Leichhardt Oval Master Plan unveiled

Inner West Council & Mayor Darcy Byrne has officially opened the iconic Leichhardt Oval to public access as a residential park. Residents and fans are able to enjoy a picnic and some cold beverages on the Wayne Pearce Hill, Monday to Friday from sun-up to sundown.

In the same way that Henson Park in Marrickville is used by the community, residents are able to walk their dogs, catch up with friends or just a lazy day under the shade of the giant fig trees or soaking up the sun in front of the historic scoreboard.

To protect the surface of the most used sporting ground, residents will be asked to refrain from entering the playing area.

Leichhardt Oval has a special place in the hearts of local people and sports fans across Australia.

Arrgh.. I'm flying to Australia in a few days and I'm totally talking my German missus here for a picnic!!

I went yesterday. No other general public but me and the missus. You can't go on the field, just on the hill and the seats on that side. The only shade is down near the revamped Glenn Morrison memorial toilets, so it won't be a pleasant picnic spot on a day with decent sun.

Just on grounds, I have been in Sydney for 10 days but drove back to Melbourne yesterday.
Paid a sentimental visit to LO and then noted that distance from LO to CS about 50ks, whilst Liverpool about 30ks from LO and about 20ks from CS.
Imo Liverpool is still a viable option for a home ground, not sure why we've gotta go from one by extreme to the other. Gotta say if I was still living in inner Sydney I would still pass on that major journey to CS.

The thing is there's nothing at Liverpool for us.

At Cambo there's the ground already there and the junior academy planned... Liverpool makes.no.sense.unless.it was a brand new 40k stadium and it was to be our only ground... But that ain't happening

All.of.our infrastructure. Is a mess. Like a jigsaw with dozens of. Pieces missing

I am just saying that if there’s an opportunity to pursue development of a ground it makes more sense to me. And yes, I know common sense is thin on the ground these days ..,,

unless government funds the stadium at Liverpool and shared with Bulldogs and tigers?
That would be a terrible result for us and probably spell the beginning of the end for the club

I disagree but I guess unlikely to proceed although I did hear Lee saying that Justin was working on that very project when he got the flick.
Talking about demise, I feel the same about CS as our future, the numbers just don’t hold up imo.
But then again maybe our future is bleak and a move interstate may happen anyway,

Not when weve just had an $80000000 center of something built for us

That won’t count for diddly squat Ink if we keep performing like we’ve done for past 2 years !
More failure and the noise will become louder and louder for a relocation, we both know that.
And what happened to Mr Wiggle and his plan to resurrect Balmain out of LS, was that a pipe dream ?

Not even if the location made more sense ?
Location matters, but IMO the team needs identity.
Our Wests Tigers identity.
I recall going to Parra Stadium the first game we played there - as our home game too, I might add (albeit the match was against Parramatta).
Without doubt, the worst fan experience ever - no soul, no "ours", no connection.
Home must mean home, ours not anyone else's.

Anyone advocating for the return of the parent clubs is a dope.
Just asking if that idea had progressed ?
I’m good with the WT merger, I just want it to
last.

I accept your comments, but does that mean you are an advocate for CS exclusively, or maintain the joint ground scenario ?

Champion @Halbrowne61, that is a great question , and something that's been avoided since Day 1 of the JV from the club's perspective, keeping everyone sort of happy, or not.
As a fan, the home ground location to me is immaterial - I will follow etc but for the team identity, one home ground is a necessity, imo.
Now, whether that's CS or the joint ground scenario, I can't see the club honchos changing ground/allocations in the immediate future.

Fair enough, I’m still knackered from my 10+ hour drive from Sydney so we’ll leave it at that.
Happy New Year, thoroughly enjoy our interactions, plus you’re amazing input and look forward to more of the same in 24.
Happy New Year, I hope it’s a good one for you and yours.

No, we can't ever share a home ground again - Parra's Stadium proves that!
agree a shared stadium would be very bad, just think it has more legs than a redeveloped CSS, NRL state government federal government can get a new stadium built shared by 2 clubs at Liverpool. Gusnwould weave his magic and we would be in trouble as a club
