Lawrence to weigh up future after ruling out Super League move

My understanding of the situation is that a family member was involved in the rolling of Madge at Souths.

There could be more under the surface than what appears.

Lawrence's family?

@Geo you get one from this list, or a younger guy looking for a top 30 spot from another club
We have quite a few backrowers on contract, it is a position we can cover on our roster
https://www.zerotackle.com/rugby-league/players/off-contract-2019/

Jamie Buhrer, Kurt Capewell, Jed Cartwright, Andrew Davey, Alex Glenn, Jack Gosiewski, Slade Griffin, Brodie Jones, Josh Kerr, Patrick Mago, Reuben Porter, Robbie Rochow, Scott Sorensen, Zane Tetevano, Kyle Turner, Teig Wilton, Frank Winterstein

Here's the list..who's coming for minimum wage ..Anyone half decent like Capewell, Glenn or Tetevano that maybe better isn't coming here for 100K..

Kyle Turner..?

Doesn't have to be a backrower who replaces Rowdy, just like I said about replacing Benji with a 9 if Grub stays, it is filling holes in the roster with limited spots, unless we move some deadwood

Anyone who thinks we are possibly letting go Lawrence to replace him with another second rower has rocks in their heads. The bloke is a victim of cap circumstance. We have alot of fat eating coin, non performers who we couldnt shop around if we tried... blokes like Masters who need a sports shrink to run hard again, run onto a ball and release his winger, instead of backing into the line every run.... that solves one of a few issues.

Madge didnt make these problems, actually he gifted us Jennings, but we are all sitting here licking our wounds yet again, and Chris is wiggle room.

Upgrade Eisenhuth and we can run Twal at 13 and Matterson can terrorise an edge opposite Garner. Upgrade on Jennings and we improve on laziness... alternatively find a FB and Thompson walks into Jennings spot... and we still need a hooker.

Lawrence isnt a casualty of finding a better second rower, its that he isnt a prop, a winger, a centre, a hooker, nor a fullback.

@Blacknwhite exactly, that is what I have been saying for months about our so called 3 old boys

Letting go of Lawrence drops of sharply the quality of the backrow...

McQueen Taylor Seyfarth and McKintye are the depth ..I mean really..we may have numbers in the depth chart but none of them offer as much IMO,,,Taylor has been good the last month but anything happens to Garner or Matterson and we are screwed ...

We lost Aloiai up front and it hurt...

Even if you replace Lawrence with a different position you are unlikely get one that's a gem for minimum wage...deck chairs..

Not picking you out.... though as per an article, Storm picked our pocket for Ryan Pap on a humble $140k/per.

What I know, definitely, is that Lawrence, great clubman, great human, and a player who gives his all, is proven over the last decade to not be an integral part of this team making the finals. NOT DEBATABLE !

I whole heartedly agree, that losing him before others is criminal, it really is. Though unless you can pry another contract loose, we do not have other options.

Give him a year at 150k then in 21 we will have 450k to fill his spot once our cap fine is done. Lawrence takes the dirty hitups and still tackles well, he has his limits but we won't get much better value for 150k.

My point exactly, we just keep giving the same blokes another year who didn't get us there the previous year, Farah, Rowdy and Benji all should go, give them jobs around the club if that is what they want, but get some new blood on the field.
We have a crap roster with limited spots, these 3 are just victims of circumstance, but fresh blood could prove invaluable

Not could but will prove valuable.

We need an injection to freshen the attitude more than the roster.

G'day @helmesy: your post that appeared re Madge being rolled from South Sydney in the Chris Lawrence thread, just appeared out of nowhere and disappeared just as quickly. Maybe I missed a post relating to Madge, but you have got me interested, please explain

@MAGPIES1963 It is my understanding that there is a family link between Chris and someone who was in the Souths club. This person was, I believe, instrumental in removing him from the job.

Thanks for your reply @helmesy: I feel very honoured to get a reply from such an esteemed person like yourself  .
But I'm still missing the point.
Are you suggesting there may be bad blood between Lawrence and Madge?
Please forgive me if I have jumped to the wrong conclusion

I’d also love to know the circumstances surrounding these comments !

@851 That is crap, I am not saying Farah , Rowdy and Benji are the the best players out there, however for what we have paid for them, they are value for money. The main reason we did not make the 8, is that a large chunk of our cap is not in FG. This money could of better used on players backing up Farah, Rowdy and Benji. These three players have been great this year, and have not let anyone down. As long as they are good enough to be selected in FG, they should be in FG.
