Lawrence to weigh up future after ruling out Super League move

@hobbo1 Chris Lawrence’s top 30 spot is more valuable to the club than the money they would have to pay to resign him, give him the blue shirt job.

@hobbo1 people always mock madge for jennings, however he on paper is awesome. Tall strong finisher decent speed. He just hasn't performed. Added to that not every purchase will work. Every team buys their share of duds

@hodgo exactly right, many people wanted Jennings on board at the time.

I was never a fan, personally. But it wasn't a bad signing, on paper.

Jennings is a big boy I still have hope for him.

Me too. He came back from reserves looking a lot fitter and didn't do a hell of a lot wrong.

He did look a lot trimmer and looked a bit quicker too.

Me too, he can carry the training gear.

They are good points as well he didn't do preseason with us and minimally with south's he may have been under done

So it took him 20 weeks to get fit?

So he can drop that as well

G'day @Geo: Up till now I have been very pro Madge, but I'm starting to have some doubts re his under-pressure decision making, after what I feel was a monumentally idiotic decision to play Farah on Sunday.

I totally agree about playing Farah, we did not need another dummy half in the Team, it provided no benefit, young Talau could have provided something. With Lawrence, there are several things that deserve another 1 year contract, he plays with heart, loves the club, is a great influence and example for the young players, and still hits a good line. It must be a cap issue.

Thing is, he's not that tall. And he has average to below average speed. Physically, he looks strong but doesn't use any physical prowess on the field at all.

Absolutely everything about him screams average. I don't think he's above average in any aspect of the game whatsoever.

He's at best a 150k backup winger. But even then he's too lazy for that role and to be pushing those ahead of him. He brings nothing to the table and should be pushed out the door asap. Bradley offers all Jennings does for a third of the price. No room for them both in our 30

Basically lacks power or smarts for a winger. Nofo is an absolute lightyear ahead in terms of hitups and tackle breaks, Thompson and Momo are safer with kicks.

For example, last weekend Johnson puts in a short grubber and Jennings gets to it well, but stays upright for a moment which lets Mulitalo grab his collar and throw him back into the in-goal. It was a fast play, but if he had wits about him, Jennings could have taken the kick and gone low to avoid being pushed back into the in-goal. This is what Corey Thompson basically does every time because he has no weight.

But instead Jennings stayed upright and despite his size, was ragdolled into the in-goal. Even if Mulitalo got close enough to put his shoulder in, which he didn't, going low is always the best play when you field the football on your own goal-line. Instead, repeat set and Sharks score their 2nd try, after which they get 2 more and close the match.

Jennings has otherwise fumbled and stumbled his way through the season, don't know if he's made a line break the whole year. I also have a strong memory of him turning to chase a grubber and not even looking at the football, from which the opposition scored (Parra? Can't quite remember the match).

It's the tiny things that make the difference and when you are a winger, you basically have two jobs - be a handful in early tackle hitups and make good decisions when the opponents attack.

G'day @Blocker1963: I totally agree with the comments in your post re "Lawrence to weigh up future".
Oh, and something else...our forum names look good together on the page.
Have a great day :fa-smile-o:

@balmain-boy thats all easy to say now bro. At the time he was the comps leading scorer. Also 192 cm and 105kgs is big for a winger mate.

For me playing Farah meant we had given up making the finals. We were basically playing with 16, a player down. Not sure what Madge was thinking but he certainly went down a number of points in my opinion after that decision.
