like Sando or Barba spent some time at NSW cup, why is Lawrence different ?

Nicely put! The situation assessed without the character slurs or praise.

FT,while Lawrence has been great for us over the years, his injury seems to have hampered his speed and movement,so much so he really isn't an NRL centre anymore…
I honestly think he could be used in the ESL,and he could earn good money over there all the while we can buy or blood a new face in the backline that could produce the breaks and try's on the end of our forwards hard work..

Rowdy is a good person,he will find something to suit his game, not us unfortunately, but that's the reality of it..as you know we need go forward, not backwards in our team and much as I hate saying it ,Rowdy really doesn't offer much forward progress of late..

What I have said previously …stands...I admire Rowdy for what he has offered us in the past and being of good character, however his options are now quite limited to us...injuries happen, players lose form, for whatever reason...As much as I have admired Rowdy and still do,it is time for him to make way for someone more aggressive to the centre position...I'm not about to bag his performances because I truly believe he is a person that will do his very best while on the field, however much restricted he is at the moment...

I do believe he will move aside and make way for someone else only because he realises he can't do what he used to do...I hope he make the right decision for everyone involved...

I'd love to hear what your employers think about some of you. Wonder if you'd move on if the truth be told about your pay packets versus performance. Considering most of you spend the whole day on this website

Ed,as much as I like your input to the forum, please tread lightly when offering an opinion of people employed in other areas other than NRL…

For instance,Rowdy gets in one year what I would earn in five,I have to go to work every single day and perform to my contractual agreement otherwise I do get a written warning, and yes I have had a couple..I'm not afforded the leniency of NRL players,I doubt any of them get written warnings for not performing well at times,it gets written off as a bad day,I don't get that luxury...

As much as I try to understand your post,it has little bearing on the performance of highly paid sports people in the public eye,and people such as members of clubs that pays these exorburtant wages to watch below average games from the highly paid, everyone is entitled to their opinion such as you are....we are and always will be different, that's what makes the world go around..

Time for our club to start earning respect back in the way they treat players…..it's important. We tell chris he needs to move to bench back row centre utility. If he makes a success of this he sees out his contract and then is offered a new contract on far less money given his diminished role.

Chis is a realist he will either accept and take less money on the chance that we win another primer ship or he decides to go to uk for a longer contract and more money. Everyone just needs to be honest about where everyone is at and what we want.

Personally I think he will make an excellent utility running through the ruck at tired forwards, particukarly if they alter interchange. We also need to think about his experience, leadership qualities and his experience of the weststigers organisation. These things build culture.

Look at the benji situation. He was barley first grade standard and we wanted to offer him marquee money to see out his time at the club. You can't be weak in these things.

looking after your people in a dignified and professional manner will end up making us a more attractive employer. Look at what's happened over at manly. All the loser clubs muck around, the better clubs make a decision and tell the player straight up. The player knows the situation and can then make an informed decision.

Starting with this news that Lawrence can now look elsewhere for 2016 ( asking $350 - $400k) even though under contract we will all get glimpses of the future under the new regime in the coming months. Tigers are looking to shed up to $1 million from cap by releasing / not resigning 5 players
(inc Moltzen & Lawrence) and in turn bolster roster with the acquisition of 2- 3 key players. The first of these 2-3 players will be announced after round 13 and from what I am hearing will definitely strengthen the key areas where we are weak.Expect to see both Simona & Noffa back soon, with Lawrence taking up a permanent role in 2nd row - in fact Noffa may play this week - trained today on wing with 1st grade team!
The Balmain side of the joint venture should be viable within the next 6 months with Leichhardt Council formally approving redevelopment of Rozelle site. In short expect good news all round & watch Parra / Penrith / Gold Coast for possible signings!

Lordy, I'm not sure the Titans have anything to offer us besides James Roberts.

Sounds good

Maybe G Bird. He would add mongrel to our pack.

No thanks. There's a difference between adding mongrel or just being one. Spends more time suspended than playing.
