Lawrence tipped to shine

none of which changes the fact that this means Marshall goes to 7 and he is an absolutely terrible 7 who takes wrong options regularly and needs the extra space of second receiver.
the line 6 & 7 are interchangeable these days is rubbish. Marshall puts the 7 on his back and mentally becomes a completely different player.
This is stupid for the team because Benji does not work at 7!

He is a defensively woeful player in the #7 as well. Give Nicholls a run, what does the poor bastard have to do to get a bloody look in?!

I like the move.Lawerence could be a great 5/8th.Just as long as Lui goes back to 1/2 back when he comes back from injury
Sheens surely sees this as only a temporary fix until Lui returns.
If Sheens thought Marshall was a 1/2 back he would have kept him there from last season

For now a Lawernce/Marshall combo is our best option

I thought we already had a pretty good 5/8 too….....I don't like the sound of this.

Shuffling chairs on the Titanic again..... :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Why weaken the centre position, it's got me beat. And Benji at 1/2....nooooooooooooo.

I just hope if he is struggling early on, Sheens has the tenacity to hook him and put him back in the centres, Daniela slide out to the wing, and Fitzy/Fulton can move in to #7\. Neither of them are a specialist half, but in all honesty, I'd rather Fitzy at halfback over Benji/Farah.

In reality, the centre position is only weakened defensively, as Daniela has shown he can put points on the board. Just hope he works hard tonight and has a good defensive game.

It's OK mate…..Benji will wear 6...these are late positional changes.....much like every week...

ON Lawry.....don't think I've ever seen him kick the ball....but hey he'd only be 3rd choice anyway....

CB......Maybe all Benji needs is a good hot shower and he'll be sweet......Fitzy is to valuable on the wing.....Just hope he remembers to go back there after a dummy half run.....

Lawrence the new Daley.

Just like Morris was our Cooper Cronk.

Fulton was our Bradley Clyde.

Sheens fluff covering his incompetence and pig pigheadedness when it comes to player selection in the halves.

I wish we still had Mat Head.

Head was a broken down midget with numerous problems, getting rid of him was a smart move.

**Lawrence and Lote lethal on the left edge JASON TAYLOR
July 2, 2010**

The silky attacking skills of Wests Tigers centre Chris Lawrence will cause the Broncos plenty of headaches out wide tonight in Brisbane.

Tigers centre Chris Lawrence has been in scintillating form and was tremendous in a beaten side last week. Lawrence consistently threatened St George Illawarra's right-edge defence, scoring a try and laying one on for winger Lote Tuqiri. The dual international must be relishing the opportunity to play outside the young centre who, in 2010, has added footwork and skill to the speed and strength he has always possessed.

The Tigers move the ball around the field like no other team. They love to shift the ball from one side to the other to give their outside men room to move. When they shift the ball to their left they look to get it to Lawrence in a position where he is one-on-one with his opposite man. It is from this position that Lawrence, with Tuqiri's support, has been causing defenders immense problems with the use of one of the oldest plays in rugby league.

Advertisement: Story continues belowThe play itself, which in rugby league circles is known as an ''overs'' run, is designed to provide a situation where there are two attackers bearing down on one defender. This type of play is used frequently in most games with varying degrees of success. Lawrence, however, has made it an art form with his practice, perseverance and attention to detail in execution. The accompanying images were taken one second apart and show a sequence of Lawrence's ''overs'' play.

Picture one shows Lawrence one-on-one with Dragons defender Jamie Soward as he sets up his play perfectly. The first objective for Lawrence is to convince Soward that he is going to run straight at him. Lawrence does this by making a beeline for Soward while looking the St George Illawarra five-eighth directly in the eyes. The combination of these two moves forces Soward to steady himself in readiness for the tackle. This can be seen by Soward's footwork as he is stationary and waiting for the advancing Tigers centre. With Soward in this waiting position Lawrence then steps sharply off his right foot in the direction of the arrow in an attempt to leave Soward in his wake.

Picture two highlights the talents of this young player in a number of areas. While in the process of stepping away from Soward at speed, Lawrence has transferred the ball from two hands (see picture one) into his left arm (see picture two). Carrying the ball in his left hand allows Lawrence to fend off Soward with his right arm. When I quizzed Chris about this play he told me that it was the fending motion that he had worked hardest on which enabled the biggest improvement. By getting in close to the defender before stepping away, Lawrence has developed the ability to rid himself completely of the defender with his fend, propelling himself forward in the process, almost like a turbo boost. Once rid of Soward, Lawrence heads in the direction of the arrow with Tuqiri looming up on his outside. Tuqiri deliberately positions himself wide of Lawrence to give his centre as much room as possible to work his magic. Dragons winger Jason Nightingale is watching the battle between Lawrence and Soward intently as he knows he is about to be confronted with a very uncomfortable situation.

Picture three shows that Lawrence gets away from Soward and achieves his ultimate goal of creating a two against one situation with Nightingale. The Dragons winger has an important decision to make as to whether to come in and take Lawrence or stay out on Tuqiri. As shown, he chooses to come in, allowing Lawrence to complete his task in textbook fashion as he dishes up a lovely pass for his winger. Having said that, Nightingale made a good decision. Tackling Lawrence meant Tuqiri made the break without support. Should Nightingale have stayed out on the winger then Lawrence would have been through the hole with Tuqiri in support on his outside.

With Lawrence in such good form, Tigers coach Tim Sheens will make a late switch for tonight's match against the Broncos by moving him to five-eighth to partner Benji Marshall in the halves. This will see Lawrence with his hands on the ball more often and, given what I've highlighted above, will have the Tigers' outside backs licking their lips. The Broncos will be aware of Lawrence's powerful ball running but if they underestimate his passing skills and ability to read the game it will be a big mistake

Got 1 in general play….Nice pic though .....between the posts.....?

To all you Doomsdayers at there, I'm excited about the prospect of Christopher carving up. Hopefully he can get his hands on the ball more often and run like the wind

If I remember correctly Chris Lawrence has filled in at 5/8 before.
benji injured his shoulder against storm when wests-tigers played them at blue tongue stadium, on a sat night in 2007.
chris came on filled in at 5/8 and scored at least one try.
it will be interesting to see how this combo plays out.
give him a chance.

Lawrence and Daley comparisons, Dwyer is supposed to be a young Bradly Clyde.
Sheens is really attached to that old Canberra side isn't he.
Maybe we can get sponsored by the new Shrek movie and wear a Green Jersey for a few weeks, that would make him happy. By the way that Canberra side would absolutely destroy us.

That's right unfortunately for him.
Nobody else picked him up either and I believe he is playing park footy.
