Lee & JP finally lose the confidence of the Board??

The problem we have is that it's two-bit hacks trying to show him the door and it's obvious he doesn't respect them. Maybe Dennis put it into a ballad?

Put some proper board members around Lee and I suspect you'll see his ego dimish.

The Board has been allowed to go with the flow for years with no accountability ..,

I suspect all the negative media is starting to unsettle the owners and perhaps they are noticing thousands of members cancelling their renewals since the season ended ..

Might have woken them up… hence the review as Step 1

I don’t know how he can survive if they really want him gone

NRL legend Ben Elias took the extraordinary step of personally fronting and apologising to Tim Sheens after claiming to be “embarrassed and disgusted” at how Wests Tigers sacked their coach.
It comes as Elias admitted to being interviewed for the Wests Tigers’ internal review, a report the former NSW and Australian hooker claimed could be the “turning point for our club.”

Elias attended a Kangaroos reunion inside the SCG Members Stand last Saturday week and wanted to say sorry after Sheens was dumped by the club in mid-August.

“We sat down and had a couple of beers together and I absolutely apologised for the way our club treated him,” said Elias, who played 234 games for Balmain. “I thought he was disrespected and deserved better.

“I walked straight up to him and said: ‘I’m sorry on behalf of the club, it was embarrassing’.

“The way they treated him, it was disgusting. They signed him saying: ‘Help us, help us’ so he puts his heart and soul into the club and then they sack him again.

“It was the board’s decision to punt him – that’s not my decision - but I was genuinely embarrassed at the way it happened and how he was treated – there are certain ways of doing things and in this case the execution was very poor.

“This bloke is a legend. This is the coach who has won four grand finals at two clubs, coached NSW and Australia. When it comes to the elite in terms of coaching, he is up there in the top three coaches.

“Tim is the Wests Tigers’ most successful coach, the only coach to have won us a grand final. They forget that. What a great man to have in your camp.

“I originally brought Tim to the club the first time back in 2003 and we won a premiership a couple of years later.”

Elias also spoke about his contribution to a review into the operations of the embattled club.

Former NRL chief financial officer Tony Crawford is among those conducting interviews for the review, due out in December.

Elias and Crawford were scheduled to talk over the phone for 30 minutes but the meeting extended to two-and-a-half hours with the ex-Tigers hooker claiming the club was at the rugby league “crossroads.”

While reluctant to reveal exactly what was said, Elias did concede: “Yes, Tony Crawford contacted me and I think it was the first major step in the right direction in regards to the club’s future.

“They were hard questions that people don’t like to ask but need to be asked and answered. It was enlightening and optimistic. Everyone has to be open and honest.

“The club is at the crossroads. This review is the turning point for our club, this is critical and I hope to God that the right people listen to this review and make the right decisions.

“I always worry about the future of our club. It’s such a great club but sometimes you need to take some smelling salts and admit your failings.

“We are such a popular club – imagine what it would do for the game if we were a top four club? There have to be changes. We spoke about everything from the ball boys through to the chairman.”
When asked about coach Benji Marshall, Elias said: “I have total faith in Benji Marshall. The bloke is a winner and he has the right ethics.”

Lee Hagipantelis’ position as club chair remains uncertain.
A reminder Lee went from calling Sheens the great man, to declaring his job safe, to giving him the arse in about 4 months. I’m sure the review will find Lee doesn’t have a bloody clue about the NRL.

I cant say with any degree of confidence that Lee is the problem in his own right, but he oversees the board and therefore is part of the problem in my view. Im hoping (there's that word) that the review is able to discover where the heart of the problems stem from and recommend changes. I'm content to wait till the results are in.

Geez, a lot of you are only scratching the surface here.

Lee has been chair since Nov 2019. About 4 years now. We've missed the eight for 12 years!

He's got his faults, BUT HE IS NOT THE ISSUE! He's just the most visible. Tony Andreacchio is really selling you guys a Raine & Horne lemon here. Here's where the rot lies...
  • Tony Andreacchio - Property Agent - Since 2012 (Chair of HBG)
  • Dennis Burgess - Musician - At least since 2014 (Director HBG)
  • Danny Stapleton - Painter - Since 2005. Can also say ex-player, but played for 2 years only.
  • Rick Wayde - Broadcaster - At least since 2016 (Director HBG)
These are the mainstays of our board who have overseen our demise. I also see Julie Romero's profile as not being able to add much. Mid-level manager in insurance.

We need to identify the real problem first. The above is the problem.

They may be good people, but I see 5 people who are Flegg-grade business people who have been the problem for far too long. If they truly cared about the club, they'd step aside and find some stronger business/footy people for their seats.

get rid of them all for all I care ……

We don’t see the other board members running their mouths in the media every week

Gee Stapleton had been around forever. Have Balmain got no one else to put forward?

Lee at least has the creds. The conditions of his directorship can be changed so he is quiet. I would remove the others first. The problem is, like any unsuccessful business or dictatorship, they have a power vacuum and no way to be accountable. They just kill off other folk.

I hope this CFO review guy works out a way to change that.

That along with back to back wooden spoons and eight wins in the last 50 games under his leadership gets him a ticket out of here …

Like I said .. Take the others with him… but spare me the deflection

Waydes been involved in sports administration for decades.

He essentially is the extension of the HB group on the WT board.

Have you seen the boards of other clubs.?

Not many high profile business people want to serve in an honoury position that have a passion for the club.

If things go well the coaches and players get the wrap.

If things go bad it could be the board.

Forgive me if I am wrong but does the Board not entrust it’s CEO to go out and execute its strategic planning/decisions. Our main issue is a failure to execute when it comes to nailing the most critical appointments in playing and other personnel. Who is accountable for the club being unable to retain a James Tedesco, Mitch Moses or an Ivan Cleary? Or lure a Wayne Bennett, Cam Munster or Latrell Mitchell to address the weaknesses in our organisation in a meaningful way. It seems to me the Board can recognise what is needed to fix the footy club but they haven’t got anyone there who can make it happen. Same goes for home ground strategy, does the Board not propose that Campbelltown and Leichhardt should be upgraded, and then put it in the CEO’s hands to make it happen. Conversely, I see a lot of praise directed at Pascoe for his efforts in getting the CoE up. Can anyone tell me who is ultimately responsible? They seem to just do a lot of blame shifting. I hope this review is looking at all that.

Justin has done some good on financial side but I think the club would be looking at a suitable CEO to replace him that is not connected to the WT in any way.

They'd probably pay overs for a top candidate amd probably should look even overseas.

But it would take time.

Are you agreeing that it’s ultimately Justin’s job to make the Boards decisions come to life?

Not deflection. Lee brings more to the table BOTH in terms of experience and financials than anyone else. Park the emotion. He is 1 vote against a bad board and we don't know if he's been fronting all the bad decisions from this mob.

All we know is that he says stupid stuff on camera that changes days later. Is that him or others? At least he's transparent. Not like the leaker that has been sabotaging us forever.

I'm not a fan either, but if he is made the scapegoat, we're going to stay exactly where we are.

The leaker may not be an insider.
