Leichhardt Oval Master Plan unveiled

But that's a reserve grade venue.

The thing Leichhardt has going for it, apart from NRL games, is it's also a prominent football and rugby venue in Sydney. Wallabies and Socceroos use it for training. Shute Shield finals are scheduled there. Sydney FC use it too.

It was great having both NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg playing there as curtain raisers to NRL in all 3 LO matches in 2023. I hope that continues in 2024.
Training ground use, shute shield, nsw cup and flegg don't need it upgraded though. Only we need it upgraded and I doubt we'll get $100m for 5 games a year.
Not with the SFS up the road.

These plans have been around for months. And they don't go anywhere near far enough, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. I don't knew how 100 million gets you the exact same floor plan that the stadium currently has, just a more modernised version and a tiny stand at one end.
The only option worth having is to knock down the existing stand and build a new one the wraps itself all the way around to the northern end. Then there's plenty of space for corporates, change rooms etc and a better chance of protection from the elements.
Like what Brookie has. If bloody Brookvale could get a decent upgrade, when they have very limited usage then one of, if not the, busiest stadiums in NSW should definitely be able to get the upgrade
Good post
100 million buys you bugger all when it comes to stadiums. LO is probably the most used suburban ground in greater Sydney. Hosting a wide range of sports. It should be bulldozed and replaced with a state of the art 25,000 seat venue.

Will never happen because governments will only throw money at votes in very marginal seats

I would prob rather a New 25000 seat stadium at Liverpool and play all our games there.

Would be better for the Wests Tigers as a club,

We have to look forward to potential new Fans who don't really care about the original Magpies and Tigers
Liverpool is a crossroads with Parra, Penrith and Bulldogs territory

Anyone who thinks we’d be the only team playing out of a stadium in Liverpool has rocks in their head.

Just had a look at Parras Junior league website they have quite a lot of new clubs pop up over the last decade or so... Covers a huge area too

I still don't see the problem with sharing a stadium. If you want a modern one you gonna have to share. If you want to be stuck in the 90s you go suburban and slowly die.
I don’t care either way. Just saying it’s naive to think. The Dogs would definitely play some games out of there, as would WSW.

Plans are pretty underwhelming but it amuses me that people think that a differently constituted council would be more likely to secure funding to upgrade LO. Where's the funding coming from? State Labor is embracing fiscal conservatism following years of profligacy from the coalition and the proud tradition of pork barreling at the federal level was sullied by Scomo's sports rorts scandal. Not even Mr Art of the Deal could secure funding in this environment.

In 88 Bulldogs planned to build a new stadium out on the site of the Whitlam Leisure Centre and that went know where fast about 2 or 3 years later it was mentioned again and know involving West and this failed to get past first base again. Campbelltown could do with a face lift as our area is about to get a very big influx of people moving to the area. But if you do not invest in the local area or grass root level there you are doomed to poor crowd numbers just ask Macarthur Bulls.

Inner West Council & Mayor Darcy Byrne has officially opened the iconic Leichhardt Oval to public access as a residential park. Residents and fans are able to enjoy a picnic and some cold beverages on the Wayne Pearce Hill, Monday to Friday from sun-up to sundown.

In the same way that Henson Park in Marrickville is used by the community, residents are able to walk their dogs, catch up with friends or just a lazy day under the shade of the giant fig trees or soaking up the sun in front of the historic scoreboard.

To protect the surface of the most used sporting ground, residents will be asked to refrain from entering the playing area.

Leichhardt Oval has a special place in the hearts of local people and sports fans across Australia.
